The four of them came back home later that night. Veera was very weak and all she wanted to do was sleep. She fell asleep in the car, so Virat carried her inside to her room. Jeevika went to go cook dinner for her while Viren and Virat were upstairs. She went upstairs after sometime and woke Veera up. She sat on the bed right next to her feeding her. Veera barely ate as she had no appetite so the three of them just helped her go back to sleep. They were still not ready to accept that Veera only had a few months, but they knew all they could do was make her happy and pray for a miracle.
jeevika - "Viren, I think i'll leave now. I'll see you tomorrow okay?"
viren - "Why don't I drop you? Its quite late and i don't trust the area around your apartment"
jeevika - "How will you come back then? Virat can't leave Veera alone. Don't worry i'll be fine and i'll call you as soon as I reach okay?"
viren - "I love you"
jeevika - "I love you more"
Viren came closer to her and gave her a small gentle kiss on her lips. Jeevika blushed and then drove back home. As soon as she entered, she called Viren and told him she reached safely. She then decided to call her parents up and tell her about Viren. They knew she was with some guy, but she hadn't told them about Maya, so they still thought she had a boyfriend. As soon as she broke the news to her parents, they were very excited. They wanted to plan the wedding right away, but then she told them about Veera. They comforted her and told her that they were willing to help out in anyway possible. She then got a call from Viren.
jeevika - "Hey, are you alright?"
viren - "Yeah, just want you with me right now"
jeevika - "I was just with you like an hour ago Viren. Anyways hows Veera feeling? She's sleeping right?"
viren - "Yeah, she's asleep. Virat's sleeping on the couch in her room"
jeevika - "Okay, so I just told mom and dad about our engagement"
viren - "Really, what was their reaction?"
jeevika - "They were excited and wanted to start preparations already, but I told them we have to wait a little. Have you told your family yet?"
viren - "Yeah like Veera would let me. She messaged everyone in India already and I just got off the phone with them. They were all happy to see Veera's excitement"
jeevika - "I bet, okay love I have to go sleep now. Early morning class, but I'll come meet you tomorrow okay"
viren - "Okay good night, love you"
Jeevika went straight to bed, as Viren went to go check on Veera one more time. He just sat on the bed with Veera and Virat both asleep. He thought about all the stuff he needs to do, and decided that he would have to talk to his boss tomorrow regarding his job. Viren went to his room and opened his laptop. He went to his email and started writing to his boss on his current situation, requesting he needed to step down from his job. As soon as he sent it, he tried going to sleep. Viren woke up early next morning to see his boss's email in which he said that he could take as long as a leave as he needed. Viren was relieved now, thinking he can take Veera to her doctor appointments, classes, and everything else she needed.
Veera woke up the next morning with the biggest smile on her face. She was so excited that her brother was finally engaged. She wanted to do something special for them two, like send them away for a few days. Veera was on her laptop sitting on her bed, trying to find some cool places nearby.
viren - "Ms. Veera Vadhera, how about eating something first, then going on the laptop"
Veera quickly shut down the laptop not wanting Viren to see what she was doing.
viren - "What are you hiding from me? Why did you shut the laptop so fast?"
veera - "Because I felt like it. Bhai I need to go to some shopping, tomorrow's my first day of class"
viren - "Okay, eat breakfast and then we can go. I'll call Jeevika along also"
veera - "Oh really, I thought it could just be the both of us going, you know brother and sister. Gosh bhai, you're inseparable from her" she said smirking
viren - "Oh really Veera? As far as I know you, you probably already messaged Jeevika to come"
veera - "Gosh, why do you know me so well" she said getting her clothes out from her closet
viren - "I'm going down. Come fast"
Veera went to quickly shower and she went downstairs. As she was going down the stairs, she started loosing her breath as if she had been running a marathon. She knew it was probably all because of the chemo and medications she was on. She slowly walked down to see something she always hoped to. Viren and Jeevika were sitting in the family area. Jeevika was sitting on Viren's lap and they were laughing. Veera just stood there in the back, as they both couldn't see her. Seeing them made her forget everything else in the world, especially her cancer.
