Thank you friends for comments. Most of you felt update was short but it was actually the usual length. This update is much bigger and I know it is indecent to say so but this and next few chapters are my personal favorites. So do let me know if you like them too.

All of you want very harsh punishment for Rahul. Pragmatically speaking, I think rarely physical punishments are doled out for such offences. Also, I have tried to portray Geet's wishes and her problems in this part.

Someone asked me to include more about how to prevent such issues in workplace. My own company has some very good procedures though I still wonder how much successful they are.

a) We have an individual local centre based committee for such complaints. Names of these committees are published and it comprises of senior people from that location including at least one girl member and one HR member. All the proceedings are anonymous and they can be reached at any given time

b) There are CCTV cameras in alleyways, conference rooms and floors. A separate security team monitors these cameras

It depends on company to company and the size of each company. Also, nothing can probably avoid small things like snide remarks etc unless people's mentality changes. But yes, some similar measures can at least avoid things getting out of hand.

Chapter 19 – Kaisi hai yeh udasi

Next day

Maan washed his face and tried to look presentable. His eyes were puffy and red due to tears, pain, lack of sleep and finally anger. But somehow, he managed to start his day and called up Adi with instructions.

"Jo hua, nahi hona chaiye tha. Par mein kuch bhi kar loon waqt ko peeche nahi ghuma sakta. But I promise you Geet, whatever happened has happened. I wish I was in your life before, I wish I had realized my feelings earlier but these are just that…wishes. But I promise myself today that I will not let any new pain even touch you. Before touching you, your destiny has to go through me. I don't care what my relationship is with you or if you ever realize my love leave alone accept it. But I will not ever leave you alone till my last breath."

On other side Adi was fractionally surprised at Maan sir's directions. But then he knew how serious Maan sir took security issues and on top of it Geet was probably first secretary in long time to have become integral part of KC so soon.

Pinky was frustrated and with a slight anger opened the door

"Pata nahi kaun khote ka puttar si itni subah subah."

But words died and her eyes widened in surprise as she saw Maan sir standing at her door.

She gulped her saliva along with her words - "Maan Sir"

"Good Morning Pinky and I know it is early but I…actually I wanted to talk to Geet and you too. If it is ok can I come inside?"

Pinky was too dazed to say anything and she just let Maan sir come in.

"Woh Geet…is she sleeping?"

"What...no no sir…actually even after sleeping pills she could not rest properly…I mean…I will get her sir."

Maan nodded and sat down on the sofa waiting to catch glimpse of his life.

Geet was upset when Pinky told her about Maan sir waiting for her. She was feeling ashamed and did not know how to face him. But Pinky somehow convinced her

"Woh itne bade aadmi hain Geet phir bhi bahar hain. Unhe wait karana thik nahi hai na…chal"

On one side, she was worried if he blamed her for this…even if he trusted she was telling truth what will she say if he asked why she did not tell about this earlier. She cringed at the thought of seeing hatred, anger or even sympathy in his eyes for her.

Maan saw her walking slowly with her head bowed. Pinky made her gently sit on the sofa. Maan's heart wrenched in pain seeing her state. She looked pale and even through full sleeve suit, he could see her bruises on arm and shoulder along with on the face.

"Geet…"

Geet finally gathered courage and looked up fearing to see anger, disgust, pity or maybe distrust on his face but her eyes just met with a pair of chocolate brown eyes full of concern for her. He held her gaze with so many emotions in his own eyes as if trying to talk to her hazel ones with his

"Geet…Adi ne bataya mujhe and I apologize for what happened. I know that a sorry is nowhere enough and please I assure you ki tum jaise chahogi waisa hi hoga….I will not be at peace till you get the justice you deserve."

Geet wanted to tell him that there was nothing for him to apologize for but no words came out of her mouth. Just, few fresh tears trickled down her eyes.

"As KC employee, your safety is my first priority and I failed today in it"

Maan gulped down the tears and bile which rose in his throat. He dug his nails in his own palm to gain control and be strong in front of the girl who absolutely seemed devastated.

"I want you to take complete rest and I know it is easy to say but please try not to worry too much. I will take care of everything and there are few things I wanted to talk to you. Isiliye, mein yahan subhe subha aaya hoon…iske baad you take as much time as you want but we need to do few things quickly. Lekin there is no pressure on you. Please jab you are ready, tab tum soch samajh ke mujhe jawab de sakti ho.

First and most important thing is your well being. I have told Adi and he has arranged all your follow-up appointments with the doctor. Pinky will accompany you till it is required.

Uske baad you have to think of what action you want to take. Please don't worry, jo bhi legal ya financial requirement hai, I promise they will be fulfilled by KC. For the police complaint against that…that man, I ensure you full support and I will gather all the evidences as required. We already have doctor report and with help of C…."

