"What happened? Here", he wiped her bloody nose clean.

"He hit me. That bas***d", she snatched the pack of Kleenex away from Rishabh.

"Who?" Adrenaline charged through his veins ready to fight the man that hurt his lady.7

"Long story". She signalled Rishabh to turn on the ignition. "I took care of it".

Rishabh reluctantly pulled out of the parking lot. "Like you do everything else. What is going on Madhu?"

"Long trip, we will talk on the way", she pulled out a makeup bag from the backseat to hide the bruises.

"Start talking", he pressed down on the gas pedal.

"This man was a lunatic. He was in girls' washroom and so".

Rishabh offered a turn of the head and nod that suggested non-belief.

"He was doing some sort of drug and I asked him to leave. He attacked", she piled on the concealer until its green pigment had hidden from view the nasty scar under her nose.

"So why didn't you let me handle it?"

Rishabh asked a fair question but, Madhubala raised her defences. Something was amiss and everyone breathing that air could sense the negativity.

"Because I handled him myself. I hit back and I came out".

"You are lying. There is no way he could have let you touch him".

"You think I am not tough?" Madhu popped a collar trying her damnedest to whither the argument.

"I think you are trying to direct attention to the lesser issue", he caught her.

"We just met. I told you more than I should have. Do not expect me to spill all the secrets. If you want to live together, learn to stay within the boundaries".

"I am a decent man but, if you push me hard sweetie, I will not toe the line, I will erase it!"

She did not answer, simply listened. RK enjoyed this rare occasion with the want to demystify Madhubala still alive. "Who are you?" He tested his luck yet again hoping to get an answer.

"An open book, I'll say. I will tell you everything in due time. Right now all you need to know is I beat a druggie in a gas station bathroom stall".

"I know", he gave Madhubala a long stare down.

"Eyes on the road", Madhu began tossing and turning the playboy magazine pages trying to avoid his gaze.

"I know druggies don't do it in a women's bathroom. I know because my first love", RK spoke out of experience, "was crystallized".

The mention was enough for Madhu to realize she was not dealing with pure ivory milk. RK had been a meth addict himself.

"Two rehab breakouts and five hospital visits later, I am finally clean. Five years now. So, I know he was not a druggie. I am here to listen when you are ready to tell me. Until then, stay out of trouble".

He took his hands of the steering wheel and stole a peck from an unsuspecting Madhubala.

She blinked for several seconds before screaming on top of her lungs, "The truck, you idiot!".
