Chapter Nineteen – The Picture

Two days.

Two days had gone by and she still hadn't gotten out of her shocked mode.

She hadn't said a word to me in two days.

She hadn't even looked up at me in two days.

And on top of that, whenever I went to feed her food, it was impossible to do so without hurting her…so she hadn't ate in two days.

She was turning pale…and looked awfully similar to my Madhu the day she had…

My point is…Madhuri wasn't herself.

Nothing worked. I tried to take her out of her shock by talking to her.

I spoke her own lines to her, "mind over matter" but she didn't respond.

She sat in bed all day unless she had to go to the bathroom.

She did nothing else.

Nothing.

It was as if I was still all alone in my house.

I was walking towards the stairs, after I had applied ointment to Madhuri's wounds, when suddenly I heard the doorbell ring.

I went to open the door as I wondered whom it could be.

Probably Bittuji running back to me, I remember thinking to myself.

I opened the door.

Raj. That little bas***d.

The moment I saw his face, his smirk, his beady eyes, I just wanted to land him in the hospital again.

I grabbed him by the collar and pulled him into my house.

I stood with my back towards the open door.

"How did you even have the guts to come here?!"

I spoke angrily between my clenched teeth.

But he smiled.

His smile irritated more than anything else ever had in my entire life. I couldn't control what happened next.

He didn't speak, so I hit him.

A few blows to the head.

Then I brought him standing again, I had him by the collar.

I looked him in the eyes.

He was in clear pain but he slowly placed a smile on his face again.

Then he spoke.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you…"

"Oh really? Now you're going to tell me what to do? YOU?"

"Only trying to help. You do as you please!"

I stared at him confused. I didn't understand why he was welcoming me to basically kill him.

I figured I'd ignore him and I spoke to him as I tightened my grip on his collar.

"If your filthy hands ever touch M…"

"COME IN."

Come in? Who was he talking to? Who was he inviting into MY house?!

Not even a few seconds passed when suddenly I had my hands cuffed behind my back.

I looked to either side of me and saw a pair of policemen eyeing me down as if I had just commit murder.

I saw a couple of police ladies run into my house.

I instantly thought of Madhuri.

"HEY! What's going on?! Let me go!"

"Oh RK…"

Raj chuckled his evil chuckle…the same one I had heard on the phone that night.

Then he walked towards me.

I attempted to get free from the policemen but they had me good.

He stood a perfect distance away from me, just close enough for me to see his disgusting face but far enough so I couldn't pull any move on him.

Then he spoke.

"Yup, this is him, he's the one who kidnapped and beat my sister."

"WHAT?! I DID NO SUCH THING."

I tried to get free to attack Raj. I almost did. He stepped back but then the police got a better grip on me.

My eyes went to look over his shoulder and that's when I saw her.

I froze.

She was coming out with the support of the police ladies on either side of her.

She continued to stare at the ground.

My only hope was a lifeless statue.

I looked at Raj and saw his smile.

I knew there was no way I was getting out of this.

They had just found her beaten up in my house and her 'brother' had come with the police.

She hadn't spoken or even looked in my direction in days.

There was no way out…

"Madhu?"

She didn't look up after hearing me, but Raj sure turned to face her.

Then the police ladies spoke.

"Is this her?"

"OH MADHU!"

He ran towards her and hugged her lifeless body.

I had to look away. I was disgusted by his act.

If it weren't for the policemen, I would've definitely killed him for having touched her again with his filthy hands. I would've cut off his hands first.

Oh the things I wish I could've done to him…

He walked back towards me.

Madhu continued to stare at the ground as the police ladies brought her near us.

I kept my eyes on her. But she kept her eyes glued to the ground.

Then the policemen at either side of me spoke.

"Mr. Rishabh Kundra, you're under arrest for the kidnapping and physical abuse of Madhuri Sharma."

Her eyes shot up at me for the first time in days.

I looked into them.

Waiting for her to speak.

But she just stared at me.

Not a single word escaped her mouth.

"Madhu?"

I saw her eyes shift towards her smirking brother just as the policemen began to turn me around.

As we stepped one step forwards, she finally spoke.

"Wait…"

It seemed odd to hear something out of her after she had been silent for days. She sounded tired, upset, not herself…

The policemen turned with me to face her again.

Raj's eyes were wide.

I stared at her and then she looked away.

She reached into her pocket and pulled out some sort of paper.

She opened it up and then turned it to face me.

My jaw dropped to the ground and my heart shattered, again.

It was a picture of my Madhu…standing next to me...the night of the party.

How did she have that?!

I closed my eyes as the memories of that night began to fill my mind.

Then I heard her voice.

"Madhubhala Kundra."

My eyes shot open to stare at her. She had her eyes on me; they were slowly filling with tears as she continued.

"My name is Madhubala Rishabh Kundra."
