Actor-director JD Majethia had to change the script to please the public
Is it true that you have changed the script of 'Baa, Bahoo Aur Baby' as the serial was in the doldrums, not too long back?
Yes, some time back, when we were showing the family members warring with each other, the audience reacted unfavourably and we changed our script accordingly. The response that we are getting now is due to the track where Harshad's (JD) son Soumil (Kartik Gantha) is being shown terminally ill, is something that has zapped us all.
We knew that, it being an emotional storyline, the audience would be moved but did not expect such strong reactions.
What kind of reaction are you getting?
A neurosurgeon called saying that she had researched about the illness and it is treated in Germany and I could incorporate it in the show.
Trust me, it's extremely difficult to create something that will shake people out of their reverie and take notice when there are so many programmes being churned out. It's a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence for any maker.
But does so much public support take away your freedom of thought?
No. Since we are here to make programmes for people to watch, we have to keep them happy. Having said that, I think that audience reactions should not be misconceived as a pressure; they are rightfully voicing their opinions.
It's upto you to accept them and if you are rejecting them, then give the audiences a plausible reason for your decision.
Is 'Sarabhai V/s Sarabhai's' coming back on air after the much-hyped 'swayamvar' fell apart?
As of now, "Sarabhai..' (Star One) is on hold and it may take even six months more. We have scripted the future story and will be introducing newer characters too. It's just a matter getting bulk dates from the cast.
So, was it the lukewarm reaction to the chat-show 'Kudkudiyan House No.43' that made you wind it up midway?
The audience did not find the show interesting. When we pour the efforts equivalent to those required for making three episodes of a daily into one episode of a chat-show and then it does not run, it's best to wind it up.
There's a buzz about a new show from your stable. Tell us about it?
It's a family entertainer again but one that will appeal to the youth. It's mainly a story that has strong women at the crux and deals with today's youngsters.
