Why just India? With power comes greater responsibility. But now that we are talking about India, curruption, power, suppression in police department is nothing new. Some time ago, when they had flood in Surat, Gujarat, I was viewing some pictures and it had this hawaldar carrying police on his shoulder acrross this water. Such a spinelss picture. Let's not generalize, but yes, police in India are known for using their power without being responsible.

First of all: Looooooooooove your siggy. I have been meaning to comment on that for a while now. I instantly recognized you at the center but who are those four dudes to your left and how come they look exactly like the ones to your right? [they are the same - they balance the thing]

Anyway, A famous saying goes: power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. A person in charge of keeping others in line is very susceptible to abusive transformation. I am not defending the cops but I believe it is a natural consequeance of being inducted into law-enforcement that the person will abuse the power. Happens in most countries - has happened in all ages.

We also need to consider what quality of people get attracted to te profession. With the salary the government is paying and the inherant risk to life and a constant sense of indegnation these people have to face, it is very likely that the force will attract a lot of people who have no reagard for their own lives and dignity - and by extention for anyone else's. Police brutality is not a disease but a symptom of how sick our society is. Saying that does not give any individual cop an exempt from basic human decency but we as a society need to do our part about the issue also. [I agree]

You make a very valid point though and I command you for bring it up for the discussion. 👏

BTW, I have heard that Einsteine, when young, called himself smarterhebrewkid. Didn't quite catch on.

1. THe four guys - are Einstein, Newton, the other i forgot - I know - bt dun know the name😆

2. - The only info i have on police is that:

when I went to indiam they make u pull over without reason, as it happend to my uncle once
and they need either money, or some "explanation" as my cousin once did"- the rest = news, and shows😆

so currently - I have nothing to either defend them, r agree that they are misuins there power:

3. Thanks😳

4. Smarterhewbrewkid - I never knew tat😆

the origination on this topic was the News I saw a couple of days ago [as in the 1st post] - heard this Police beating a 65 year old...that's what gave me the idea of this topic😊

Well, i know that i get scared when i see Indian Police in India...

I remember they pulled us over once...in Agra...and the guy was asking for Rs1000 to let us go.
My dad, comes to the car whilst the police guy is talkin to the driver...dad gets his mobile and takes it and goes back to the police guy, after about 2mins he goes to him "yeh alright, i have evidence against ya asking for money. I can take you to court (and some other blabber 😆 )

and then the guy let us off!!!! 😆 😉

65 yr old....well from all the stereotypes...i'm thinkin of an old and frail man...and hes gettin beat up

BUT it cud also be say Dawood Ibrahim when he's 65.... 😉

but yeh, the environment does tend to change ya...i mean, janwar maarne waala bhi khud jaanwar banjata hai

Awesome Topic!

I was shocked at a coverage on news once. I dont remember the location in India, but it was quite recent. The police, headed by a women officer, BEAT and HIT any boy/girl, man/woman couple they saw at a particular park without asking for any explanation!!!! They didnt care to know whether they were married, adults, or anything else!! She pushed the journo away too, I think. And guess what she had to say: that these people were skipping college!

A height of shameful ignorance on their part. I dont remember whether the dept. was reprimanded/disciplined for this silly abuse of power or whether any action against them was taken at all...but it disgusted me and outraged my sensibilities, and made me feel utterly helpless in front of such people which is the system itself. 🤢

Abuse of power exists everywhere, but I think in India its a degree (or a few more) higher than most places...someone correct me if I am wrong.

it is not only the police of India- even in U.Ss it happens. it happens everywhere probably. anyone who gains power happens to misuse it ( i mean most or atleast some ppl).

Another Gujarathi genius in the forum!!!!!!

Smarter Desi Kid ji!!!

Nice Topic👏!!!!

I don't like Indian Police much but things will not go on if we don't have police. They are not that bad atleast some policemen are good. The biggest tragedy is NO Police Official has power,Police system is almost controlled by Politicians.Sometimes we really feel like showing pity on them.I defintely agree that Indian Police system is corrupt but they do serve people.

BTW smarter kid you missed my image in your signature😛.I don't mind if you put colour or black and white photograph😊.Just for fun.

Great siggy!!!

Cheers,

Mythili
