Part 47 a
"Bolo Arohi… kya hua?"
Arjun cupped her face in his palms and looked at her tenderly. He felt a pang in his heart seeing her helpless expressions and teary eyes. Just when he had thought that there were no reasons left for them to be sad over, his wife was crying bitterly as if her heart was broken…
Arohi looked into his loving eyes and broke down all the more. She crashed into Arjuns chest and buried her face in it. Arjun rose on his knees to gather her and stroked her hair lovingly. He placed his cheek against her hair, waiting patiently for her sobs to die down.
After 5 odd minutes, Arohis body stopped jerking eventually as her cries sobered down to soft whimpers. Arjun did not loosen his grip on her for even a second and continued to try and calm her down by his actions. Arohi unhooked her nails from Arjuns shirt and pulled back to look in to his eyes. A small frown marked his forehead and his eyes were searching hers for the reason of her breakdown. Arohis heart welled up more, seeing her monster trying to take care of her, and pacify her by just being there.
Her gaze fell down to her hands which were twisting in her lap, trying to figure out a way to break the news to him. So much for planning to hide it from him! He didn't have to even try to persuade her as she had ended up a bawling mess in his arms.
"Arohi…"
Arjuns soft voice made Arohi look up. Arjun got up and pulled a chair from behind. Seating in front of his wife, he held her hands and looked her in the eye.
"Ab batao mujhe… kya hua???"
Arjuns patient prodding and his loving eyes gave Arohi confidence.
"Arjun… voh mein… aaj mujhe time tha issliye… issliye mein yaha aane se pehle doctor ke paas gayi thi."
Arohi felt rather than saw Arjun stiffen as soon as she mentioned doctor. "Nai… don't worry… mein thik hu… mujhe kuch nahi hua hai!"
Arohi expected Arjun to relax the moment he heard that she was fine but got confused when he failed to do so. His loving gaze had turned in to an anxious one. "DJ ne bhi kaha tha check up karlena. Lekin tum bohat busy they issliye I did not want to pressurise you. I thought I will go alone for the check up and you can come next month. But…" Arohis eyes welled up again and she bit her lip to try and stop herself from crying.
Arjuns eyes became sad and helpless as he saw Arohi trying to struggle with herself. He grabbed her hands tighter and pulled them to his lips, placing a soft kiss on her knuckles.
"I'm not pregnant Arjun… Mein pregnant nahi hoon!!!" Arohi burst out and the tears started flowing freely again.
Arjun closed his eyes and sighed deeply. His thumbs were caressing her wrists as his eyes dropped down to look at them.
"Lekin aisa kaise ho sakta hai!!! Voh… voh jo doctor uss din ghar pe aaya tha ussne toh kaha tha ki…"
Arohi watched as Arjun left her hands, got up from the chair and went towards the window. Arohi stared at Arjuns back helplessly.
"I'm sorry Arjun… Mein jaanti hu ki it must be a shock to you as much as it was to me! Lekin trust me uss doctor ne sach mein kaha tha ki mein… mein… "
Arjuns shoulders slumped and his head bowed listening to his wife apologise for his 'grief'. He turned around slowly to face her. The guilt and worry written on his face stopped Arohi from continuing. Her eyes searched his for the clarification that he was trying to give but she had not asked for.
As realisation dawned on her, her eyes widened and she stepped back. Arjun took a step towards her but stopped as he noticed the hostile expressions on her face.
"You knew already… didn't you???" Arjun flinched at her accusing whisper. She took another step back.
"Arohi… please let me explain…" Arjun tried to speak as calmly as possible, totally in contrast to his panicking heart.
"So you knew and you didn't tell me??? Or did you… Oh my god!!! Did you plan this whole thing???"
Arohis voice rose with every question that was forming in her brain. She took a few more steps back, trying to get as far away from him as possible. Her body slammed against the far wall as she backed up against it. Tears fell down her wide eyes, which looking at her husband with disbelief.
"Arohi… Arohi please ek baar meri baat toh sunlo…"

"Are you positive about this?" Rajveer stared at the officer standing in front of him.
