As much as a I criticize PKDH for crowd pleasing sugary drama, deep inside I LOVE it...
Sometimes it's hard to explain why you love something or someone...you just do. The week brought some clarity to my understanding of why I love PKDH.
I only watch 2 other shows regularly. One is ITV masterpiece classic...I have been following the characters for 3 years now. Last Sunday I saw my favorite character die and cried a bucket thinking maybe this is what the story demands. By next week another character will die (my friend who watches with me gave me the spoiler) and we realized as good as Julian Fellowes is as a writer he is motivated purely by shock value! 😲What a let down.
The other show I watch is by the same creative team who had made another Hindi serial a worldwide phenomenon. I was enjoying the same formula ...a dark, brooding hero with a sad past falls for a happy go lucky gal with similar past, love and hate tug of war etc. Last Monday the hero slapped the heroine!?!? It wasn't just passionate grab of the hands or cornering a heroine ...it was a clear swing with a tight slap with menacing anger in his eyes. I cringed and recoiled in disgust. This is abuse!😡
I quickly turned to PKDH with very little expectations after the Mahaepisode. Oh what heavenly bliss ...honey, candy, liquid chocolate , maple syrup dripping all over the screen... Hero's mom admits to all her fault without an abusive slap or unnecessary death. Sanskari heroine teases hero about what sweet treats awaits him as prize for his patience... plain and simple romance that fills your heart with warmth. Thank you Rajsree for the OTT diabetes inducing episodes that only you can make. Thank you for making me feel safe and at home. 🤗 You resonate with me for the core values that I believe in. I love PKDH despite the fault finding mission that I'm always on.
