Lets go back to 2009 or even 2010, there used to be only BOI and figures told by them were considered absolutely true. But later in 2011 trade analysts like taran adarsh started tracking boxoffice also. And figures of both were almost same.. But few months back difference started which was around 12 cr with Ek Tha Tiger but amazing 20+ with jab tak hai jaan.. Now lets see methodology of both..
BOI:-
BOI reports early estimates dailay from different circuits through theaters chain and geting trends from distributors, and give actuals territory-wise when distributors of all circuits give them figures.. So thats why jab tak hai jaan actuals came 10 cr less at the end of week, they kept posting daily estimate on basis of occupancies of theaters they got from their owners but when distributors gave actuals they were much low so they had to change.. This was methodology of BOI, now lets discuss trade..
TRADE:-
Trade give early estimates on the basis of occupancies they recieve from their sources among distributor but they give actuals on the basis of producers, means they report actuals same as producers anounce.. Thats the methodology of Trade..
DIFFERENCE:-
Now question is why there is difference?? Few years ago producers never used to give figures so there were only distributors so trade and BOI were almost same.. But few months back producers started giving daily figures which are always more than distributors, trade follow producers but BOI follow distributors, no one knows that who is true?? Its upto you whom to follow BOI and trade??
ANOTHER CONFUSION:-
Now biggest problem is this that 3rd party has also started giving figures, they have taken advantage of this difference between trade and BOI to publicize themselves.. This third party includes news chanels webs and newspaper website.. This party gives numbers without any source and confuse public more.. Their this agenda spoils the hardwork of trade and BOI..
CONCLUSION:-
Now one thing is sure that either distributors are wrong or producers are wrong but whatever the case is both trade and BOI work realy hard to bring respective figures, but this third party is totaly wrong.. Now its upon you whom to follow.. The best solution is this that both of them should sit together and do consensis on one figure..