"Yes sir! I have been working on this case for quite sometime now. And I maynot be able to tell you with 100% surety but with the right kind of evidence, I can prove it."
"OK then… I guess I just have to take your word for it. But I want all the evidences. Mein aisa koi loophole open nahi rakhna chahta jisse voh bachke nikal jaaye. Got it?"
"Roger sir! Just give me a few more days and I will have the entire report submitted to you."
The officer saluted to Rajveer and dismissed himself. Rajveer picked up the report again and scanned its contents to ensure that he has not missed anything. After confirming the details once more, he threw the report on the table and leaned back in his chair.
"Venetia Adams… who would've thought! Well… you've messed with the wrong people this time!!!"
A look of satisfaction settled on the ACP's face. After months of struggle, they had finally had their first breakthrough. And he was not going to let the heat settle down now. One week… two weeks tops! He is going to crackdown on the culprits and close the case.
All these weeks after his father was shot have been a struggle… for the entire family. Slowly but surely, things had started working out… DJ and the family had gathered themselves, the Ahluwalia women were an amazingly strong lot! Lovedeep had found a direction in life, Arohi was safe and happy… and him… he had finally fallen in love. Something that not just he, but his entire family thought was next to impossible. And that too, to another amazingly strong woman… not to mention from the rival family!!! But It was the person that mattered, and this particular person mattered a lot to him.
Grinning widely, Rajveer glanced at his watch, and dialled "R" on his speed dial.

Arjun ate his toast quietly. He glanced up to see his family eat their breakfast, completely ignorant of the silent storm brewing at this very breakfast table. Dadi was busy buttering her roti, Rashi looked very interested in the fruit platter that she was eating and Romit was swaying his head to the music blasting in his ears through his headphones. Arohi was sitting across to him and had all eyes for the food on her plate. He stared at her like a love sick puppy, hoping that she would spare one glance in his direction. But Arohi refused to oblige.
FLASHBACK
"Arohi… Arohi please ek baar meri baat toh sunlo…"
CRASH!!!
Arjun ducked in time as the glass vase came flying across the room and hit the wall next to the window behind him. Arjun looked at the shattered pieces, to the wall behind and to his wife. Her eyes had gone from shocked and teary to blazing and fiery. She grabbed another china-clay show piece off the side table and hurled it at him. Arjun dodged it again by moving to the side.
"Arohi… please relax! Meri baat toh suno Arohi…" Arjun tried to plead and beg but Arohi was beyond all this.
"RELAX??!! YOU WANT ME TO RELAX!!! I wanted this child Arjun… I was looking forward to being a mother!" Arohi screamed her guts out and Arjuns face whitened. Never in his dreams had he expected Arohi to react this… this… violently!
"Tumne itna sab kuch plan kiya aur mujhe bataya tak nahi??!! Ek baar bhi mujhme confide karna jaruri nahi samjha??? Tumhe kya laga… mujhe kabhi pata nahi chalega??? Meri peeth peeche jaake tumne…" Arohi gritted her teeth and looked around for something to throw at her incorrigible husband.
Arjun quickly went around the table and took steps towards her, hoping to reach before she grabbed something which might just be the reason for his death.
Arohi grabbed the letter opened like a knife and held it in front of her. "Durr raho mujhse… paas mat aana! Mein tumhari shakal bhi nahi dekhna chahti…"
Arjun stopped a few feet short of her. Putting up his hands in surrender, he tried cajoling his wife again. "Arohi please relax. I know you're upset… lekin ek baar meri baat toh sunlo. Maine bohat baar koshish ki tumhe batane ki, lekin… himmat nahi juta paaya. Please Arohi…" Arohi stared at Arjun, her breathing rapid with all the screaming.
