Chapter-4
Khushi stood there lost in thoughts fidgeting with her dupatta when she heard the familiar husky voice behind her "Look like today Mr. Mittal told you about meeting a prospective groom, you are not dressed in formals today"
Khushi turned back to look at the speaker and her hazel ones got locked in the unblinking gaze of the dark chocolate brown ones. She was not sure if the golden glint in the centre of the caramel orbs was natural or because of the lighting but she was sure of one thing that she has never felt such a strong pull towards any man in her whole life.
What strong pull!!! Stop dreaming Khushi Kumari Gupta nothing like this exists in reality. It is just his handsome face and deep brown eyes, don't look in those eyes.
Arnav had reluctantly agreed to attend this party after Anjali had emotionally blackmailed him saying how Mrs. Mittal had helped her one day in temple when she was unwell and Anjali being unable to attend this party being out of town he has to convey her regards in person. The moment he has entered he knew he will be bored to death here, so he had decided to go back after meeting Mr. & Mrs. Mittal. But the moment he was ready to go he saw a familiar face clad in a blue anarkali which accentuated her curves and then flared at hips. She was standing there with few other women smiling at what one of them was saying before excusing herself and there she stood alone in a corner, her back towards him. Without any second thoughts he headed towards her telling her something on the lines of what she has told him in their first meeting. He watched her face as shock registered on it for a brief moment followed by something he could not understand.
Khushi saw him looking at her intently as if searching for something. They stood their looking at each other for minutes or seconds they didn't know. Khushi was the first to break her gaze away from him.
"Fortunately for me he is busy in his own party to do any sort of match-making" she chuckled.
His lips curved upwards in a small smile. "Are you alone? I mean is there nobody from your office here?"
"No, they were here sometime back, must have gone to have some snacks" she answered looking around for them when she got a call from her colleague that she has left from the party due to an emergency at home.
They got engaged in some general talk sipping on their drinks. They talked for a while before Arnav decided to leave for home.
"I am leaving now. If you are ready to leave I can drop you" he said.
"No I will manage. Thanks" she replied.
"It's quite late now. Come I will drop you" he insisted.
Khushi didn't want him to drive extra to drop her but she knew her colleague with whom she has come has already left, so it was better if she left with him as finding a transport at this ungodly hour would be very difficult.
Arnav opened the passenger door of his white SUV for her. She sat comfortably inside. He was about to remind her of seatbelt but saw her clipping that on place even before he could speak. Usually he always has to remind his company if it's a girl for seatbelt, him being an ardent follower of traffic rules. So it came as a little surprise when this nave little girl did what he least expected from her. Arnav looked at her sideways his one hand on steering wheel and another on key to turn engine on when she raised her eyebrows at him questioningly.
He shook his head indicating nothing turning on the engine as he heard her soft voice "Seatbelt".
Arnav was amused at himself for forgetting what he always has been telling others. He slowly clipped the seatbelt and put the car in motion as he drove out from the venue. They sat quite comfortably in the silence for few minutes before Khushi asked him if she could turn on some music. Getting his permission she turned on fm. Soft music reverberated in car in sync with the soft breezes flowing outside.
"I learnt today that Mr. Mittal is leaving for States in few months" asked Arnav after few minutes of comfortable silence.
"Yes, maximum in two months" she said grimly.
"What are you planning to do now?"
"Not sure. I guess I will take a break for a month. I hardly had any time to travel in the past, seems it is the perfect time for me to go backpacking in some hill station" she said smiling a little.
"You are sad due to Mittal Creations closing down"
This was not a question but a statement. She wondered if she was that transparent for him to read her thoughts so clearly.
"This is my first office so it feels a little bad to see it shutting down though we all knew that sir will close it down in a year or two. It just seems so fast" her last sentence almost a whisper.
"If you see the silver lining, it is a new opportunity for you to grow"
"Hmmm" was all he got in response.
He took few turns asking her for directions and in few minutes he pulled over his car in front of her home.
"Thanks for the lift" she said as she got down earning a "Not a problem" fro him. They bid each other goodbye and she moved in her home. Arnav drove back home as he watched her entering her home.
-------------------------------------
Payal knew something was amiss in her young sister who was lying on bed absent mindedly staring at the ceiling. This happens only at two occasions; one when Khushi is scheming a super plan in her mind which mostly spells trouble and another when she is unhappy. Payal knew she was not scheming anything as she was not talking to herself so she asked her what Khushi is thinking about to which she just got a mere nothing in response.
Khushi looked at her sister who narrowed her eyes at her reply.
"Jiji, nothing important. I was thinking if we shall make paranthas for breakfast tomorrow"
"If you don't want to tell me your problem it's fine Khushi. But at least don't lie to me" Payal said turning to other side.
"Don't get upset with me Jiji please. I am already sad"
"Why?"
"I think I should not have gone to the party today" Khushi said dejectedly.
"Did someone say anything to you? Tell me, I will teach him a lesson" Payal said getting up from her sleeping position.
"No Jiji. It is just that it was my last party with my colleagues. Some of them are leaving by end of this week. Even I am here for only this month. To top it everyone I met today was talking about this only. All friends of Sir and Sapna were discussing it" she said in a hurt tone.
"Don't be so sad Khushi. You remember you were crying while leaving your college too but you got it over soon when you joined this office. You will feel good when you will join new office. Look at me I have changed two offices, trust me it will be beneficial for your professional growth" she said smiling at Khushi.
"I know jiji and I don't know why everyone keeps telling me this" she said resting her head on Payal's shoulder.
Payal tried to cheer her up with funny stories of her and her friends of joining new offices and interviews. This surely made her mood lighter as she laughed open heartedly for the first time in the day.
Khushi had decided to take her last month in office lightly as her being gloomy won't do any good and she cannot change anything about it. So the next day went quite well for her and she realized her decision was right. What was the loss in being happy anyway? She thought.
Finally it was her last week in office and they had completed all their in-hand projects. Khushi was having fun with her colleagues in the now vacant sample room, each doing a ramp walk in turns.
Khushi took a yellow stole, wrapped it around and started walking. As she walked and stood on the spot imitating professional models perfectly, glass door of room opened and Mr. Mittal entered.
"I had no idea you have this talent apart from designing" he chuckled.
Khushi looked up and gaped in embarrassment as everyone laughed at her.
After few moments she left the room with Mr. Mittal as he told her that he wanted to talk to her. Khushi just prayed to her favorite Devi Maiyya to not give her any news to dampen her spirits.

Hello! I'm really sorry for the late edit. Loved the seatbelt part. 😆 *Sigh* Backpacking in some hill station seems so delightful. Payal is such a sweetly protective sister.
