Veera got ready by 1:30 and she left the house to go to the doctors. She was really nervous, but she knew she had her big brothers with her. As soon as they parked, they saw Jeevika at the entrance. Jeevika tried her level best at not looking at Viren. They all walked in and Jeevika went to go talk to some nurses while the other three were waiting behind her.
jeevika - "come on Veera, let's go inside this room"
Soon the four of them entered the room. Veera was sitting on the patient bed while the other three were standing. There was an awkward silence in the room.
veera - "You know I'm not dead yet, I mean I'm sure i'll have a few more months to live so no need of this silence"
viren - "Veera shut up right now. How dare you say that"
Before Veera could respond the doctor walked inside. She was a tall lady who seemed a little old.
Dr - "Hi my name is Dr. Chen, and I'm guessing you're Veera?"
veera - "Thats right" she said smiling.
Dr - "Nice to meet you. Before I do a check-up, do you have any reports with you?"
veera - "Yeah I actually do"
Veera handed over the report to the doctor who was looking through all the paperwork, from the blood tests to the medications she was on.
Dr - "Thank this will help me a lot. Now a few questions for you. Do you experience body aches on a regular basis nowadays?"
veera - "More of headaches and dizziness. And yes it's becoming more frequent"
Dr - "What about your appetite? Do you tend the eat full meals"
veera - "Actually. uhmm"
Dr - "Go ahead and tell me. There's nothing to be afraid of"
veera - "I tend to throw up after almost every meal. Its hard for me to digest anything"
Dr - "Okay no problem. So this is what we're going to do. I'm going to send in a nurse whose going to take a few blood samples. And then I will take a look at the results. We want to give you a session of chemo as soon as possible, so lets schedule an appointment for tomorrow morning. We will be giving you a high dosage, so make sure you eat a big and healthy meal for dinner. And let's plan on doing it at 8 tomorrow morning. So make sure you don't eat anything after 8 pm tonight, just liquids. I'm sure Jeevika will take perfect care of you and let you know everything else"
viren - "Thank you doctor"
Dr - "No problem. I'll see you guys tomorrow okay?"
The doctor left the room and pretty soon the nurse came in. Veera was really nervous and scared of injections and Jeevika could sense that.
jeevika - "Actually if you don't mind, can I take the sample?"
nurse - "Sure, i'll get you a pair of gloves"
The nurse went outside and gave Jeevika the gloves who was washing her hands. She put the gloves on and went towards Veera. Veera closed her eyes and held onto Viren's hand. Jeevika quickly took out three samples of blood. Veera just smiled. She was so happy that Jeevika was here with her. Jeevika handed the nurse the blood samples. Then the four of them walked out.
veera - "Bhai, today is my campus tour at 4:00. Will you please drop me there right now?"
virat - "Veera are you mad? There's no way you're going"
veera kept on looking at Viren as she knew he could never say no to her.
viren - "Veera I think its better you go home and rest. You're going to have a heavy chemo session tomorrow and I don't want anything to happen to you"
veera - Nothing will happen. I promise"
viren - "No veera, not today"
jeevika - "Uhm how about I go with you. I'm actually going back there right now. If she starts feeling unwell I'll drop her back at your place"
viren - "Thats nice of you, but it's okay. I'll manage"
Veera then went to Viren's ear and whispered something to him.
"This is the perfect time, you should come too and she'll talk to you"
Viren just smiled at his sister.
viren - "Okay fine, but then I'm coming along also"
veera - "Aww man" she said in a sarcastic tone. She was glad Viren was going with her plan.
jeevika - "Okay lets go. I'll take you in my car if Virat has to go somewhere"
viren - "Thanks"
Viren sat in the passenger seat next to Jeevika and Veera sat behind them. She was trying to think of ways to get them to talk to each other. Jeevika turned the radio on, and the song We Found Love by Rihanna started playing. She looked over at Viren and then back at the road. She was about to change the station when Veera stopped her.
veera - "Can you please it on? I love that song."
Jeevika let the song play. Veera knew the reason why Viren and Jeevika looked at each other. This was their song. This was the first song they had danced together to. Veera remembered her brother telling her through Skype how he went to this party and met a girl. They both danced on this song and had a really great night. Little did she know that it was Jeevika, since her brother always hid the name from her.
veera - "Jeevika how are the girls dorms? Are they big?"
viren - "Veera, if you think you're going to be staying in a dorm, you've lost it. There's no possible way and we need to talk to your counselor. I don't want you taking that many units the first semester especially if you're going through chemo"
veera - "That's not fair, I came all the way from India to study at my dream college. And now you won't even let me do what I want?"
viren - "Veera, there's no point in arguing with me. It's my final decision. Get that straight in your head right now"
veera - "But bhai"
viren - "No veera"
jeevika - "If you don't mind can I suggest something? My roommate is going for an abroad program for a year, you can stay with me if you want?"
veera - "oh my god, that would be soo amazing. Now you can't say no to that bhai"
viren - "Yes I can veera, you're staying at home with me and Virat. I'm not letting you out of my sight, you get that?"
Veera knew her brother and that he'd eventually listen to her. They soon reached the campus.
jeevika - "Let's go pick up your schedule first, then I'll show you everything"
The three of them wet to admissions first and got all the paperwork. Jeevika was looking at her different classes.
jeevika - "OMG you have a lot of the same professors I did my first year. Don't worry I'll give you hints and tricks on how to handle all these classes. Come let me show you the arts and humanities building first"
The three of them spend time all over campus. Viren and Jeevika already knew the campus really well, but they wanted Veera to feel comfortable. Veera started getting a headache after a while, and Jeevika suggested going to her apartment for a while. The there of them went inside. Viren was holding Veera's hand.
jeevika - "Here you can put her on my bed. Let her rest a little"
Viren helped Veera inside Jeevika's room. Both of them covered her with a blanket at the same time. They just looked at each other, with no words. They left the room and went back to the main area and sat on the sofa. Viren had his hands covering his eyes. Jeevika went to the kitchen to make two cups of coffee. She came back and handed one cup to Viren. As Viren was drinking his coffee, he saw the photo up on the wall. IT was of him and Jeevika. It was their first official date where Viren had taken Jeevika on a carriage ride at the beach.