Arjun took slow steps towards her gauging her reaction at every step. "Maine jo bhi kiya sirf isliye kiya so that I get a reason to get you home. Tumhari tarah mein bhi tumse durr nahi reh paa raha tha Arohi. Isliye tab mujhe jo sahi laga maine voh kiya… I know I should have told you later on… after coming home atleast… but… I did not know how to break it to you…"
Arjun reached Arohi and very slowly he raised his hand and pulled the letter opener out of her hands. Arohi did not resist, instead stood frozen, staring at him. Disbelief, diappointment, anger and a lot more extreme emotions rushed through her body at the same time and she suddenly felt tired.
Arjun could see her body slump in defeat. Her eyes became sad again and she had a lost look on her face. Arjun held her shoulders and guided her to the bed. Seating her on it, he sat next to her and took her hand in his. "Please believe me Arohi… I never meant to hurt you or lie to you. All I wanted was for us to be together. I know I made a mistake and I should've told you but… believe me i…"
Arohi continued staring ahead in space as if she had not heard a word of what Arjun had said. Arjun cupped her cheek in his palm and turned his face to him. "Arohi… please… kuch toh bolo… mujhe gaali dene ka mann karraha hai toh gaali do… but chupp mat raho please!"
After what seemed like an eternity, Arohis voice came in a small whisper, but it crashed like shattered glass in Arjuns heart.
"Mujhe kuch der ke liye akela chod do Arjun…"
FLASHBACK ENDS
Arjun looked at Arohi again but she was concentrating on stirring her coffee now. Rashi and Dadi had noticed her unusual quiet self and were questioning each other with their eyes, asking if either of them knew about it. Before turning their attention back to Arohi, they looked at Arjun with accusing eyes. It was a given that if the wife is upset, then 99.99% the reason is… the husband!
"Arohi puttar… ki hoya puttar? Aaj badi chup chaap si hai tu… haaain???" Dadi asked her in the most soft voice that she could manage. But Arohi just looked up, gave a small smile, said "Kuch nai dadi" and drowned back in stirring her coffee. Dadi turned glaring eyes at Arjun and raised her eyebrows before frowning them. Arjun smiled a fake smile and hid his face behind a newspaper.
"Rashi Di…" Arjun felt relieved as he heard Romit discard his headphones and change the topic. "Aapki meeting kaise thi… mein kal poochna bhul gaya aur parso aapko aane mein kaafi late hogaya. Im sure the client must have loved your designs hai na?"
Rashi sighed as she looked at her youngest brother. "No Romit. That meeting was a hoax. Voh sab Jignesh ne kiya tha… to try and talk to me."
Almost everyone at the table gasped as Rashi revealed the truth. Even Arohi forgot her pain for a moment and stared shocked at her sister-in law cum friend.
"How dare he!" Arjun instantly threw the newspaper away. "Usski itni himmat??!! Mein chodunga nahi usse. Mein…"
"Relax Arjun. Maine usse apni language mein samjha diya hai. Aur firbhi if he doesn't listen then I can fight my own battles. Just knowing that you're there to support me is more than enough." Rashi smiled at Arjun and reassured him.
"Kaisa aadmi hai… chhiii… itni beizzati hone ke baad bhi mooh utha ke chala aaya! Puttar… tujhe kya kaha ussne? Mere saamne aajaye toh do thappad maar du mein usse…" Romit got scared at seeing his angry dadi. Probably he should not have opened the topic. He silently prayed that dadi doesn't punish him for doing so.
"Its ok dadi. Mera usse koi lena dena nahi hai abhi. Jo insaan apne khoon ke rishte ki ehmiyat nahi jaanta voh mujhe kya izzat dega. He thinks hes a man and so he can do whatever he wants and get away with it. Well hes wrong! Aur ye ehsaas usse mein dilaaungi…"
"You're right Rashi!" Everyone turned in surprise to hear Arohi talk so strongly for the first time since morning. "Men think they can do whatever they want and get away with it. Take decisions for other people and expect them to follow them…" Arohi finished her sentence looking at Arjun. All eyes turned to Arjun and he gulped. "But I am sure that you will make him realise that he is wrong. I am always with you. Just let me know if you need a friend to talk." Arohi looked at Rashi and gave her a small smile. Rashi kept her hand on Arohis and smiled back.
