Hi anyone who has read the book, can you tell me if Kumud's characteristics are the same as in the book ? She comes across as a egoistic person and sometimes childish enough to hurt him because she was hurt by his rejection, but sometimes they show her as a person who would go beyond and help others. So is her character in the book the same way ? Pls don't think I want to compare the story just curious to know whether Kumud was really portrayed this way in the novel as well.

Keep watching the show for better understanding of the characters.. Writers have the liberty to elaborate on characters for pages gallore but when the same thing is shown onscreen, then it becomes tough..coz you have limitations with scenes that can completely define a character.. So you have to keep watching..instead of reading stuff written on wikipedia..Actually thats very misleading..Its impossible to summarise a novel as huge as SC in one page.. I havent read the book...I know the summary.. I am watching the show solely from the directors point of view.. and I know everything they are showing is for a reason...all this will lay foundation for the future story..So be patient and keep watching.. 😊

I've started to read the novel and as far as I know, she does not have this pride & arrogance to her at all. She's very intelligent but at the same time meek too. The show's Kumud has the classic SLB streak and I really wish people would understand how much her character is actually igniting the love story. Till now Saras has been rather soft and introverted but Kumud with her attitude brings life in to those scenes. Whether you agree with it or not is a different matter but this very ego has given us the scenes which everyone is going cuckoo over.

Thanks Vaishali and Reemz, I agree with both of you that as they go forward we understand the characters more thoroughly. I was on,y curious to know whether the real Kumud was like this as a girl of that century wouldn't be able to survive with such an ego. Vaishali, I agree that synopsis just gives us the content of the story so I am not worried about the story as such. I have prepared myself for even a tragic story :) Reemz, thx for telling me about her characterisation in the novel. I was thinking when SLB said he has taken SC from the novel, the basic characteristics of the character would remain the same. It is a surprise to know that it is SLB's touch as usual and not the original character. Though I am bit confused by her egoistic behaviour I actually don't mind it as I understand it is needed to ignite the story. Like ASR someone is needed everywhere :)
