***part 7***
"Manvi, you know I hate these steamed stuff- greens, carrots, peas. Eww..I am not a cow." He made a funny face, as Manvi was serving them into his plate, ignoring his whining.
"I made some paratas and curry too.." she smiled and sat down beside him, her elbow on the table and her head in her palm. She raised her eyebrows and pointed him to eat.
"Jeeez..paratas? no butter, no oil, I am sure." He continued his whining.
"Virat, this is healthy. Please finish it fast and I have a surprise for you in desert."
He chuckled. "I would like to have you for desert and I am very hungry." He winked and reached for her hand. She gently hit his hand away and rolled her eyes at him, signaling him to finish eating. Virat looked at her frustrated and finally gave up and gobbled up the whole thing in a hurry as she kept laughing at him seeing his kiddish expressions.
After finishing his plate, he pulled her chair in front of his and looked at her with dark eyes, moving towards her lips. "Now my desert" he whispered.
"Gajar ka halwa" she blushed and gave him a small bowl in his hand. "...your favorite." She smiled and walked away into the kitchen to clean up.
He followed her to the kitchen and hugged her from behind as she was loading the dish washer. "Manvi, why do you do all this, why can't you get some help. I have such little time to spend with you and you are more worried about washing dishes in that time." More whining.
She turned around and looked at him guiltily "I was just...chodo. I am all yours. But, I don't like having anyone else do our work. I am more comfortable like this. I will do this later. Bolo..how was your day?"
"Very boring until now. How about we make it interesting??" He asked pulling her so close to him that their noses were touching each other. His hands firmly clasped around her waist holding her tightly in that position.
She looked at the ground and her face turned red understanding his intentions "ok, what do you have in mind?" she asked coyly. His gaze was scotching hot, burning through her skin. She closed her eyes and waited there, frozen, for his touch, on her lips.
Looking at her, he smiled with mischievous eyes, he decided to tease her. "Want to watch the game with me??" he asked with a chuckle. He let go off her and grabbed a soda from the fridge? He carefully watched her from the corner of his eyes.
She opened her eyes and felt her hands and chin still frozen in the same position that he held her a minute ago. She unfroze and gulped, flustered she looked around and then at him overcome with a red flush. He was leaning on the fridge door and was watching her with raised eyebrows. "Yes, lets watch the game." She said embarrassed walking towards the living room past Virat looking down. Virat shook her head and grabbed her hand; he started laughing loudly "Baby, you are so nave. What am I going to do with you? You don't even understand when your husband is teasing you."
"You were teasing me?"
"Yes, I was." He said still smiling. He pulled her back into his arms and this time pinned her against the wall, crushing her into it with his body. He did not even wait a second before drowning her in his kisses, on her neck and throat and moving up to her lips..."
"Virat, VIRAT!..." He heard a voice, breaking his passionate reverie. He opened his eyes and looked at Manvi standing beside the bed. He grinned widely, giving her a big smile. Manvi narrowed her eyebrows scrutinizing his expressions, having no idea whatsoever about what he was dreaming about. "There is someone at the door for you." She said bringing him back to the present.
"Ofcourse. How long have I been asleep?" He yawned, rubbed his eyes open and sat up.
"Very long. Are you alright?"
"Yes."
"Jetlag. Haven't slept in a while. I will be out in a minute."
"I made some dinner for the kids, you can join if you want." She said closing the door behind her. She had let him sleep in the guestroom as he had refused to stay outside without the kids.
~~~
He splashed some cold water on his face and wiped his face looking into the mirror. He liked what he saw. Virat Vadhera, a father. He had the two most adorable kids in the whole world. He smiled and walked out to the dining room. He saw Ria and Nikki, with bibs nicely seated on opposite chairs. Manvi was serving them boiled greens, carrots and peas. Virat shook his head, smiled widely and sat in the chair in between Ria and Nikki "Hello munchkins" he ruffled their hair and looked at Manvi adoringly.
Manvi eyed him cautiously "Who was that at the door?" she asked.
"Movers" he replied. "..to help you pack."
Manvi looked at him angrily "Let's talk about that later." She said.
"That's mama's chair." Nikki pointed out, looking at Virat angrily.
"That's ok Nikki. Eat your food." Manvi shushed him and passed Virat the veggies which he looked at with repulsion. "No thank you, I don't eat that." He said. Phew! Atleast I don't have to eat all this freak health food now.
"Ria, bunny, look at how daddy will eat all his veggies. Yummy! Right Virat?" she asked him with faked excitement.
