Chapter-7

Arnav entered Shantivan quite late in the night passing instructions to Aman on phone. He stopped as he saw Anjali lounging on the sofa reading a magazine.

"Di why are you up so late? I told you not to wait for me" he said after cutting his call.

Anjali smiled closing the magazine and waved her hands asking Arnav to join her. As he sat down next to her Anjali caressed his forehead rubbing frown lines away. "You look so tired Chhotey. I know you're busy but you need some rest too. Have you seen the time?" she asked indicating at his watch.

"That is exactly my line Di. Why have you not retired to your room?"

"I was not feeling sleepy. Moreover I am habitual of waiting. Your Jeejaji keeps working till late too."

"Oh! So you sitting here is just out of habit and here I thought you were waiting for me" He smirked.

"Chhotey tum bhi na.." she said playfully smacking his arm. "How are all the preparations going for the show?"

"It's going fine Di. It is just a week away and after that you will find me at home in time"

"Yes on time, you sitting at poolside with your laptop spending your night talking with Aman. At times I wonder if this is work or you guys have something going on" she grinned as Arnav rolled his eyes in response.

Arnav Singh Raizada was a man who people in general were wary of. He instilled fear in his competitors and employees alike with his ruthlessness and arrogance but his Di mattered to him the most. She was a person who could get away with anything, any prank – for he loved his sister dearly and she was precious to him. Though Arnav was younger to her but he was a possessive brother. He still remembered in detail how angry he got learning Anjali was in love with someone. The thought of her dating a faceless guy had irked him. But she has convinced him to meet her then boyfriend Shyam once. Shyam was a lawyer by profession having a decent earning. Arnav was initially apprehensive of their relation but had to give in with Anjali's persuasion. They had got married two years ago. Shyam was a simple man with a smiling face and a good sense of humor. He and Arnav were quite opposite of each other. Shyam was open and friendly in contrast with the quiet and reserved Arnav. Arnav was vigilant and careful around him for a year as he couldn't place his trust in someone so easily especially when that someone is near to his Di. But he has came to the conclusion that Shyam was indeed a good man and accepted him whole heartedly as he understood that Shyam was always able to make Anjali smile just like she deserved and what he has always aimed and wished in his life for Di. There was nothing more important for him than Anjali and it was a bond he held close to him.

Anjali has come here a week back but he was unable to give time to her owing to the upcoming fashion show. He has been buried deep in his work not even having time to breathe properly. He was guilty for being so occupied and decided he needs to spend maximum time with her once this show wraps up successfully, which he was quite sure.

After having a peaceful dinner he headed to the poolside adjacent to his room taking laptop along with him to check mails. He was working when Anjali came there to check on him. She sighed seeing his workaholic brother.

"Chhotey you need a wife to stop you working excessively"

"Not again Di. By the way I don't need a wife I need Jeejaji here so that you can stop bugging me or is this the reason he has send you on a holiday here?" he smirked.

Anjali looked at him feigning anger "First you don't have time for me and now you make fun of me. I am going to sleep now; I just came here to check on you. Good night".

Arnav chuckled at his sister's antics as she walked away.

Finally it was the day of the final show. The venue was in a hustle bustle with guests varying from heads of various fashion houses, designers to celebrities.

Khushi was in the green room making sure of all the arrangements checking if the models were ready and needed any help.

As the show ended there was a huge round of applause. Everyone at backstage cheered as the show ended successfully. Khushi happily hugged Lavanya as others too broke out in smiles and laughter.

Arnav reached backstage after making a quick appearance on stage at the end of the show. He saw Lavanya and Khushi chatting away happily with Jeff.

"Lavanya lets go, time for media Q&As, Jeff bring in your team too. They have done a marvelous job." Jeff smiled motioning Khushi and others to follow.

After the success of the show Arnav has announced another fashion line in front of media. Now they were busy enjoying the after party. Khushi was sipping on her drink as she felt hairs on her nape straighten and she turned on her heels suddenly to bump in to the hard chest cladded in a black tuxedo. A warm pair of hands held her on upper arms to steady her. She looked up instantly regretting her decision as she saw those deep caramel orbs ready to absorb her. She felt strange sensations in the pit of her stomach. Khushi felt a sudden loss as he removed his hands taking a step back to create some distance between them. Her haze cleared as she heard him "Tum theek ho". She nodded feeling awkward not able to speak anything.

He cleared his throat saying "You have done a fabulous job. I must say I am quite impressed with your work. What are you going to do now that the show is over?"

"A new job search may be, haven't thought about it yet." She said trying to smile a little thinking how fast time has fled.

"We have few job openings in AR. You can start from tomorrow if you want to work with us."

"Join without interview?" she exclaimed.

"I have seen your work Ms. Gupta. As I told you before you have talent and hard working and these are the qualities I look for in my employees. So care to join us?"

"Sure, thanks" she smiled.

He nodded starting to turn when he turned back at her and said "But there is a little problem, I think it's better to tell you beforehand"

She scrunched her eyebrows in confusion at his sudden statement. She thought what it could be – is this also a temporary job for a limited tenure or has it something to do with the responsibilities or salary accompanying it. He watched her in hidden delight as she stood confused right in front of him contemplating his next words.

She had made various assumptions in her mind but nothing was close to what came next.

"You know working in AR won't be easy especially for you. You have worked with Mr. Mittal and Jeff before; both of them are easy going. But I have heard ASR is quite arrogant and ruthless with a short temper" he said seriously.

Khushi stood there embarrassed as she remembered these were the words she has told him weeks back.

He saw her colorful face paled with his words. "Just thought to warn you Ms. Gupta" She looked up at his sudden teasing tone only to find him smirking at her. A faint red color made its way starting from her neck to nose and cheeks. Arnav turned on his heels, a little smile playing on his lips watching her flushed face.

Khushi stood there thinking how wrong she had been contemplating if Arnav still held anything against her due to what happened on her first day at office. She had apologized to him but had her fare amount of doubts regarding acceptance from his side. He has not said anything in response or truth be told she has not waited for him to reply and has run from the cabin after telling her side of story. She smiled a little more as she remembered his words from few moments back.

So the Laad Governor can crack jokes too.

Wait, what? He and Laad Governor? She thought amused at herself.

A/N: As I told in the beginning of the update, not much of ArHi here. I had written about the relationship of Khushi and Payal in earlier updates but not much about Anjali and Arnav. So I felt it was necessary to let you know about that too. Also Anjali in my story doesn't limp.

ASR wanting Khushi to be a part of AR wow, I can smell more heated encounters between the two.

He really complimented her unlike the ASR in the show 😆
