Chapter 2
Sitting, now, alone in her room, Zoya thought back on all the little moments she'd shared with her dear grandmother. Nani had been her only real parentā¦had loved her, scolded her, got into mischief with her and now she was gone. In retrospect, the last week had been the worst of her life. But well, life had to go on.
She was flying back to New York tonight. Her grandmother had been buried and she had no business being in this house more than necessary. She needed to get out of this toxic environment and back to her sane life in New York. Sighing heavily, she dragged her little suitcase out of her room and down the stairs. If she could help it, this would be the last time she set foot in this house which now after Nani's death, was no longer home.

"Hey" she whispered softly. It had been a week since she had walked out on him but losing her grandmother had taught her that you didn't lose relationships over anger and pride. So, she had decided to swallow hers and speak to him.
Asad, looked up, surprised. After what had happened and her lack of response to his calls, he definitely hadn't expected her to acknowledge him. "Hey yourself."
They stared at each other in awkward silence. A lot had happened between them and now they were unsure how to take it forward.
"I called you that day Zoe."
"I know, butā¦but I couldn'tā¦" Zoya took a steadying breath. "My grandmother passed away, Asad, I flew back to Mumbai. I only just got back yesterday."
"Ohā¦I thoughtā¦"
The shrill ringing of a mobile phone halted the conversation. Zoya frowned as she registered the number calling her.
"Hello, this is Zoya Farooqui."
The conversation that followed drained the color out of her. She whipped around to stare at Asad, who was staring at the ground refusing to meet her eyes.
"You went back to the investors behind my back? You cut the company out from under me? How could you?"
"I tried calling you Zoya, but you were M.I.A so I scheduled it since you couldn't be bothered to check your phone!" snapped Asad.
"My GRANDMOTHER passed away Asad. Forgive me if my first instinct was not to check messages from the insufferable jerk that slept with me and then took great pleasure in insulting me. Or did you forget what you said⦠did you?"
"I left you a message on your phone."
"But for some reason it didn't cross your mind to leave me an email?"
Asad was now starting to get annoyed. How was he supposed to know what was going on in that brain of hers. He hadn't known that her grandmother had passed away and he had left a message. Granted he could have left her an email as well but he had assumed she wasn't interested anymore and he had gone ahead and attended the meeting with investors. They had been impressed with his product and had granted him the seed capital for the start-up.
"Look Zoya, I just didn't think you were interested. But I can see that you are upset. Why don't you accept a 10% stake in the company? That's more than fair, don't you think?"
"10% stake? You are offering me a 10% stake?! How generous of you, Asad. How kind of you to offer me a stake in my own company. I helped market itā¦without me you would have had nothing but a product ā¦no plan, no model, no investors and definitely, no company and you think a 10% stake is more than fair! Wow, I always knew you were arrogant but I guess I always thought you knew where to draw the line. I definitely didn't take you for an ungrateful cheat!"
"C'mon Zoya ā stop the name-calling! It's so typical of you ā to fire up! You weren't there at the final meeting. We've made some changes to the plan and model. It's going to be⦠Listen, let's talk about itā¦"
"Shut the hell up. You have done what you wanted to do. I would love to sue youā¦and I would win too, if I did, but I can't afford a lawyer. But know this Mr. Asad Ahmed Khan, I will destroy you. Just remember that."
With that, Zoya turned on her heel and walked away. She had held her composure in front of him but on her solitary walk home she let the tears fall. She had lost so much this week - her grandmother, her friend, her company. She had never felt more alone in her life. Sniffing loudly she climbed the stairs to her apartment two at a time. She desperately wanted to curl into bed and never wake up.

Three months later
Boston, Massachusetts. It was a quaint little city and she absolutely loved it. Life was definitely looking up. After graduating out of Stern she had been accepted into Crysal Technologies, a leading tech company and she had been lucky enough to be hired by them. The icing on the cake was the fact that they were trying to buy out BigCat Solutions, Asad's company. She was going to help them do it.
Zoya hadn't been surprised to see the solution she had marketed do so well. It was a fantastic platform and she had known instinctively that it would be great. But he had decided to cut her out and she⦠well she had decided to destroy him. And she was going to. His company would be part of Crysal's!

"Are you sure, Zoe?" She was writhing in pure, mindless pleasure. Her hands gripping his shoulders, her legs wrapped around his lean waist as she urged him to take her. "Please! Nowā¦" she begged and he looked at her. She lifted her hips, and he had driven hard into her. She'd gasped at the feeling of completeness⦠she'd never felt like this ever. "God, you feel so good." The tempo was increasing, like she wanted. Her climax just within reachā¦Godā¦Asā¦.
"ASAD!" Zoya woke up. The sheets were soaked with her sweat. Ever since she had found out she was pregnant, her dreams of that night were becoming more and more frequent. Was it guilt that was causing them? Maybe she should tell him; after all he was the father.
Zoya grabbed her cell phone, determined to call him.
"Zoya, I pity the man who'll have to deal with you for the rest of his life!...10% stakeā¦more than fair, don't you think?"
No! She wasn't going to call him. That thankless jerk! She would not expose her baby to a man like that. He was arrogant, manipulative and coldāhearted. He hadn't even bothered to call her after that ā not even once! He didn't care. And her baby could do without that. She knew firsthand how that felt to grow up feeling resented or unwanted and her precious one sure as hell was not going to even feel an ounce of that. He didn't need to knowā¦wouldn't want to know. She was doing the right thing. Her baby had nothing to do with Asad and she was going to make sure of it!