veera - "Goodmorning"
jeevika - "Goodmorning Veera, how are you feeling"
veera - "Quite amazing actually. Thanks for coming, I can't wait to get everything for my classes"
jeevika - "No problem. Trust me I know what you need now. Well your brother and I both do since we went to the same place. Are you nervous at all?"
viren - "Veera and nervous? You've got to be kidding. I'm nervous for the other kids and professors with her"
Veera hit her brother "Very funny bhai. Can we leave now?"
viren - "Can you eat now? Jeez always in a rush to do what you want to"
veera - "Yeah yeah"
Viren went back to the kitchen and brought out a plate full of food for Veera. Veera just stared at it and it made her nauseas. She started getting red, and Jeevika moved the plate right away.
jeevika - "Viren let's do one thing. You guys go to that office store, and I'll be right back. I'm going pick something up for Veera which will make her feel better. It's often hard eating such foods after such a heavy chemo session"
They soon all left for the shopping. They went in one car and Jeevika let Veera sit in the front with her brother. As they both entered the office supply store, Jeevika went nearby to get Veera a 32oz fruit and veggie smoothie. She decided to get one for herself and Viren also. She walked back to the store Viren was at and handed one of the smoothies to Veera who seemed to enjoy it much more.
veera - "This is soo good. What's in it?"
jeevika - "All green vegetables and some fruits? I"m going to make Viren make this for you every morning now. It's really healthy for you"
Viren just smiled at both of them. He was so glad that Veera and Jeevika got along so well.
viren - "Veera check your list, is there anything else you need?"
veera - "Nope, I think I'm done now"
jeevika - "How about we all go watch a movie, enjoy the last day before your college starts?"
veera - "Yes, let's do that. Or actually can we go home and watch a movie?"
viren - "Why are you okay? Are you having a body ache again"
Veera just stood silent because she knew her brother would catch her lying if she denied anything. Jeevika didn't want Viren to get mad at her so she tried changing the topic.
jeevika - "Yeah, anyways its too cold outside. Let's go rent a movie come on Viren start the car"
Viren knew Jeevika's intention.
viren - "Do I look like you driver?"
veera and jeevika say at the same time - "Yes"
They both high fives each other and laughed. Veera sat in the back this time letting Jeevika sit with Viren. Veera texted Virat making sure he had done all the arrangements she had asked him to. He responded and said everything was done. As soon as they got home, Viren carried all the stuff inside following Veera and Jeevika. Veera took her stuff upstairs to her room wile Viren and Jeevika stayed downstairs talking. Just then Virat came inside Veera's room.
veera - "Bhai, did you make the reservation also?"
virat - "For the hundredth time, yes Veera"
veera - "Okay, sorry!" she smiled
They both went downstairs and Veera handed over a box to Jeevika.
jeevika - "What's this?"
veera - "Something for you"
Veera dragged Jeevika back upstairs to her room and Virat took Viren to change.
jeevika - "Veera, what's this all for? And why are you making me change?"
veera - "Because you're going somewhere. I had got this dress for myself, but it will look better on you. Change fast"
After another 20 minutes both Viren and Jeevika were ready.
viren - "Now can you tell us what's going on?"
veera - "Let's just say Virat bhaiya and I wanted to kick you out of the house for a while so we're sending you away. There's a driver waiting for you outside and just go with where he takes you okay? All you have to do is pay" she said smiling really bright
jeevika - "But Veera we don't want to go anywhere right now. We'd rather sit here and hang out with you"
veera - "Nope, because of me you guys couldn't even celebrate your engagement. So now you have to leave. Okay no more of talking, go now. Byeee"
Viren just smiled at his sister and took Jeevika's hand and left.
