Today is the day when Vicky would be going to school. I am so nervous of his reaction. I don't know what will happen when he finds out. I really hope what I have decided is not a wrong decision at all. I made Geet understand of where I was coming from and why I did this but I knew deep inside she was heart broken. All through out the weekend, she spent all her time with him. She would look at Anamika if she needed feeding other than that her day and night started and ended with Vicky. She even slept with him holding him closer.
Such a strong bond between them, I had never imagined. Now, she was getting him ready for school while Vicky talked non stop about his friends and how he doesn't want to go to school. I could tell she was holding back her tears while dressing him up. I just stood at the doorway feeling guilty. I was again causing pain to both. The servants had already packed his belongings without his knowledge now I just need to bring him and make him understand.
"Can I come in?"
Geet saw Maan at the door looking at both of them but mostly her with pain. She knew that he noticed her eyes and her grief over Vicky. What can I do? I know when he makes a decision, he won't back down even if it kills him. Sending Vicky away, making him independence was a good decision but I don't' know how I will be able to live with this decision. Just thinking about Vicky's reaction makes me scared and worried. He is just a kid. Will he be able to understand Maan's point of view? His insecurities might take over. I am scared what if Vicky does something to himself?
I nodded letting him in. I stood up unable to face him and kept myself busy with his stuff. I quietly left the room knowing Maan might want some quality time with him to make him understand.
Maan bends down on his knees looking at Vicky with a smile. He adjust his tie while Vicky holds his hand.
"No. Di has fixed it for me. You are going to mess it up"
"Okay. I won't fix what your precious Di had done for you"
"Vicky, remember once I had told you that you are a big boy?" (He picks him up and places him on his lap)
"yes. I am a big boy. See I am going to school today with a smile. I will not cry"
"hmm yes I can see. Vicky, (he sighs) you should know that Anamika will look up to you like a big brother. She would want a brother who is independent and is able to take care of her"
"What's independent? Is that a necklace?"
"Not a pendent but independent. It means doing everything on your own such as getting ready, doing your homework on your own and.."
"Ohh but I do that? You know I was going to get ready on my own but Di wouldn't listen. You know Di is the baby. You should talk to her. Today, in the morning, she couldn't stop hugging me as if I was a teddy bear."
"ohh really. I didn't know that. Good thing you told me. Anyway, Vicky remember what I said about being a good boy okay?"
"Okay. Now, lets go down for breakfast."
Geet fed Vicky with her own hands completely ignoring Maan. Although, he understood her plight for Vicky but there was nothing he could do. She wouldn't even look at him and when she did she would plead with her eyes to not let this happen. Maan would look at her for a second than turn away. The longer he stayed at the table the harder it became for him to do what he had wished to do.
Right after the breakfast, Geet once again hugs him tightly with tears while Vicky had no clue what was happening.
"I can't breath di"
Geet chuckles and lets go of him. She waves them goodbye standing at the door with a heavy heart. Maan kept Vicky on his lap as they drove toward the school. All this while Maan kept a smiling face but as they kept getting near and near his mind started thinking of possible outcomes.
"Sir we are here" (Maan nodes and gets out of the car.) "its show time"
The priciple was already there to greet them as soon as they got out. The driver took out his suit cases from the trunk handing them out to the security guard. Maan bends down on his knee looking at him with a half smile.
"Vicky, remember own talk before minutes ago about a big boy?" (He nodes) "Well, its time that you show me you are a big boy."
"What do you mean? Bhai I could go to classes by myself. You don't need to come" (he palm smacks Maan on his forehead)
"No, Vicky. You will be staying here from now on but don't worry me and your di will come to visit you every weekend."
"Why?" (He asks with a sad face, tears begins to form)
"Because I want you to be able to do everything on your own." (He touches Vicky's face only to have them snatched away.)
"you don't love me that's why. Bhai please I don't want to live here. They are not nice. Please. I will do anything."
"Vicky, try to understand. Me and your Di will not be with you 24/7 you need to know how to do certian things on your own like I did."
"NO!!!" (he screams out loud shocking everyone. Vicky hugs Maan tight while sobbing. Maan puts on a stern face not wanting to show as a weak person in front of him. He brings Vicky out of his hold shaking him with anger.)
"I don't want to hear anything. You will stay here from now on. Understood?!"
"No. I won't stay here"
"I don't want to hear anything anymore. Guards take him inside."
They grab Vicky's arm as he cried and reached his arm to get hold of Maan's hand. Maan shakes his hand off as they dragged him away.
"LET GO OF ME...I DON'T WANT TO GO...BHAI"
He yells and screams as Maan begins to walk away with tears. He tried to ingore his yelling and screaming. He didn't want to see him in this much pain but he had no choice.
"PLEASE...I WON'T EVEN TALK, I WON'T PLAY..."
Maan opens the car door trying very hard not to look away. He heard Vicky screaming in pain. He turns around to see that Vicky was on the ground trying to crawl to him while one of the gaurd held his wrist trying to pull him up. Maan could see his elbow burised starting to bleed.
"BHAI DON'T LEAVE ME..."
Maan walks over there picking Vicky up hugging him tightly with tears. Vicky hugs him back soaking his shirt. Maan looks at his elbow and scratches on his hand. His anger rose looking at the guard. He walks over to him punching him on the nose.
Maan walks to the car pulling Vicky on his lap.
"Am sorry Vicky. I will never do this again. I will homeschool you or find a school close to home. Please forgive me." Vicky wasn't letting him go. He still held onto Maan's neck tightly while his head rested on his shoulder. His crying was muffled down but still Maan could hear whimpering.
"I will make it up to you. Tell me do you want some ice cream? A toy? New clothes? Vicky look at me..."
"I don't want anything...or else you might send me away again"
"I won't...am sorry..." (Maan holds his face kissing it. Vicky looks at the tears in his eyes)
"You are crying?'
"yes, for the pain I have caused you. Am sorry. Lets go for an ice cream"
"No. I want to go home to di..."
"okay..."
Geet laid on Vicky's bed holding on to his teddy bear with tears. The whole house seemed so quiet without him. She missed him and wanted him back. She could hear Anamika crying but she couldn't bring herself out of the bed. Only one thought ran in her mind, Vicky. How was he, what he was doing, his reaction, everything. She hides her face in the pillow.
Maan brings Vicky home as soon as he was home he runs upstaris toward his room. Geet gets up when she heard his voice. She sits on the bed to see Vicky running up to her huging her tightly. She cries holding her in her arms while Maan stood far away. He goes to the room to pick up Anamika who was crying. Her face was red while she hiccuped. All his favorite people were in tears because of him.
Geet kisses Vicky while he frowns. She wipes his tears away kissing his hands when she noticed the bruises. There was a handprint on his wrist and his elbow was bruised, bleeding.
"What happened to you?"
"the guard uncle was holding me very tighly and wouldn't let me go to bhai."
Maan comes back to the room after he puts Anamika to sleep. He looks at Geet who glared at him with anger. Vicky hugs Geet tightly while still having tears in his eyes.
"woh..uhh...I came to say am sorry..."
"enough. This time sorry won't cut it. You will have to make it up to Vicky for this. Until than you are not allowed in his room"
"yeah." (Vicky nodes with Geet. Maan sighs knowing he has a tough time ahead to mannofy both the people he loves. Geet picks Vicky up heading toward the bathroom for cleaning.)
