Chapter-10
Arnav stood in his cabin remembering everything that has happened before him going in the store room and everything else that followed.
The last two days that changed so many things flashing across his eyes. Their first real spat when she irked him testing his patience asking about his girlfriend. He had tried not to snap at her but she pushed him to limits, adding to his already pissed mood due to a deal going awry in between. As a result he ended up manhandling her, shouting at her. He had spent most of the night lying awake in his bed trying to find a way to right his wrong. His mind did provide him a naturally easy option but doing something easy and natural was beyond The Great Arnav Singh Raizada and his much bigger ego.
He had concluded that Khushi will come around in sometime after all it wasn't his fault alone. She had played an important role in instigating him asking him about his personal life. Nobody in his professional circles ever has dared to do that before her, a small voice chirped in his mind at the same time telling him that nobody apart from his Di has managed to make him smile too. Like the most of the time he ignored that little voice this time too.
Next day Khushi had behaved the way he wanted like a resourceful employee but his wish seemed to change suddenly. He wanted old Khushi back with her useless chatter and heart touching smiles and not the Khushiless Khushi which met him today. It seemed his wish was granted when he had found her smiling heartily but he became greedy as he wanted t be the reason behind her smile.
He had known the moment she was upset and he unthinkably had rushed to her side to soothe her. He had found her alone in the store room and finding her crying hadn't helped him. He had tried to calm her down but nothing seemed to work. Arnav had told her in few words that he was sorry and he had not meant any of his word from last night but she hadn't bothered to listen to him. Though kissing was not what he had in his mind but he had ended up doing that nonetheless. Arnav smiled as he remembered the kiss they had shared few hours back. Her soft luscious lips which were sweet like honey and intoxicating like drugs.
The moment they had broken the kiss he felt shocked. He had always been the one in control and being out of control even if it was for a moment had bothered him. He was angry at himself and did what best he could think at that time and that was to walk away. But as he had stepped out of the store room he had felt like an irresponsible fool. Her tears filled eyes had flashed in front of him rendering him incapable of taking a step further. After few minutes he had found himself in front of Khushi again who had not yet bothered to make a move. He had not known then and had no reason now why he had gone back to her. He knew he had to be there. He was anything but a jerk to kiss a girl and leave her without any explanation. Words had tumbled out of his mouth without him giving them a thought.
As now Arnav sat in his cabin he remembered his words clearly. He was surprised at himself.
"I am not sorry for kissing you. The truth is if given a chance I will repeat what I have just done"
Though he has not planned to kiss her or say the words that followed it, he found them true. He asked himself if he regretted what he has told her but no he didn't feel anything like that. In fact he felt elated and excited. The only thought that hampered his smile was Khushi's reaction. He had said what he wanted but he had not given her time to react. What if she thinks I crossed my limits and took advantage of her in state of vulnerability? I need to know her perspective as well.
Arnav noticed how this day was a day of so many firsts for him. For the first time in his life he had found himself apologizing to someone and that too twice in a day to the same girl, heck it was twice in less than half an hour. He had not even apologized but also had willingly kissed a girl. He had dated two three girls before but not a single girl had kept him interested for more than two weeks. Arnav had felt burdened by their constant need of assurances with his gestures. Though he had mostly returned their hugs and kisses but he never initiated it and with this thought came the knowledge that Khushi affects him more than anyone has ever managed to do.
Khushi stood stupefied at her place. A million thoughts were crossing her mind at a lightning speed. She could still feel his warm lips on her caressing her gently. Her legs begin to move recalling what all had happened few hours back. His words echoed in her brain.
Khushi was moving in a daze when felt someone tug at her wrist hard. She came out of her thoughts and found Lavanya waving her hand in front of her eyes to catch her attention.
"Where are you lost Chamkeeli? I was calling you for last two minutes and you didn't even stop" she whined.
"Sorry La I didn't hear you"
"You didn't hear me and I was invisible too, right" Lavanya raised her brows in suspicion looking at her friend's paled face.
