Chapter 30 – Aapne yaad dilaya

Clad in a pristine white suit with golden border, Geet stood in front of the launch venue of Chopra community project. She had done all the preparations with help of Vidyut and under guidance of Maan sir and was very excited to see everyone admiring her efforts.

Mr. Chopra stepped towards the lamp to light it and start the actual ceremony along with Maan, Vidyut, Romeo and Geet. His wife stood along with him when Geet noticed that Mr. Chopra's mother was standing a little behind. As Mr. Chopra moved ahead, Geet just thought it was appropriate that being elder most, she should be lightning the diya and hence stopped Mr. Chopra – "Sir, madam is standing behind. She is eldest so she should be here na."

Geet almost felt Mr. Chopra's stiff posture when his mother herself commented – "Yeh kaisi baatein kar rahi ho tum beta. Can't you make out I am a widow then how can I be part of such an auspicious moment and bring bad omen. Mujhe aana hi nahi chaiye tha."

(What are you saying girl. Can't you make out I am a widow then how can I be part of such an auspicious moment and bring bad omen. I should not have come only.)

Geet was shocked and cowered under the angry look Mr. Chopra gave her - "If you have insulted my mother enough, should we proceed?"

Maan tried to manage the situation - "I am sorry but I am sure it was genuine mistake on her part Mr. Chopra. Let's just proceed." But he stopped midway as he saw Geet moving behind and standing away from the hawan stage.

"Geet?"

She looked misty eyed at Maan sir whereas everyone waited for her response.

Sasha could not let pass the opportunity "Oh come on Geet, everyone is waiting. Now stop the drama and what is done is done. Just move."

Maan again called out her name when few tears slipped from the corner of her eyes and she almost whispered out "I am sorry sir but I didn't realize that I should not be here either. I am….I am also a widow."

There was an audible gasp of surprise from many people as no one knew about it. Maan stood shocked and finally had to blink eyes furiously to control expressing his bleeding heart in form of tears. He realized how everyone was looking at Geet either with disgust or sympathy and he hated everyone's eyes on his Mishty like that.

"Mr. Chopra can you please light the lamp and start with the launch party". With heavy heart and a stern voice he brought back every one's attention to the event. Finally lamp was lit and hawan started.

Maan was completely lost in her thoughts as he stared in the holy fire of the hawan

"Widow….she is a widow. She is a teenager…barely nineteen. When did she get married and for how long? God Maan how does it matter and look at her, she is so broken. Was she happy in marriage or there also fate cheated her? Whenever I think I am close to understanding her pain, a new layer of anguish comes in front of my eyes. What has she gone through and why? Why Geet ke Babaji you have written so much pain in her destiny?"

Geet sat a little away and later tried to busy herself in making sure that everything ran smoothly in the party.

Maan though forced to entertain the client, business associates and prospective customers, kept a hawk eye on her seeing her move from one place to another and trying to hide her hurt and pain behind mask of work.

Even though Geet was managing herself but Maan felt suffocated in the party. He was breaking inside as he burned in new pain. On one side the thought of her being unhappy and other side an aguish that she was someone else's even for a brief time plagued his thoughts. It was not that he felt bad at her being married before….no that would be hypocrisy and Maan's feelings ran much deeper than that but the thought of life cheating her of every happiness and dream she must have seen as a girl scorched him.

"Uska har khwaab adhura reh gaya aur mein kuch bhi nahi kar paya"

(Her every dream remained unfulfilled and I could not do anything.)

He walked outside on a pretext of a phone call as he felt burdened and lost. So many emotions ran through him. Thoughts of her being another man's wife and thought of her being so alone now ate at him. He didn't know why but his hands automatically dialed her number.

"Hello…Maan?"

She called out his name couple of times and was shocked to hear his grief struck voice –

"Daadima"

"Kya baat hai Maan….app thik toh hain?"

(What's the matter Maan….you ok?)

"Daadima….aisa kyon hota hai daadima. Jab bhi mujhe lagta hai ki mein apni manzil ke kareeb hoon…uske paas na sahi par uski khushiyon ke kareeb hoon….koi naya gam gher leta hai use. I can't bear this pain anymore Daadima. I am so scared. I don't know what I should do anymore…Daadima."

(Daadima….why does it happen daadima. Whenever I feel I am close to my goal…if not near her, I am close to her happiness…a new pain surrounds her? I can't bear this pain anymore Daadima. I am so scared. I don't know what I should do anymore…Daadima.)

Savitri Devi could not make out much from his words but she knew that her grandson was breaking down and was in lot of pain. Tears came in her eyes as she heard his painful words. She had been feeling changes in him since few days and was almost convinced that her grandson was finally getting close to someone. But today his heart wrenching question just led her to make a quick prayer to her God to keep his happiness before she decided to calm him

"Maan…beta shaant ho jaiye.

