The stars are not entirely favourable for Ektaa Kapoor right now. The soap queen who recently lost her creative producer Sandiip Sikcand to a channel is now facing the biggest challenge in her career. And it comes from Smriti Irani.

Smriti has set up her own production house and has tied up with Kumarmangalam Birla's company. Interestingly, Smriti has sealed a deal for their first soap with a private channel, the creative director of which is Sikcand. Till not long ago, he was one of Ektaa's closest associates. After his shift, Ektaa — the largest producer of soaps in the country — decided not to supply any programming to that channel.

But Sikcand got lucky."I have known Smriti for a long time and when she narrated this concept note. I immediately locked it," he says.

Smriti is clever but it will be a bigger challenge for her to recreate the same popularity as Tulsi of Kyunki. Most people in the country identify with her as Tulsi only and any split up if at all between Ekta and Smriti will be equally damaging for both. I don't think that Smriti should leave Kyunki at all becasue that is therole which has made a hallmark in her career.

The thing is that it is easy for people to erase the image of a screen role of an actor/actreess of cinema, but the cults created on TV through these soaps come to stay.
