She ruled Bollywood in 2012, and stars in this year's most awaited release,
Dhoom 3, opposite Aamir Khan. But right now Katrina Kaif has a new role- fashion muse on the cover of Harper's Bazaar India's fourth anniversary edition.
Taking her cue from the issue's theme 'Why Don't You...?', Katrina takes on the season's graphic trend- stripes, checks and black and white.
It's a huge departure for a star who readily admits in the accompanying interview that when it comes to personal style, she doesn't do what's in vogue. "What matters to me is what works for me. I know my body structure. I know exactly what suits my body type. Some days I may dress in shorts and a studded T- shirt. On others, I may opt for a cute dress or a diamond-studded corset. But I won't go with the latest trends simply because they are in," she says.
The famously private actor, who even in the midst of controversy has never explained herself, says with her reasons are simple: "I've always maintained that those aspects of our lives which are personal, and unrelated to our careers, shouldn't be discussed at work." Accuse her of political correctness and she says: "When people refer to me as politically correct, they tend to use the term particularly with respect to my relationships. On that front, I believe that these questions are steered in two basic directions- towards people who are unimportant and do not warrant comment; or towards those who are very important, and therefore deserve respect and dignity without any such public comments."
She opens up about work though, telling Harpers Bazaar of her struggle in the industry. "There were three-and-a-half years where I worked every single day, sometimes for 16 hours straight. I took taxis and visited advertising agencies to personally hand over my portfolio. I regularly auditioned at studios where I held up a banner with my phone number scrawled on it. Soon, I started getting work, one thing led to another, and I made a natural progression into films."
Hits followed hits culminating last year in an opportunity to work with Yash Chopra in Jab Tak Hai Jaan and the second highest grossing movie of all time-
Ek Tha Tiger. This year besides
Dhoom 3, Katrina reunites with Hrithik Roshan. She had first appeared with him on the cover of another Bazaar anniversary issue.
"I am very excited about the Hindi remake of
Knight and Day, where I am working with Hrithik Roshan. It's nice to be working with him again after
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara ."