"Yummy!" Virat scoffed at her and smiled at Ria, putting a spoonful in his mouth. This isn't how I expected for it to go at all.
Manvi left the table with a dare-you-pull-that-stunt-again look to Virat.
Very angry and helpless, he looked at his plate and then at Nikki who was dutifully eating his food and then at Ria who was making all kinds of funny faces looking at her plate. He smiled instantaneously forgetting all his anger.
Manvi came back with juice for everyone and warned Ria "You plate better be empty when I am back." And she went back in fussing over something else.
Ria tried eating one pea with great effort and made a very disgusting face, almost like she would choke on it.
"psssh...princess, give me your plate" Virat whispered to Ria. He quickly put all the unwanted stuff in his plate and put a clean swept plate in front of her and served her some macaroni which she gladly began eating giving her dad a big wide smile. Virat, very proud at his maneuverings, closed his eyes and started gobbling up the content of his plate, reminding him of his bitter-sweet memories.
Manvi came back and looked at Ria surprised. "Good job bunny. That is the first time you ever finished your food. You know what? you can have a cookie after your done." She gave her a kiss and sat down to eat, satisfied. Virat smiled inwardly but put a straight face on the outside.
"Mommy.." Nikki started. "Daddy took away all her veggies and gave her macaroni." He showed his hand towards Virat and complained, all of a sudden. Virat's jaw dropped, Ria opened her mouth into an 'O' shape and they looked at each other. "No he did not." Retorted Ria.
"He did" Nikki countered.
"Did he now?" Manvi hissed from in between her teeth, glaring angrily at Virat. "Virat, can I talk to you inside?" she stood up and walked inside the bedroom, scoffing at him, but, not before she put more veggies on Ria's plate. "EAT THEM!" she ordered.
Virat and Ria looked at Nikki who continued finishing his food as if nothing happened.
"Chamcha kahika" Virat muttered, and flicked his head lightly. Nikki started yelling "Mommmy" even when all Virat did was lightly tap his hair. Virat shut his mouth with his hand and walked inside to deal with Manvi before something else happened. Yeh toh bohot dangerous hai yaar, I can only guess ki kis pe gaya hoga!!! Hmphhh!!
~~~
Manvi: "Virat, I already told you that I don't need your help. Why did you call the movers? And you are undercutting my authority. They are kids, they need discipline. When I say something, they need to obey me. You cannot do anything to make them think they have other options."
Virat: "Yaar, chill, authority? Obey? you are mom, hitler thodi ho? What's the big deal. She did eat something else."
Manvi: "That's not the point. It's a matter of principal. Virat, your are more than welcome to be with them whenever you want, you are more than welcome to set your own set of rules and even tell me if you don't like things that I do for them. It is open for discussion, but you cannot undermine me before them."
Virat: "FINE"
Manvi: "...and I don't need your help with my packing. Is that clear?"
Virat: "No. It is not clear. They are here, they will pack everything in 2-3 hours tomorrow morning. I need to get back ASAP. I cannot wait for you to take your own sweet time. Tomorrow morning, I have made an appointment with Rahul. I have asked Dr. Shepard, a world famous cardio surgeon to fly down for my meeting with doctor Rahul. He will attend to Ria in New York. You can come along if you want. By the time we will be back, everything will be packed up. We can leave either tomorrow evening or day after morning. I would prefer tomorrow evening."
Manvi: "WHAT??? ARE YOU MENTAL?"
Virat: "No, you better get used to this, I am a part of your life now, you need to cut me some slack. I have an empire to take care of. Forgive me if I don't want to wait around for you to clean the attic with your tiny hands."
Manvi: "My hands are NOT tiny. And I cannot leave in a day, I have to meet with my boss and submit my resignation. They have a seven day waiting period."
Virat: "I will deal with them."
Manvi: "No, you won't. Virat, you are not my care-taker, I do not want you to do these things for me."
Virat: "Fine then, I will leave with the kids tomorrow, you can finish your work leisurely and join us, let me know and I will make all the arrangement for you. They most definitely can use a break from such a hardass mom anyways." He quipped sarcastically and left the room.
Manvi was overcome with wild infuriating rage. She thought really hard about her options. She didn't have any. She had dealt with everything with such patience, now she was breaking down. She went outside and saw Virat sitting on the couch and showing the kids how to play games on his ipad. They were laughing and giggling, climbing up on Virat's shoulder. She didn't step out, she locked the door and stepped in the warm bath to cool herself down.
If she was living with Virat now, she needed a solid game plan.