It is said that the more priceless something is, more a person has to struggle to achieve it. Jin khushiyon ki aapko itni chinta hai, shayad woh bahut anmol hai beta. Lekin khud pe aur bhagwaan pe bharosa rakhiye. Hum jaante hai ki shayad abhi aap bahut takleef mein hain…..lekin humein aap pe pura bharosa hai. My son is a fighter and he will never give up how so ever hard the circumstances may be. We are proud of you son and part of it is because you never leave trying.

Jab hum ne himmat tod di thi tab aap humara sahara bane the Maan. Then how can you talk like this today. Aap toh humari himmmat hain beta.

Jayiye aur lad lijiye is duniya se un khushiyon ke liye jo aap unhein dena chate hain. Woh kaun hain hum nahi jaante lekin aur kuch na sahi toh is baat ka dilasa hi dejiye ki aap unke saath hain. Jab sacha hum rahi saath hota hai toh raah kitni bhi kathin kyon na ho, uspe chalne ka haunsla ho hi jaata hai. Baatein karte karte, ek dusre ka dukh baant te baant te, khusi khushi rasta kat jaata hai. Rah pe phool hi kyon na ho, without a partner even that journey is boring and meaning less.

Shayad is waqt aapko unki aur unhein aapki zaroorat hai Maan. Ek dusre ka sahara ban jaaiye. Phir kab tak yeh khushiyaan aap dono se dur bhagenegi Maan. Unki muskurshat ki chah ko apna hathiyar bana lijiye aur haunsle se aage badhiye Maan. I am sure that day is not far when her smiling face will be in front of you. Humein puri umeed hain beta….bas aap himmat mat hariye."

But have faith in God and in yourself. I know that maybe you are in a lot of pain right now….but we have full trust on you. When we had left courage you had become my support Maan. Then how can you talk like this today. You are my strength son.

Go and fight with this world for that happiness which you want to give her. I don't know who she is but if nothing else give her an assurance that you are with her. When a true partner is their then it does not matter how difficult the road is, one automatically gets the courage to walk on it. In talking, sharing each other's pain, happily, the journey gets finished. Even if the path is covered by flowers, without a partner even that journey is boring and meaning less.

Right now, maybe you need her and she needs you Maan. Be each other's support. Then till when this happiness will run away Maan. Make the desire to see her smiling as your weapon and move ahead with guts. I am sure that day is not far when her smiling face will be in front of you. We have fill hope son…but you don't loose heart.)

Daadima's words acted like a balm to his burning heart. Maan felt light after talking to her and as sanity returned, he judged that she will be now worrying about him also.

"Daadima…I am ok now. Thanks. And please don't worry much about what I said. I am fine now. I just got….I mean…I just got a little emotional about something."

"It's ok beta. Hum chinta nahi karenge and that is because we trust you son. Haan, lekin request zaroor karenge. Zayda waqt mat lagayiga unse humein milane mein. I also want to meet that special person who has finally returned expression of emotions to my son."

("It's ok son. We will not worry and that is because we trust you son. Yes, but will definitely make a request. Don't take too much time in making us meet with her. I also want to meet that special person who has finally returned expression of emotions to my son.)

"Daadima…aap bhi na. You only think one thing…aisa kuch nahi hai humare beech."

"Arrey hum kahan kuch keh rahe hain Maan…hum toh bas milna chahte the. But all the best…jayiye mana lijiye unhein jaldi se aur apne dil ki baat bhi keh dijiye."

(Come on, when did we say anything Maan…we just wanted to meet her. But all the best…go and make her happy and tell your heart's desire also to her.)

"Daadima!!!! Stop teasing me and there is nothing. Sab kuch bas aapke dimag mein hai"

Maan kept down the phone but one thing was clear to him. Yes he was worried but he was worried because of her pain. To him it did not matter what her past was but yes it affected him because he wanted her to move on and be truly happy. He wanted her to achieve all her dreams and even if not with him, live a love filled and happy life. He will continue to be there for her always to make sure he was there as her silent partner…her support and her humrahi as Daadima had put. So what if she was married once. Today she is alone and he knew that his feelings only deepened with every moment as it passed by.

Maan went back to the party and just stayed near her making sure she was holding up and also to draw strength from her efforts to soothe his own heart. He understood at least this much from Daadima's words that they both needed each other and she needed him more. It was not time to think about himself but focus on her.

Geet on the other hand felt as if someone had just opened her wounds and thrown her into a pool of agony. Though she focused on her work but her heart was aching as her past was once again haunting her.

that was one new revelation...she being a widow, her pain and agony has been captured well...and the main highlight of this update was maan , who felt anguished when he came to know about her being a widow, and the pain and sorrow he felt over she being cheated of her happiness at such a young age...its was a heartwrenching sight
