Judges on the box, who is the fairest of them all?
Reality show, reality show on the tube…who's the fairest judge of them all…Not the perfect rhyme, but you get the point, don't you? Yes, We are talking about
celebrity judges on prime time television. With all channels jumping onto the reality show bandwagon, not to forget its impact on rat ings, the judge has become more than just a pretty face. A celebrity judge is as important as the tadka in dal. They praise, criticise and dole out points and even launch into monologues at times, while the participants grin and bear it. We decide to put some celebrity judges in the hot seat to see how they fare. The Nach Baliye trio
Saroj Khan Style quotient: You love her. You hate her, but you cannot ignore her. We assure you there are not too many people who like her. The veteran choreographer tends to go
over the top. Known to rub up contestants the wrong way, she is brutally honest and is blunt when required. Ratings moment: Obviously when she blows her trademark whistle or says something in chaste Hindi which can either make the contestant go red in the face or have tears rolling down their faces (Ask Shweta Kawaatra who won over Khan in just two episodes after first being called 'manly' ). Our vote: We think she can go easy on her 'rudeness' and she could do with being less overly generous at other times (like she did in last week's episode when she gave Shweta Tiwari more marks than she deserved). Over all: Full seetis to you! 9/10.
Kunal Kohli Style quotient: Definitely a treat for the eyes. Armed with a smile and politeness-personified, he definitely scores. He's not the sort to discourage contestants. He loves the underdog and lavishes praise 19 to the dozen. Ratings moment: When he blows kisses and hugs contestants. Our vote: For perfecting the gentleman act. 9/10
Malaika Arora Khan Style quotient: The original diva needs no introduction. She's both attractive and spontaneous with her comments. Ratings moment: Who would not like being hugged by her? And the skin show: nobody does it better than her or more stylishly. Our vote: For 'eye candy' value, 10/10. The Jhalak makers
Farah Khan Style quotient: We like it when she's saucy and catty. Unfortunately, marriage has mellowed her down. Generous with her compliments, she knows how to sugar coat criticism. Ratings moment: Her spontaneous gestures and her quickwit are winners. Our vote: For just being Farah Khan. 10 /10.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali Style quotient: Clearly the recluse trying to let loose his inhibitions. With his trademark black sherwani and bearded look, he is an enigma. Soft spoken as he is, one often forgets his presence. Like his films, goes over the top with his compliments. Shveta Salve's dancing style reminds him of Madhuri Dixit! Really? We are still reeling from that one. Ratings moment: His wallet, that is conspicuously absent Our vote: He could be a little outspoken and look less uninterested. 8/10
Shilpa Shetty Style quotient: The oomph girl with the right clothes and the hour-glass figure — but are these good enough reasons to have her on the show? Looks do not a judge make. Clearly at a loss for words, her comments often border on echoing her co-judges' sentiments. Ratings moment: When she wore the 'too hot to handle' white T-shirt gifted by Ajay Jadeja and danced with him. She should be there on the dance floor, not on the judge's panel. Our vote: She could do with a thesaurus to improve her vocabulary of adjectives describing the performances other than 'superb'. 5/10
Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs' melodious musketeers
Abhijeet Style quotient:The male version of Saroj Khan, he is extremely catty and has a great sense of humour. Though he often jokes at the expense of others, he also has the capacity to laugh at himself. He is seldom off the mark with his comments. Ratings moment: His constant banter with co-judge Alka Yagnik. Out vote: He can cross the limits while airing his own views, and that spoils the atmosphere. 9/10
Alka Yagnik Style quotient: Endearing, tothe-point and very balanced. Ratings moment: When she gives it back to Abhijeet with her witty retorts. Our vote: For being the mother and keeping it sane, 10/10.
Bappi Lahiri Style quotient: The original bling-bling man, he's kind to a tee with his remarks. Ratings moment: When he sings out the marks in his own compositions. Our vote: He needs to lose the 'politically correct' tag now. Otherwise, 8/10.
