Chapter 1
Khushi waited for him to speak a word, or at least look at her, but he kept his gaze on the road ahead.
She sighed at the man beside her. After shifting her base to Delhi a year ago, she had joined in the company and started her own life fresh, without anyone to interfere. She was glad that she was alone. She could do whatever she wanted to do. Though she missed her family, it was the best way to be.
Never in this one year her husband came to her or even talk to her regarding her wedding. Not that she wanted to be with him, but they needed to think about a lot of things if he decided to be with his girl friend. She couldn't waste her life on him. He would call her, at least once in a month, and talk to her about everything. They would meet up every weekend. She would go to him and call their families. They would talk to them together and let them know that they were happy with each other in order to keep them all, especially his mother, happy and healthy. That was all they shared with each other.
Lavanya, in fact, was a nice woman, she would say. She liked the woman as a friend. And it made the things difficult in her life. Her friendly approach toward Lavanya made her feel insecure. Lavanya thought that she would get her husband back at any cost. That insecurity of hers created distance – not between her husband and her – but her childhood friend and family member and her.
He would come to her flat whenever their family visited them. She hated it when they needed to share such kind of hidden relationship and increase their hopes. This was going out of hands by each passing day. On the other hand, she had been attracted to the man who was beside her.
Arnav Singh Raizada…!
The man turned her life upside down. He was a team leader back in the head office and came to her branch on a special project to lead her team, three months ago. He would stay there as long as the project completed and it was not even started in the real sense till date. And the problem was, he was a gentleman and that only increased her attraction, pulled her toward him. The knowledge that he was having same kind of pull for her made her heart restless. She needed to do few things in order to have a decent life of her own. She had to solve the most pressing matter. She took her mobile out of the bag and typed a message to her friend – husband.
Need to talk to you right away… I am not going to take any reasons tonight. See you in my flat in an hour…
She then turned to the man and asked, "I am waiting…"
"What do you want to know…?"
She stared at him for a while, unable to take her eyes off him. "What do you want from me?" she asked, yet again. She needed him to speak. She knew his answer would increase her pull, but she couldn't help herself. She was feeling very alone and she needed support in her life. She needed a person on whom she could lean on – a person who wouldn't hurt her feelings, but listen to her words before concluding about her character.
"You don't want to hear that, Khushi. Leave it…"
He parked the car in the lot of her apartments and looked at her, with same intense in his eyes. "Coffee…?" she invited him and smiled when he refused it immediately.
"You do know what I feel for you and yet inviting me to your flat."
She nodded, while getting off the car and walked along with him up to the elevator, "I think I trust you enough."
He laughed at her words, and she longed to run her fingers on that lock of hair that always fell on his forehead. "Don't trust a bad guy, Khushi" he warned, "you will regret later, for inviting me."
"Come," she signaled him, "I need a person to talk with."
While she was unlocking the key, she saw an elder lady from next door eyeing her and she sighed inwardly. Khushi was always irritated with the woman's constant questions about her personal life. She would ask about her husband and family and that she never saw her husband frequently. Khushi asked many times to not ask about her personal matters in a very sensitive way she could ever manage. She said that her husband would travel lot and would return late nights and leave early mornings. But the old woman she was, never got the clue and Khushi started ignoring her presence.
"Who is that lady?"
She heard him and rolled her eyes, "no one…" and made her way to the kitchen, knowing that he was following her.
"Make yourself comfortable…" she said while putting the gas on and mixing the ingredients, and keeping on the other a bowl of milk to boil it. She made herself settle on the platform, while he just leaned, his right foot crossed over his left.
"How old are you, Khushi?"
She raised her brow for his question, "26… and what my age has got to do with coffee?"
She watched him as he stared at the boiling milk, deep in his thoughts, and on the next moment, he was in front of her, his hands sneaking around her waist, as he put off the gas.
"Don't ever invite me in this way, Khushi, or else I am not responsible for whatever happens between us. Ask me to leave, right now…!"
Khushi closed her eyes as tears formed. She wanted her life. She wanted him. She could feel desire in her. And so she stopped herself. It was desire and nothing more. She was still someone's wife, and she would never have any sort of relations with other man. "I need some time, Arnav" she whispered, gripping his collar with her hands, "I need to be free from this bond and then, I will be yours…"
