Chapter 53

Geet ran out of the building towards the front gate but then decided to slow her pace down as she approached the exit. She didn't want to make him think she was rushing to see him.

Geet craned her neck around the gate. She spied him waiting for her, leaning casually on the hood of his car periodically looking at his watch. He was dressed in dark jeans, a white shirt and black jacket. "He looks like a model posing for a photo shoot, not my husb...no...Maan waiting for me" she thought. She decided to stare at him for a moment or two. She smiled watching him getting restless.

"Arre Geet baby, can I help you?" she heard a distant voice say. Then she felt herself being prodded in the shoulder "Geet baby" the voice said again.

Geet turned around and found the security guard staring at her with concern. "Geet baby, are you okay? I have been calling you for a few moments and you weren't answering. Can I help you?"

Geet became flustered and replied "Sorry, uncle. I...um...started thinking of something...ha...I have a new project...ha...and I was thinking of that...not to worry."

"Okay. I thought maybe you were waiting for your friend" he said after a pause.

Geet closed her eyes, thinking, "Does everyone know about the flowers?"

Before she could say something stupid, she heard him say "the one who stood you up yesterday"

Geet decided to ignore the question and looked down at her watch dramatically, then said "Oh Uncle. Look at the time. I must dash. Bye, see you tomorrow" as she rushed out the gate.

She took a sigh of relief which was short lived, when she saw Maan straighten up and smirk at her. "He saw me run out of Khurana Constructions, Babaji. Now he must think I am desperate to see him...why do my plans always fail, Babaji? Kis janam ka badla le rehe ho?" she mumbled looking up at the sky.

Maan who had observed her running out of KC, now saw her looking skyward. "She must be complaining to her Babaji...about me, most probably" he thought smiling.

Geet hesitantly approached Maan. "He looks even better, close up" she thought. Now she could see the jacket and jeans were well tailored and fit him in all the right places and his shirt was open at the collar giving her an enticing view of his neck and upper chest. "Oh Babaji, I know I was complaining earlier on...but please help me...control Geet, control!" she thought.

Maan walked towards her, and gave her a hug "You made me wait, Mrs Khurana. I was about to send a search party to look for you" he said huskily into her ear. His voice and hot breath in her ear sent shivers down her spine and she shuddered in his arms and closed her eyes. He smirked noticing his effect on her, and decided to push his luck, by nuzzling behind her ear and planting a kiss on her cheek. She turned her head to look straight into his eyes. They were dark and hungry. She gulped. Their faces were only centimetres apart...he leaned towards her and she leaned towards him, as if pulled by a magnet. Their lips were almost touching. She could feel his breath on her lips. She leaned further towards him, closing her eyes and just when they were about to kiss, Maan pulled away smiling. Geet stayed in position for a few seconds "Why have we not kissed? And where have his arms gone?" she wondered. She half opened her eyes to see where Maan was. He was leaning back against the car, smirking at her. Geet straightened up quickly, gave him her best angry stare and turned her back on him, crossing her hands over her chest. "What is he trying to do, Babaji? Drive you mad, Geet, that is what...well, I am not going to talk to him..not now...not ever"

Maan looked at her stiff back and thought, "Maybe I pushed her a bit too far this time...but it was fun...oh well, time to pacify your sherni again"

He got off his car and walked towards Geet, hugging her from behind and resting his chin on her shoulder. She tried to push him away, but his grip was too strong

"Angry with me, Mrs Khurana?" he asked gently

Geet just snorted in reply.

"I just didn't want you to take advantage of me Geet" Maan said trying not to laugh.

Geet turned around in his arms and screamed "WHAT?"

"Well, you were trying to kiss me...and you know Geet, this is our first date...and we are all alone...with no chaperone... and we haven't even had dinner yet...what sort of a man do you think I am?" Maan said seriously. Then looking at Geet's shocked expression, he burst out laughing.

Geet watched Maan laughing. He looked so relaxed and happy. She knew he was making fun of her, but it didn't seem to bother her. She had seen him laugh like this before in HP...before she made the decision to leave him.

Before Geet could get annoyed again, Maan said "Sorry Geet. I was only teasing. Please let me make it up to you over dinner...and anyway, you can't refuse...if you do, I will just turn up at your office tomorrow" he said winking at her and leading her to the passenger seat of the car. Geet just opened her mouth to say something, but couldn't find a suitable retort, so decided to close her mouth and remain silent.

As Maan drove towards the dinner venue, he asked Geet about her day at work.

Initially she cribbed about the intense teasing she got about the flowers giving him a warning never to do that again. Then she started telling him about the exciting new project she would be creating designs for.

"It seems like you really want to win this opportunity Geet" Maan said once she finished.

"Yes, of course. Who would miss the chance to work with MK? He is the best in his field. I bet even you must have heard of him" Geet replied.
