Padmini, Mother India, really surprised me in today's episode.
Since she agreed to marry Malik, I knew we would get a scene where Padmini has to take off her mangalsutra and sindoor.
I figured there would be guilt, doubt and crying. After all, a married Indian woman that has to remove the articles that symbolize her marriage has always been shown in soaps to be more horrible then dying - even if the husband was the devil.
How refreshing today's scene was!
I was shocked when Padmini said she felt 'light' after taking off the mangalsutra. She said what??? Where's the guilt? where's the dialogue about being a horrible person? Padmini said she was feeling good? Damn right!
Imagine the burden she has had to carry emotionally and physically. But esp emotionally. To still attach yourself to a man who is a psycho and a murderer - and for what - because society expects it?
And then taking off the sindoor. Padmini was happy. She was free.
Both Drashti and Pallavi did an amazing job. And i want to thank the creative team of this show for not showing us the same guilt and doubt that we have seen countless times.
