'It has become a nuisance'

Nakuul Mehta talks about playing Holi as a kid; and why he doesn't do it anymore

Nakuul Mehta of Pyaar Ka Dard Hai… fame recalls Holi celebrations as a child. This photograph (right) shows him as a twoyear-old with his elder sister and mother. Nakuul says, "It was the first Holi in which I actively participated. We were in Goa; my dad was in the navy and was posted there. My mom has told me over the years that I was amazed by different colours. Getting the colours off was a huge task and my mother and father both gave me a bath that day. My mother reminds me of that every time she sees the picture."

But though he loves the festival, Nakuul no longer play with colours. "Every year, I end up working. Besides, these days, it has become a nuisance. People go overboard wasting water; even the folks in my apartment call for a water tanker to have a rain dance. Kids throwing water balloons on passers-by is also not in the correct spirit."