She asked Khushi if she was unwell or if someone had said something to her to only get a reply in negative. Khushi lied that she was thinking about a design that has to be completed today. Though Lavanya knew something was amiss she didn't push the matter further. She took Khushi to canteen to lighten her mood where NK was already waiting for her.
"Khushiji aap itne dishhum kyun ho?" asked NK sipping on his coffee.
Khushi looked up at him hearing her name but didn't say anything as her mind was completely somewhere else.
"Its gumsum NK not dishhum" Lavanya corrected him.
NK smiled nodding as usual being corrected on his messed up Hindi and that too by Lavanya. He has known Lavanya for two years now and though for her he was always his best friend, NK has laid his eyes on her the moment he had met her for the first time. He had even once gathered courage to propose to her but got cold feet at the last moment when he had heard that Lavanya rejected a super model. If the hot super model was rejected he was way simpler for sure so he had decided it then that it was better to remain friends with Lavanya than making it awkward for both of them at the workplace. Khushi's words in the morning had given him some hope that may be he still has a chance. He looked at Khushi who was unblinkingly looking at something on the table once again in her own thoughts.
Lavanya and NK had tried to make small talks with Khushi but didn't succeed in their attempts as she just smiled in return assuring them that she is fine only to get lost in her own world after few minutes.
Khushi couldn't figure out how things had gone beyond her control in a matter of few minutes leaving her in a confused state. Nothing made sense to her; it was just his words that played again and again in her mind. Suddenly it all seized to the two words he had used before going. And now she knew what she has to do.
NK looked at her coffee that remained untouched yet. He was about to remind Khushi about the same when she stood up suddenly saying "I understand now" before leaving an amused NK & La behind.
"It looks like Chamkeeli was actually thinking about the design only" When NK stared confusingly at Lavanya. "That's how she reacts when she finds a solution to her creative mental block" she sad shrugging her shoulders.
Arnav still couldn't devise a way to know what Khushi must be thinking about him after that little incident. He was tapping his desk with a pen trying to find a way when the source of his thoughts barged in his cabin.
He stood up from his chair taking a step forward when Khushi raised his palm to stop him.
"Khushi look.."
"No you look and listen carefully. What do you mean by everything you said and did there? What do you think of yourself that you can do anything you want?" Khushi yelled at him. She couldn't stop herself when the two words kiss and repeat reverberated in her ears.
"Don't use that tone with me Khushi" he warned her clenching his jaws.
"What do you want me to do? To let you do whatever you want?" Khushi was beyond caring.
Arnav held her upper arms in a tight grip "I said don't talk to me like that"
"I won't. What will you do? Kiss me again like you said?" she fumed.
"Is it all about you and your convenience? My feelings don't matter for you at all?"
Arnav softened his grip on her arms as her words pierced through the haze of his anger. "It is not like that"
"If it's not like that then how could you kiss me and say that you'll repeat it. If it will happen again or not is not entirely your decision. I have an equal say in it" she gritted out.
Did she say I couldn't decide about it alone? But I never said anything like that. Arnav released a breath of relief knowing she was not thinking about him in a bad light but was just a little worked up due to sudden happenings. He smirked inwardly at her reaction.
Khushi saw Arnav raising his both hands in mock surrender.
"Ok. I get that. So from now on I won't kiss you unless you want it. But I am being a little generous with you so you can kiss me anytime you want" he smirked.
Khushi gaped at him open mouthed.
"I.. I did..didn't mean anything like that" she stuttered.
"What did you mean then Khushi" he said huskily.
"I don't want to k..kiss you and you too don't repeat it" she answered looking down at the flooring.
"But few hours back it seemed like something else"
Khushi blushed deep red thinking about the kiss they had shared. She knew he may have started it but she was an equal participant. She couldn't forget how she had pulled at him to lessen the distance between them feeling him close enough.
"I I.."
"I what Khushi?"
"I usually don't behave this way" Khushi said before she could think.
A/N: I don't know what just happened, sacchi mein.
