More days went by n Geet started remaining more aloof, she hesitated in talking to Jia even scared of Maan's wrath. The only time she came into contact with anything related to him was when she came in front of Jia and the other time was when she went into his room to keep his things back. The shirt n files meant to fool Meera but she should have known better. Still she wished things had not gone the way they did.
She sometimes cooked but only when she was 110% sure Maan wouldn't be back otherwise she preferred staying in her room, staring out of the window into oblivion for hours. However, since the cake incident Rohan started paying more attention to her. He came at nights to talk to her or in the mornings whenever he was able to take out some time. At least for half an hour he stayed with her every day, she didn't responded much but he was enough to talk on both of their behalves.
The thing was he was curious with being concerned. Geet was peculiar n Maan, he thought, was blinded. His hurt n hate misted the reasoning. He saw what Maan didn't and was almost sure by now that Geet wasn't what he had assumed her for years. Even with the way she interacted with Jia or with him. She didn't want anything, he could tell.
He knew after the cake thing Geet avoided the little girl. She never tried to show herself as Jia's rightful mother pretending to be her mother for some veiled motive; she always behaved with her like friend n she accepted her even after knowing she wasn't her. Even she if didn't love Maan n wasn't covetous that he married some other girl, it was still hard to accept a child that was given birth by someone else but she did, never showed any grudge against Jia. Jia just brought that rare smile on Geet's face which Rohan believed was very beautiful.
Apart from Jia, Geet also never tried to sweet talk him, behaved reserved. He talked, she heard, he flirted, she avoided' but she had become a bit free with him lately though still zoomed out in her own world when he talked endlessly. But she never manipulated him, never tried to be the khurana bahu either. Didn't bossed over the servant n mostly stayed in her room which was not so luxurious considering it was used to be Maan's study earlier. Dadimaa didn't know and Geet requested him to keep it that way.
It was all like she was there n wasn't also almost like she wanted everyone to think she was invisible n didn't exist. What possibly would she be trying to accomplish from all this, nothing that he could think of. He wished
Maan could see what did or Geet would do some efforts but both were burning in their own hell content with the pain that followed.
Saturday Morning,
Dadimaa still wasn't back n everyone was probably asleep. Maan wasn't, he was wide awake not a blink of sleep graced him. He shouldn't have started sleeping with her. He again cursed his heart. It would have been so nice that man was just blessed with a mind why heart had to be given to make life miserable.
Thanks to it he couldn't sleep now n was no less than a zombie but with feeling. Wasn't there a potion to get you rid of the feelings specially the useless ones that you are sure would never be reciprocated because you are not worthy enough. He scoffed, he was never worthy of her n would never be.
He was incredulous that she didn't leave; Meera was all fire n burns ready to take Geet off with her. Or maybe it was just show off to only accuse him, to prove what a demon he was. He smiled sadly, every night he ached to go to her, to sleep with her, fill her into his arms. It felt so right, the peace he searched for was with her but he knew she didn't want him. What a mockery of himself he had made. The Maan Singh Khurana, rejected, a fool n failure in love n life.
A knock relieved him of the tear-jerking thoughts.
Nakul seemed distressed when Maan opened the door for him. Sir wo police aayi hai.
Maan came downstairs while Geet, Rohan came behind him, Annie was not at home.
With the police n some private security stood Jia's maternal grandfather.
What do you want? Maan asked his face hateful; he knew his father in law was there for a reason.
Mr. Saurabh has court orders that Jia, his granddaughter would be staying with him at the weekends. The inspector informed n forwarded a paper but Maan snatched it tearing into two pieces.
I won't listen to this rubbish. Jia is my daughter n SHE WOULD STAY WITH ME.
That was just a copy tearing it won't change anything and she isn't your daughter Maan. Saurabh retorted n Geet was confused why he would say like that may be to get the custody. She didn't know him earlier but by the conversation she understood that he was Shreya's dad.
Shreya was my wife, wasn't she? How can you say Jia isn't mine? Maan countered n Saurabh was tongue-tied.
Rohan was observing everything minutely. He wasn't aware why Shreya's father said about Maan not being Jia's father. It was not the first time he was saying this. After Shreya n Maan's marriage both the men were never in good terms n after Shreya's death it just got ugly. Saurabh must be saying all this to get custody of Jia which he was trying since long but it was insane. Rohan n everyone knew that Jia was Shreya n Maan's daughter. They were both married for more than a year when Jia was born.
Although, he couldn't deny what he saw in Saurabh's eyes when Maan asked him how Jia can't be his. Just for second there was look of horror in his eyes n helplessness on face, like he knew something but couldn't tell.
You killed my daughter Maan. Saurabh said with venom coating his words. I won't let you do the same to her daughter.
She is my daughter too. Maan spat n the inspector intervened.
Mr. Khurana, Mr. Saurabh has legal permission to take his granddaughter for weekends. You need a stay order to stop him.
The court is closed on weekends. Maan stated utterly angry n frustrated. In no way he was letting his daughter go.
That's your problem to solve. Now call her.
Not in this life.
Mr. Khurana, don't make this difficult for us. The inspector said n Maan glared at him.
You know who I am?
Yes I know but everyone is same in law's eyes and for now you would have to let Jia go with him.
Rohan kept a hand on Maan's shoulder to calm him. Jia had to go for now, they couldn't stop it. Nakul, Jia ko lao. Rohan told.
Nai.
Maan for now she would have to go.
How could he? She was small n rarely lived a whole a day without him. She wouldn't be able to do it. And moreover with that man, what if he corrupted her mind n she started hating him. What if he didn't take care of her? She was extremely fragile n needed sincere care and couldn't stay without him as much as he couldn't without her. No he wouldn't let that happen. It was just a matter of two days. Just two days away from her but for Maan it was no less than sentence to death.
Nakul brought Jia down, she smiled rubbing her eyes looking at Maan but as soon her eyes landed on her Nanu, her face became pale.
Daddy. She called but instead Nakul gave her to Saurabh. She started crying immediately. Even her small brain instantly knew that she was being separated from her father.
Maan's anger was increasing. Jia. He went to take her but Rohan stopped him. He pushed him away. His princess was crying. Oh god they were taking her away.
Mujhe Daddy ke paas jana hai. Jia was screaming, kicking in Saurabh's arms n Maan just wanted to snatch her from him, shield her somewhere nobody could take her away. But as he tried to do so the police men held him. He was furious n Jia was a mess, hiccupping n turning red, frantically trying to get free n run to Maan.
Geet's heart was torn as she saw both of them struggling. She wanted to do so much but couldn't. Tears ran down her cheeks as she saw Jia being taken away n Maan practically breaking apart. She had never seen him so helpless n shattered, he was crying. Not bothered that there were people around.
I am taking her for two days for now but the time is not far when she would be with me forever. Saurabh stated n Maan growled like a wounded lion.
Rohan held his cousin as he saw his daughter being carried away. Her cries faded, inaudible after some time but they echoed in his ears, taunting at him. He should have done more? How could he let her go? Maan fell on his knees feeling a sense of dj vu. It had all happened before. Geet left him n now Jia.
