I know if I had things my way, the world would be a better place made out rainbows and chocolates and sarcasm. cause we both know, talking is not fun without sarcasm.

m. ..pls write soon ..if ur mood allows ...:p ...
I guess you have learned the tricks to please a moody one. With story, I write the ending to a track and work backwards so might take some time. How have you been holding up this holiday season? At this point, my alarm sings carols. Too much spirit😆
Take care

I bet we would get alone darn well in person.

You dont want to hear me sing. I mostly use my voice as a shotgun when I wish to leave a question unanswered. People get distracted easily when they cant tell if I am talking or singing😆

I think I found my niche. I like dialogues. Say, are the characters differentiated enough for you to understand the conversation if I leave out the he said/she said i.e. put in the quotes without explictly stating who said what. I like flow but cant pinpoint if the reader gets my vision. Let me know

I woke up with my head buried in pile of CDs, my forehead marked crimson. The layers of black and yellow beads stinging my throat. I had a cotton mouth. I pushed open the necklace, its pieces fell on the floor and each bead drop reminded my of my mistake. What had I done? I picked up the pieces trying to make sense of my nave action. He lay on the floor with a flowery veil covering his face. I rushed to the washroom to wipe of any reminiscence of scant act in the temple. I rubbed my scalp several times but the sindoor left a mark. How would an outsider know? I convinced myself that the patch could just as easily be mistaken for a bruise. I sighed and went to check on Rishabh.

"Rishabh, are you aware of what happened?"

"Yes", he punched his temples. "We are graduating in two months. Let's hold off the news till the ceremony". He walked toward my shower. "Hand me towel and I will freshen up".

Had this man no vision of the consequences we were about to face? I gave my towel before he put on a strip tease show.

"You applied to National Law in Mumbai, right? Thande thande paani se", enquired while still in the shower.

"Yes, I got the admission letter".

"Great, we will move to Bombay".

"I can't. The scholarship does not cover rent".

"That's why you have me", he stepped out of the shower wrapped in a towel.

I looked up at the ceiling and stated, "I didn't marry you for the money. I was not in the right state of mind".

"Then, consider it a job and me, your boss. You can't leave me with a gold digger. Get to work".

"What do you mean?"
"Pretend to be a Kundra till my daddy hands me the business reigns. By then, you will be a lawyer and can even initiate our divorce".

"I need some time to think it through".

"Too late. I put a ring on you last night".

"Get out".

"Here is your job description", he stated ignoring my last remark. "Act like my girlfriend on campus unless I say otherwise. That way, the moths will stay away. To my mum, you are her bahu, okay? I will take you down to meet her later today. And, I will be of help to make Louie jealous or whatever else you want".

"Louie doesn't concern me anymore".

"Looks like we have ourselves a deal".

"I will go outside now. You follow in ten minutes. I do want to be seen leaving the building together. I have a rep to maintain".

"You are my girlfriend and wife".

"We just got together. Stick to the script".

I popped my head out and looked side to side. He rested his chin on my head and imitated my actions.

"Stay inside", I whispered. Rishabh tried his damnedest to show that this was all a practical joke to him. One that could be undone with ease.

___________________________________________________________________

We walked, hand in hand, to the end of a long hallway. Many pairs of eyes following us.

"Dude, you and Madhu?"Rishabh's friend jumped from a nook.

"We are together now", he held our hands up.

"I always knew you had a thing for her", the friend squeezed himself in the space between us.

"I did not have a thing for her. She had a thing for me". Rishabh dismissed any accusations that went against his status quo.

"Whatever you say", the friend taunted. "I am Aakash", he offered a hand shake.

"Madhubala", I returned the greeting.

Louie walked toward me but, turned away as soon as he saw Rishabh.

"Your mother is in town. She told my mom she was going to meet the local priest or something along those lines. She wants to see you though".

Rishabh broke a sweat at the thought of his mom finding out before he told her.

"Ahem", he swallowed his saliva. "We will go tonight".

"Meeting the parents already, wah wah", he winked and paced out of reach before Rishabh could grab him.

_____________________________________________________________________________

We arrived at the Kundra mansion. Rishabh reminded me that he was back to his old self now that he had me in control, whatever that meant.

"You two should be ashamed of yourselves. This marriage charade, this is illegal. You are not of age yet Rishabh", a woman dressed in a designer sari stomped her high heels across the floor.

"Mom, this is Madhu", Rishabh pulled me in, close to his body, "my wife".

"What on earth were you thinking?" The woman put her hand out and her entourage rushed to find her inhaler. "You have got me all stressed out. I understand girlfriends but, a wife? You are barely out of high school". She turned her attention to me. "You, what are your intentions? Money, is it? Or fame? Or both? Better yet, stupidity". I wiped away her spit that settled on my eyelid.

"Mom I love her", Rishabh tried his puppy dog look on his mother to no avail. I guess she had developed immunity to his blackmail after having cohabitated with the ultimate drama queen, young Kundra.

"This fairy tale image in your head is not true. This is far from love. It is all a dream". Believe me, I know. I have learned the hard way that you can either have false affection or brutally honest money. You can't have both.

Out of nowhere, Rishabh and I received an unwelcomed, tight slap across our faces.

"This is for being naive", she brushed the creases on her outfit. "Come talk to me when I have calmed down". Mamma bear cat walked her way out of the room.

"What, m, mom, I, wa…..You cannot be serious", Rishabh jumped up and down trying to absorb the shock that hit him. Literally, it hit him. I am sorry, that was just funny. He felt his id forcing him to take his frustrations out at someone and of course, he chose me.

"If I utter a word against your rebel self, you attack with an army of profanities. Now that mum took a strike at you, and I, you stand here smiling? Earlier, I doubted your sanity. Now, I am sure that you are an asylum runaway", Rishabh was inching closer toward me; his elaborate hand gestures depicting his astonishment.

I acted as though a spirit had taken over me. I gathered all my upper body strength to cage his flinging arms and said, "if there is nothing else I have learned from eighteen years of dwelling on this earth, I know that mamma doesn't hit you often. When she does, you turn the other cheek. Cause, you lucky bas***d, mamma is always right".

I made my way to the balcony before he could see the storm welling up inside of me. I missed my mother and today, in that bigoted Kundra house Madame, I saw a glimpse of her. Moments later, a maid-servant entered with a telescope in hand.

"Young Miss, a telescope for better view of the stars. Young master says it will help in astronomy", she bowed down and took her leave.

"Don't think I am doing you any favours", Rishabh entered displaying his proud smile. "This is for respecting my mother. Plus, I thought your broke ass could use some help in the upcoming astronomy test".

"Thank you, kind sir. Now, if you would excuse me, I would like some peace", I asked him to leave.

"Sophistication, when did that happen?"

"Sarcasm. If you had read your literature books, you would know".

"I can just bribe the teach to get an A, why bother with the studying part?"

His condescending attitude toward education is what sprung my dislike for him. "For those of us who are actually willing to learn, could you spare our kind souls Mr. Kundra?"

"Since you ask so nicely………..", he whistled his way out of the balcony leaving me & my loneliness to gaze at the night sky, trying to connect the missing pieces of my existence.