Geet looked at Maan in shock at the name of police. She almost screamed in absolute fear

"Nahi Nahi…please kisi ko kuch mat batana…police ko nahi…please…main kisis se kuch nahi kahungi…mein yahan se kahin aur chali jaaongi lekin police ko kuch nahi batana…I am begging you …please please"

Maan, Adi and Pinky were surprised by her reaction. She almost looked wild with widened eyes and vehement denial.

Pinky tried to calm her and Maan thinking she was scared of Rahul, hurried to explain her

"Geet…please tum aisa kyon keh rahi ho….tumhaari koi galti nahi hai. Tumhein kahin jaane ki zaroorat nahi hai. Pehli baat toh jaise maine kaha wahi hoga jot um kahaogi lekin tumhein kisi se darne ki koi zaroorat nahi hai. I will not let than man even come in front of you if you don't want and that is my promise."

Geet was crying profusely now and Maan just got up and went to kitchen to get her a glass of water. Geet took it with shaking hands and calmed herself down.

"Please sir, I don't want to involve police. Please. It is not because of Rahul but….sob…but because of my past. My…sob…my family is looking for me and I don't…I don't want them to find me. Agar police mein gaye toh…please sir. Please."

Maan was taken aback a little with her revelation but then he did not want to add to her problems. Already she was traumatized and maybe this was not the right approach if she did not want it.

"Thik hai Geet….I will ensure that no police or outside agency is involved. But if you ever want to change your decision, you just have to say."

Geet nodded her head and then came to the point which was troubling her the most.

"Maan sir, please sir, you trust me na. Meri ismein koi galti nahi thi…sir, I did not do anything wrong."

Maan's eyes moistened and he desperately wanted to just hold her tight. He controlled his tears and spoke softly

"I know Geet…I have full faith in you. Never think hat you did anything wrong. He is the one who did a crime and he is the only one who is responsible. Always keep that in mind and never punish yourself for someone else's mistake. I know it is not easy but try to understand what I am saying.

You can not stop living your life or moving ahead because of what happened. If that happens then, you will be punishing yourself. Yes you are hurt but you have to be courageous and face the circumstance. Don't pity yourself and don't hide either. Tumhari is sab mein koi galti nahi hai and you have to believe it from your heart.

"I will ensure that you don't have to face that bas***d ever again. I will make him pay as much as I can without involving the authorities. Do you trust me to allow to take that action on your behalf?"

Geet just nodded her head. Maan's words of comfort and trust had filled her with strength…somewhere her heart found little peace that her Maan sir believed her and trusted her.

"Also, galti KC ki bhi hai. Ideally you could have done a case of negligence and unsafe environment on the company. Due to your circumstances, I know you will not like to do it. Isiliye, I will suggest a liability lawyer to you and you can discuss with the lawyer and submit a claim. Though no money can compensate for what has happened but without legal proceedings also, KC will pay you the monetary compensation you want."

Geet looked at the man who was MD of the company and telling her that he will help her in filing a claim against his own company. She could see the responsibility and guilt Maan felt in his eyes. Though her own heart was paining, she felt a pang of hurt seeing his condition. She noticed his red eyes and worried look. She had this urge to just hold him and hug him, to comfort him and remove those wrinkles from his forehead.

She jerked out of that thought and tried to name her emotion as deep respect for the first man she had met who was morally so strong that she felt lucky to have just known him.

She wiped her tears away knowing that they were the reason for that worry. She gave a small smile and straightened her shoulders.

"Nahi Maan sir. I am fortunate to have been associated with a company like KC. Pinky is right Maan sir. I have not felt the self-respect I feel in KC even at my house. Then how can I think KC is responsible for this?"

"Lekin Geet…this is your right"

"Maan sir, you left the decision on me. I will not penalize the company which has given me another reason to live. I can not ask anymore then the support and love I have got from this job. Thank you Maan sir for everything you have done. I know it is also just a very small word but your presence, guidance and support mean a lot to me. Aapne mujh pe trust kiya, yehi bahut hai mere liye."

She looked down again

"I will need some days leave Sir…I don't want to come with these marks but I promise I will come back. I will not hide or feel pity as you said Maan sir. Your words mean a lot to me.

And yes, I know how important this project is for KC. I don't want project to suffer so I will call Vidyut and pass all the information."

Maan was awed by her concern for the project and his words. But mostly he was relieved that she was ready to fight out of the circumstances. Her words gave him strength that she will be able to overcome and come out of this ordeal.

"You are a brave girl Geet. It is me who is fortunate to know you."

Maan just gave another long glance at the frail girl in front of him and with a sigh moved out of the house. There was so much more he wanted to say but the circumstances were not correct for either to pour out his own pain or to absorb hers.
