Is life that easy? I wondered, she so easily accepted me as I am. I wanted to ask her, was she not insecure about marrying a man who is just a graduate? Who is not hail and healthy? But I could not.

Self pity as Maa says has become a part of my life; I too wonder if this is true. At present all I know is that she has agreed to marry me as I am; Annie must praised me a lot. As the engagement day was nearing I was feeling very low, maybe insecure.

Today we are to be engaged, I am still not sure what I want, from the day I had met her, we have quite often talked on the phone, she always talked to me normally a way too normally I think; I discuss many things openly with her, but I am not able to talk about our future together, I do not know why but she is very mysterious.

Everyone around me was busy making arrangements for the evening, I somehow called Annie.

She came in rushing, "Bhai, what do you want?"

"Close the door, Annie" I said with a calm voice.

She looked at me and then slowly closed the door and came near me, "is everything ok, Bhai?" she was worried.

"Annie I want to ask you something about Geet" I said.

She giggled, "Then why did you call me Bhai, you can always ask her"

I knew she would say this, "no Annie I want to ask you, will you tell me?"

She looked at me thoughtfully, "I will if I know about what you ask"

I sighed and pointed her to sit, she was confused but sat down, I looked at her and then at the box of engagement ring and said "Annie, why did Geet agree to marry me?"

Annie was annoyed, she said, "What type of question is this, Bhai! Everyone has to get married someday, and then why not marry your friend's bro."

"Is that what she told you?"

"No, it is my own presumption"

"Be serious Annie, look at me; what am I? A nearly cripple man" she interrupted, "Bhai" I stopped her, "do not interrupt, look Annie, I am your bro that's why you do not see my flaws, but Geet, she is beautiful, charming, witty, intelligent and talented. She is someone who can easily get a good match. She can get anyone far better than me. And she accepted me, an almost handicap, only graduate, so easily. Why, Annie? WHY??? If she has done so as she feels sorry for me, then we still have time; all this can be stopped."

Annie looked at me with shock, she for few minutes was rendered speechless; she either did not know or did not want me to know the reason, finally she said, "Bhai, I think you should talk to her about this; and you are true all this should be stopped NOW!"

I was surprised that she too agreed with me.

She further said, "You need more time, I will just tell Maa about this and call Geet to answer your queries" she left without waiting for my answer.

I was left alone, Defeated.

After 30 mins or so Maa came in; she sat near me and held my hand in hers and said, "I can understand Maan, but this is only engagement not marriage, you can always say no if after knowing her you feel that you are not right for her; and she too is free to refuse marriage"

I did not like this idea and said, "Maa will is not be bad if either of us refuse after engagement; what is the harm in calling this engagement off"

She looked at me and then at the door, I followed her gaze only to find Geet standing there looking as beautiful as ever.

Maa left the room and Geet came in, she closed the door slowly and came near me, she smiled and said, "I agree with your Maa, let us give it a try, and moreover this function is just at family level, no one other then the Handa's and Khurana's will know about it; if either of us decide to back off we can; give yourself as well as me a chance. Maybe we can click"

She is really bold and down to earth practical; I just nodded and she commanded, "so why don't you get ready and BTW how I am looking?" she smiled.

"Mind-blowing" I said. She flashed another of her bright smiles.

The ceremony was small with only families; the ring exchange was followed by dinner.

Later my father, said, "So, Geet why don't you join our office until your marriage"

Her father said, "it is a good idea, but don't you think others will not be comfortable with the future Mrs. Khurana working with them"

Geet interrupted, "I don't think it is a good idea, just because I am the would be bahu of this family I should get a chance to work with the firm which is so strict about appointing even a peon"

Maa said looking at Papa, "yesterday you only you gave an ad announcing few vacancies"

Papa confirmed it, "yes, Geet why don't you apply for one of the posts and as the interviews are to be conducted by our senior staff, if you will be selected it will be purely on the basis of talent. And we will not tell anyone about your relation with the Khurana's."

Everyone agreed to it.

Later she applied for the post of architect cum secretary to the MD of KC; she thought that Papa was the MD, lest she knew that it was me she has to work with.

Now readers must be thinking that why such a post was created, it is because of me, I am a very strict boss, and short tempered also as far as work is concerned. My secretaries never even are able to survive even a month. So Papa decided to create such post where he need not fire the employee every time I lost my temper, and after some time when I finally cool down he or she may resume the secretary's job meanwhile working as architect.

Now when she applied I was not aware that she will go for this post.

Not to say she fared well and got appointed; I was not there when she was given her duties, so neither she nor I knew that we will work with each other.

On her first day she arranged everything has been told.

I arrived t sharp 9:00 am everyone stood up and wished me, as I entered my cabin I collided with someone, I balanced myself and the other person and as I was about to shout, I stopped on finding that the person was no one but her, she was in my arms her eyes closed and fear evident on her face;

I was lost in her, she slowly opened her eyes and straightened herself on seeing me, she smiled and then with a little annoyance said, "What are you doing here in MD's room? You better go to your cabin before he comes." she frowned with her hands resting on her waist, she looked so sweet, so eatable, I checked my thoughts and turned to find rest of the staff looking at us.

I shouted, "you all are not paid to stand here and waste your time, ALL BACK TO WORK" within seconds everyone left leaving she and me alone.

She was still frowning, I stepped in her direction slowly, she stepped back, finally she was trapped between me and the wall; she sighed and I smirked.

She finally said, "Maan, do you want anything? Your father will be here anytime, why don't you go to your cabin before he comes; what will he think on seeing us together?" she pouted.

She looked so innocent and so adorable, I cursed myself for even thinking about refusing to get engaged, until she decides to leave me she is my fiance, "what do you think I am? And what do you think you are?" I asked in a stern voice.

She looked at me quizzically and said, "You are Maan and I am Geet"

I wanted to laugh at the way she said, but I gave her a thoughtful look and said, "that's true, but in the present scenario, I am the MD of KC and you are secretary to MD, so that makes you my personal assistant, isn't it what secretaries are?"

She gave me a shocked look, "but when I applied I thought"

Before she could complete I interrupted and tucking a strand that was dancing on her cheek behind her ear I said, "that you will work under Papa, so sad but if you think that you will not be able to tackle with my mood swings and strict ways of working you can quit, because during office hours I will completely forget that I am totally smitten by your charm, I will treat you as I treat all my past secretaries. You still have time you can refuse" I challenged her.

She looked at me with her mouth a little open and after a minute she said, "I will not quit and I too will forget that I am your fiance, but will work only as a secretary cum architect"

I gave her stern look, she became conscious, I smirked, "then why are you wasting time, go bring my coffee and today's schedule"

She nodded and left to be back with what I asked her for.

She was an efficient worker, dedicated to what she did; I never had to say twice about anything, she was just perfect as I have feared just too perfect.

As Days went into weeks and weeks to month, she completely attuned herself with the office working, she was loved by all and praised by everyone. She never gave me any chance to shout, but still I shouted on her many times, not because she had been wrong, but because I had been irritated.
