Chapter 32
Present day -- Nearly ten months after the bomb blast (Leap)
How did I agree to this? What am I doing here? This should not be happening.
Yash thought to himself as he sat at the mandap in a daze. He could not believe he was actually going through with the marriage ceremony. His whole body was burning and revolting against such a sin. Yet he forced himself to listen to the Pandit and follow the rites as best as he could.
He had to do this. He had no choice. He kept reminding himself.
SM was decorated as the bride herself. From flowers to lights no stone was left un-turned in an effort to make the day special. The grandeur was seen to be believed. There was hustle and bustle of guests who kept pouring in.
Gayatri, Vidhi and Pari were standing near the mandap all not sure about how to react right then. On one hand they were glad that the marriage was taking place but on the other they knew how wrong this was, but then all three of them were helpless to do anything about it.
I am the luckiest woman alive. I am going to get married to the handsome man who is sitting in the mandap out there. My years of loneliness end today. Finally finally I will get someone who is going to love me and cherish me forever.
Ishita thought as she sat in the room of the house which was soon going to be her new home. She was floating on cloud nine since the marriage proposal came her way and got confirmed. She had given up hope of ever finding true love in her life. Her handicap had put off so many prospective grooms. Her father's wealth and power too could not find a match for her. But since this alliance got fixed she had started building castles in the clouds. She could so imagine her life stretch out in front of her.
Yash ' even his name sends jolts of pleasure through me. I am thrilled to have you in my life Yash. I will make sure you would love having me in yours life too. Oh! I am so excited. Come on when will they be calling me to the mandap. Hurry already.
This was going to be the beginning of her happily ever after dream. This was everything she had hoped and prayed for. Her wishes and dreams were finally going to be realized.
"Please call the bride to the mandap" Panditji requested.
Ishita's mother brought a beautiful looking shy and excited bride to the mandap, the bride's limp only slightly visible.
Ishita kept looking at her husband as she sat next to him. Yes she had already given him that place in her mind and her heart. Nothing and no one could possibly change that fact for her now.
She could not help herself from staring at the profile of her husband. He looked so masculine and handsome. The nose, the prominent jawline, the lips that looked soo...umm...
Stop it Ishita. You can't be that desperate. Control yourself. You are going to have the rest of your life with him.
OH MY GOD! REST OF MY LIFE as HIS WIFE. Mrs Ishita Scindia. Mrs. Yash Scindia. Soon Ishita very very soon.
"Would the bride and groom stand up for the saath-pehrahas please" the pandit urged after sometime.
Yash and Ishita stood up. The knot between them was tied. Ishita started to move around the pious fire that was the witness to their union.
Yash was going through the motions. He wished that somehow this marriage could be stopped. He hoped against hope that he need not go through with it even at this stage. He believed still believed in his heart that his Aarti was alive. How could he then commit this crime when he knew his wife was alive? Every step was killing him as if he was walking on hot coals. He could never live with himself if he went through with this. He would hate himself for the rest of his life for this...but he kept walking.
Just then ad mist all the sounds of the crowd and of the music sehnayee Yash heard a faint sound. A sound that was so familiar...a sound that he had not heard for so long that he had almost given up hope of ever hearing it again...a voice he had yearned to hear and a voice that had haunted his dreams and every living waking hour since he had last heard it.
He could have missed it after all it was a very faint sound but he did not. He craned his head towards the source of the sound. Just then the sea of crowd parted and he could see the main door and a figure of a woman standing there came into view which made him halt midway.
"Aarti...It can't be" he said in shock to himself.
Ishita was dragged back to a stop and she turned to see that Yash was no longer taking the walk around the fire. In fact his attention was now diverted and he was looking at the main door without blinking.
She traced his line of sight and reached a woman who stood at the door. Just then the guests blocked the view of the door and when they moved again the figure had vanished.
Ishita stared at Yash in confusion. Why did he stop? What was he looking for? Who was that lady at the door and why did Yash look at her with such shock.
Before she could even begin to make a guess at answering all the questions buzzing in her head, Yash took off the turban he was wearing threw it away and made a dash towards the door; Leaving Ishita, her parents, his family all the guests in shock.
"Yash"
"Yash" his family members cried after him but in vain as Yash did not heed to their plea and chased after something known only to him.
"What the hell is happening here?" Ishita's father asked embarrassment and indignation due it getting the better of him.
----------------
"Aarti. AARTI where are you?" Yash shouted when he saw that Aarti had disappeared from the door.
He stepped out in the porch and stopped. He saw the woman turn around as if someone had called her. She saw someone and smiled. As if saw the face she had wanted to see. A face that was familiar to her had come in her view.
She is alive I knew it. I always did. My prayers have been answered. Oh God Oh God she is alive. How How do I thank you. Yash was so overcome by emotions that tears started to run down his cheeks unnoticed. He wanted to go to her but was afraid that even this time she would disappear on him. So he held out his arms, hoping that she would make the move, hoping that she would come to him and prove once and for all that she was alive.
Aarti's relief knew no bounds she kept walking first taking slow steps and then increased her speed. Finally she saw the face she was had been searching for so long. She had to go to him had to find the comfort she was looking for since she stepped into this place.
Yash was holding his breath to have her in his arms. She was now just within reach. He started to close in his arms to hold her more securely in his embrace but to his utter amazement Aarti crossed him and kept running. Yash could not believe it. He immediately turned to see where Aarti was going and his heart broke into a million pieces when he saw Aarti in the arms of another man.
Yash fisted his hands. Rage like he had never known before settled like a dark cloud on him but he could not move, could not do anything but stare at the couple before him with undiluted fury.
Aarti finally loosed her grip on the man in her embrace. She did not know why she had hugged him. She just knew that she had to. But now it did not seem like a good idea anymore. So she put some distance between them and started to apologize.
"Aakash...I am sorry. I should not have..." she started and stopped not knowing what to tell him.
TO BE CONTINUED...
