Why do they say sautela to asad and ayaan

This bugs me alot why do they say like that u would be step brothers if there is no blood relation but in asad and ayaan's case they share the same blood with their father so they will be half brothes but not step brothers i find it very weird in so many serials this is the case they refer to half brothers or sisters as step brother or sister

Because there is no word in hindi/ urdu that translates to half brother/ sister and sautela is the only word that works both ways..
