@ bold this i never saw comming ...which movies are the one's that you are talking about.I remember Psycho and Heaven on Earth (this one was full of metaphors & chilling settings) and there was an old one I cannot remember the name but it Meg Ryan as a rape victim being blamed for asking for it.Lol and you are the one who was able to shut me upI actually was skeptical about the kiss because I was pretty certain with RK a kiss would lead to where it actually did. With you as a writer I never felt something that violent would come into being. What happend to unicorns. JKING it was very well written and visualised too. Like where you compared the breaking of bangles in the course of love making to breaking of bangles by mourners. It was giving goose bumps.Thank you. Unicorns went grazing in greener pastures. they will be back by the time Sunday comes around.😆The state of mind Madhu was when in trans usually happens after a long history of abuse , so I belive because initially the hopes are pretty strong and there is denial. she usually talks less, to the point, and fights RK back from the word go so her getting into thiskind of a mind frame somehow was not something I expected. One question what part of the world are they living in?They live in India. I imagined a desert and thick accented hindi. The son living in the parents' basement, barely sees the day's light. That is all I said here and there. Her imagining the orange garden is a tested technique given her childhood and her relationship with her extended family. That did not work this time so the convoluted plan to kill. I don't if this is accurate but, this was pure imagination.I got jitters because it reminded me of a case law which I had read in depth and later saw a movie on it...tho the movie was nowhere close to the entire facts of the case I had read. Have you heard about Kiranjeet Ahluwalia...that was a landmark case in Britain as well as any country having common law system. It redifined sudden and grave provocation in cases of domestic abuse.I saw bits and pieces of unprovoked the tv movie but not the one with Aishwarya Rai. I shall read her book if I find it this summer. That was an incident that marks history books.
Filmy
"Hurry up we have to paint". His strut boiled her blood. She went out of sight before her nightmares shaped into reality. She needed escape; breathing another breeze in the same room as him would drive her insane, if she wasn't already. She put on the most revealing choli she owned, letting her bulges, wounds and hurt hang loose.
"Are you still in there?"
He had never followed her into the dressing room. The subtle tap of his shoes indicated a change.
"Do you need help with the makeup?" he asked with worried eyes. Perhaps, even regretful eyes?
"No", she tucked a ten rupee note under her cleavage in plain sight. "I am going out".
He couldn't believe his ears. "Say what?"
"My friend is going to pick me up in twenty minutes. We are going to see a movie".
He inspected her outfit from head to toe. There was no way in hell he would let her put his private fantasies on display in the community.
"Are you trying to shame me?" he pressed on her swollen wrists until she protested. Surprisingly, she didn't. She simply looked in his eyes searching for a reason: a reason why he chose her to realize his evil.
"Cover up. I don't want anyone looking at your curves but me".
"Two days ago, you were willing to trade my naked portrait for a month's living expenses. Now, where is this coming from, huh? My body is not an invitation for men to stuff in their organs when convenient. You should know that better than anyone else. I am not your property to claim".
"But you are. And I am telling you to wrap this shawl around and get out while I am playing nice. I can be bad. Haven't you noticed that already?"
He had a victory grin pasted on his face. She took off her choli in favour of a modest one, wrapped the fabric around like he asked and took her leave in silence.
"Better be home in three hours", he made to sure to insert added authority so she knew what she was coming home to.
Laxmi, a mansion maid and a well-wisher, greeted Madhu at the door.
"Kya bhaabhi, itna time? The shooting is for an RK film, we must not be late. I have heard if he gets angry, he does not let anyone see the shooting".
She smiled knowing that there was no amount of anger that could make her bow. After all, she lived through the fits of a devil every waking moment.
The women arrived on location to a serine landscape filled with sunny umbrella skies and an oasis in the middle of the desert. Synthetic caravans lined up offered competition to even the most authentic of local designs. The leading lady of the film stood close to the horizon wearing an outfit two sizes too small, makeup reflecting the sun rays in every direction.
"Thodi kamm chamak laga leti madam toh asmaan pairon ke neeche aur dharti sir ke upar nahi chali jaati", the hero made his entry on the back of a camel, stumbling yet confident.
"Sir, sorry sir. RK sir, I will ask the makeup dada to change it".
RK nodded his head, content with the effect he had on the crew. Now both the audience and the cast were aware of his aura. He could proceed peacefully.
Madhubala giggled at the absurdity of the situation. This man had trivial problems, the kind that made her forget about her real ones.
"What makes you laugh, young lady?"
When RK pinpointed the two girls from a crowd of a hundred, Madhubala realized how loud and peculiar her laugh was. He called her into his vanity van and she went in "for the experience", as she put it. "Not everyone gets to fight with a filmstar. I should have atleast one good story to tell God when I reach the hell gates. Maybe then he will consider my entry into heaven". She laughed off the fear that clouded Laxmi's head like she laughed off her scars.
"God damn, I have seen you before".
An excited RK instructed her to take a seat on the plush ottoman beside his chair.
"I am pretty certain you have not".
"I am confident otherwise. Anyway, take off that shawl, it is pretty hot in here as is".
Madhu was not sure what to make of his seemingly harmless remark. But, she was sure she could not let go of the fabric that hide her tragedy from the world.
"I am fine, thank you".
"If you are being modest, atleast take it off your arms", his hands reached for the pashmina. She closed her eyes trying to think of a way out of the fix.
What reason would she give him?
What if he told everyone?
What would Rishabh think?
Worse, what would Rishabh do?
What if he called the police?
Worse, what if he saved her?
Infinite what ifs clogged her instincts. Before she could process, RK had unwrapped the shawl from around her torso.
To be continued...
