This is my reaction to Barun's "not-a-clarification interview," interview... 😉
This is a logic based post, please don't expect an emotional ode to Barun.
I was not one of the fans who called SP because I thought Barun was having major family compartmentalization issues that he took to work. Talented, but an amateur nonetheless in the world of showbiz. His innocence which is normally so cute actually backfired on him.
Becoming that successful actor he was on the way to being takes major sacrifice. Look at the time SRK (the only non-filmy/well-connected guy to make it) spent with his wife at the beginning of their marriage to now. He makes family priority and marries her in 1992, but family time only became a priority once he became The SRK. Hence, the late family life with Aryan in 1997. It was not accident. Barun, lacking experience and good mentors, didn't know how to handle his success. His innocence led to major misunderstandings all around.
I made a post about it objecting to Gul's vilification and Barun's personal decision when the rumors and theories started. I left the forum since but today's interview compelled me to write because Barun's regret is sad to watch. Clearly, he has done great work and deserves the praise and love of his viewers. I adore him as ASR. But if only his wife understands him because he took time out for her, only one thing is certain - Barun is having major PR issues speaking in his own language. Clarification being his major weak point 😲
End of the day, the truth is that he was so good that the show and all jobs associated with it got jeopardized when he wanted time with his family and time off to promote his new movie. Now the TV world and his friends there are seeing him as unprofessional for not finishing a job. Their confused reaction is natural even when they are supportive of his dreams and wishes. The PH of course made many a blunder. There's no winner in this situation because you hear the regret in Barun's defensiveness. In the soap world, the Amar Upadhyas do not get remembered as Mihir, but the Ronit Roys do as they finish the job. And even the Ronit Roys have to fight to be in films. All's well that ends well as they say.
Yes, ladies, you have to put the responsibility on him a little, can't just adore him and excuse all faults because he's a cutie pie. He's not a little lamb/kitten (though he may look like it sometimes 😆). He's an adult, married man, aged 28. Some of this "blame"/responsibility lies on him as an actor who is not only a husband, but a professional who is part of a team and responsible to his viewers. If he didn't leave for movies but conveniently is doing movies (congrats!), then he left for movies a little. It is only human. At the end of the day, everyone, PH, SP, BS were in over their head with IPK's success.
And SP was only saying that he wants to leave on the disclaimer to appease the zealous fans who were calling them, abusing the customer service agents, demanding answers. They weren't trying to hurt him, they were making an unprecedented move because you gave them unprecedented feedback. It was all good! You did your part as a viewer by saying no BS, no show, and they did their as the bosses by axing the show to make you happy. They were just telling you they tried by making better offers to him but he would like to move on. They have to respect his wishes as his contract ended.
I am not accusing Barun or turning on him after all his hard work. I adore him. He has done an outstanding job and made a great show. But he soured it is a bit at the end, costing him many professional relationships for prioritizing other ambitions over the very job that enabled him to become famous - IPK. His tone about soaps hinted at that for a while when he talked about soaps as only solid income. IPK was more than just a soap, he never caught on to that phenomenon by staying down-to-earth.
I doubted for a while whether other soap producers would want to risk their projects with him but then, he doesn't want to be in soaps, so let's hope he never has to. Gul handled his back-tracking very graciously and let him go, preserving her dignity. She also took the brunt of the fans' wrath for creating a master-piece that was her baby - IPKKND. Yes, the quality went up and down, particularly during the kidnapping track but they still put out a show for you five days a week. Let's not forget Sanaya's contribution here. This is why Sanaya AND THE REST OF THE CAST supported GUL to the last day. Thankfully, Gul took it as high praise that she did such a good job that people actually got this emotionally attached. I think the people who vilified (not criticized) her now owe her an apology. NOBODY deserves to be called a "bitch" like she was for her own show. The PH can take a lot of blame for quality but no one deserves to be cursed like she did. Don't forget, she brought IPK to you in the first place and set such a high bar that you expected more of her.
That is all I have to say about Barun's most recent interview now. And before I am accused of being a CV or Gul herself - I am not Indian and I live about 12,000 miles from India. Your thoughts on my post are most welcome. I know my views here are not part of the majority but I have always loved our discussions.
