Gurmeet and Debina
They used to be the epitome of divine perfection in 'Ramayan', their first screen outing together and then they took their love into a 'real' mode with 'Pati Patni Aur Woh'. Television superstar Gurmeet Choudhary (best remembered by his millions of star struck fans as Maan Singh Khurana from 'Geet — Hui Sabse Parayi', and now as Yash Scindia of 'Punar Vivaah — Zindagi Milegi Dobara') and Debina Bonnerjee (currently essaying a lead role in Chidiya Ghar) continue to be starry eyed about each other, even days after their romantic vacation in Hong Kong to celebrate their second marriage anniversary and an early Valentine's Day. In a fun chat the 'still almost newly weds' (by their own admission) tell TOI, how to keep the romance alive.
How are you planning to celebrate Valentine's Day?
Gurmeet: Both of us are shooting as usual, but we'll do something the next day as February 15 is our marriage anniversary. Having said that, we always make sure that we take out some time for ourselves from our hectic schedules on V-Day. We'll have a double celebration — 14 and 15.
The two of you have just returned from a romantic vacation in Hong Kong. Gurmeet: We had the most wonderful time ever. We did a lot of sightseeing and spent some quality 'us' time.
Debina: We experimented a lot with food. Though there were loads of Indian restaurants, we sampled the local cuisine. The weather was perfect. I shopped till I literally dropped! We even went to a temple where we renewed our marital vows. It was a very special moment.
At a time when most young people have no time for love, what does love mean to you?
Gurmeet: Love is a precious feeling that binds Debina and me and that helps our relationship evolve and grow stronger with time. For me it's important to love your partner more everyday.
You were dating for a while before you finally got married. Has life changed significantly post marriage?
Debina: Life hasn't changed much after marriage — that's the beauty of our relationship. We were best friends before our marriage and we continue to remain best friends. However, Gurmeet has become a little possessive about me after marriage, but I love it.
What's that one thing required for a happily ever after?
Gurmeet: You need to understand your partner/spouse — that's all important in any relationship. Also, it's really necessary to give space to your partner as and when she/he requires it, basically don't be too possessive and breathe down his/her neck. You also need to learn to be more patient and act as a support for your partner/spouse during emotional/professional lows. Only, if you are willing to do all these for the one you love, can you hope to have a forever after.
