You all owe AN APOLOGY to Gul

By "you" I mean the people who called her names. Not everyone. On the other hand, as a viewer, a congrats to the same zealous fans who shut down the show. I am watching old episodes of the show and it would have been unbearable to see Arnav die and kill the cutest love story that ever was. Arnav had too hard a life to not end in happily ever after. Now...

This is my reaction to Barun's "not-a-clarification interview," interview... 😉

This is a logic based post, please don't expect an emotional ode to Barun.

I was not one of the fans who called SP because I thought Barun was having major family compartmentalization issues that he took to work. Talented, but an amateur nonetheless in the world of showbiz. His innocence which is normally so cute actually backfired on him.

Becoming that successful actor he was on the way to being takes major sacrifice. Look at the time SRK (the only non-filmy/well-connected guy to make it) spent with his wife at the beginning of their marriage to now. He makes family priority and marries her in 1992, but family time only became a priority once he became The SRK. Hence, the late family life with Aryan in 1997. It was not accident. Barun, lacking experience and good mentors, didn't know how to handle his success. His innocence led to major misunderstandings all around.

I made a post about it objecting to Gul's vilification and Barun's personal decision when the rumors and theories started. I left the forum since but today's interview compelled me to write because Barun's regret is sad to watch. Clearly, he has done great work and deserves the praise and love of his viewers. I adore him as ASR. But if only his wife understands him because he took time out for her, only one thing is certain - Barun is having major PR issues speaking in his own language. Clarification being his major weak point 😲

End of the day, the truth is that he was so good that the show and all jobs associated with it got jeopardized when he wanted time with his family and time off to promote his new movie. Now the TV world and his friends there are seeing him as unprofessional for not finishing a job. Their confused reaction is natural even when they are supportive of his dreams and wishes. The PH of course made many a blunder. There's no winner in this situation because you hear the regret in Barun's defensiveness. In the soap world, the Amar Upadhyas do not get remembered as Mihir, but the Ronit Roys do as they finish the job. And even the Ronit Roys have to fight to be in films. All's well that ends well as they say.

Yes, ladies, you have to put the responsibility on him a little, can't just adore him and excuse all faults because he's a cutie pie. He's not a little lamb/kitten (though he may look like it sometimes 😆). He's an adult, married man, aged 28. Some of this "blame"/responsibility lies on him as an actor who is not only a husband, but a professional who is part of a team and responsible to his viewers. If he didn't leave for movies but conveniently is doing movies (congrats!), then he left for movies a little. It is only human. At the end of the day, everyone, PH, SP, BS were in over their head with IPK's success.

And SP was only saying that he wants to leave on the disclaimer to appease the zealous fans who were calling them, abusing the customer service agents, demanding answers. They weren't trying to hurt him, they were making an unprecedented move because you gave them unprecedented feedback. It was all good! You did your part as a viewer by saying no BS, no show, and they did their as the bosses by axing the show to make you happy. They were just telling you they tried by making better offers to him but he would like to move on. They have to respect his wishes as his contract ended.

I am not accusing Barun or turning on him after all his hard work. I adore him. He has done an outstanding job and made a great show. But he soured it is a bit at the end, costing him many professional relationships for prioritizing other ambitions over the very job that enabled him to become famous - IPK. His tone about soaps hinted at that for a while when he talked about soaps as only solid income. IPK was more than just a soap, he never caught on to that phenomenon by staying down-to-earth.

I doubted for a while whether other soap producers would want to risk their projects with him but then, he doesn't want to be in soaps, so let's hope he never has to. Gul handled his back-tracking very graciously and let him go, preserving her dignity. She also took the brunt of the fans' wrath for creating a master-piece that was her baby - IPKKND. Yes, the quality went up and down, particularly during the kidnapping track but they still put out a show for you five days a week. Let's not forget Sanaya's contribution here. This is why Sanaya AND THE REST OF THE CAST supported GUL to the last day. Thankfully, Gul took it as high praise that she did such a good job that people actually got this emotionally attached. I think the people who vilified (not criticized) her now owe her an apology. NOBODY deserves to be called a "bitch" like she was for her own show. The PH can take a lot of blame for quality but no one deserves to be cursed like she did. Don't forget, she brought IPK to you in the first place and set such a high bar that you expected more of her.

That is all I have to say about Barun's most recent interview now. And before I am accused of being a CV or Gul herself - I am not Indian and I live about 12,000 miles from India. Your thoughts on my post are most welcome. I know my views here are not part of the majority but I have always loved our discussions.

Res
i wud never apologize gul nd her ph...
She herself lost interest in dis show wich was evident frm last few mnths...never promotions were taken place...we got promos once in mnths dat too for 19-20 sec...wereas other shows receivd promos wich were damn apealin wid time duration of 28-29 sec...
Never costumes for leads...she herself fueld speculations wid posts dat of zee news...also as a producer when she was blamd...she didnt cum out clean...nd kept addin fire...
I ll gve u example of producer like rajan shahi...who held a press conferance for replacement of his actor mohnish behl...who left for health reasons..
He regularly conducts interviews o his shows...same goes to ekta kapoor...balika vadhu ph...anandi has also left for movie but she is gven her space wid dignity...mahadev is promoted so heavily...its banner is seen in every prominent mimbai statione...nd in BKC...wich is very costly for banner area...
Dilse dia hua soubhagyavati...heroine too quit...bu she was been exited with party ...
BArun was truly made a scapegoat for every damn reason

But I do blame the PH completely...
For the absolute lack of interest in the show?
For the truly senseless tracks, and the pathetic execution of the same?
For posting on their website that the show has run its course
For leaking out the news of Barusn quitting through Zee News instead of giving a professional press realease?
For trying to address the allegations against them through the silliest of video interviews instead of doing things professionally?
Sorry...for me IPK was just going down the drain, and it was almost fully due to the PH. See you need to be more invested in your product, if you want it to last. And it was clearly not...unfortunately the fans were far far far more invested in their product

I was not addressing the quality of the show which I have said numerous times was going down the deep end for a long time now. The decision however should have been to end the show with all the main characters intact and there the PH has to take the blame.

Well not just the bad quality but the absolute lack of professionalism. Who leaks news of actors quitting onto a forum!!!
And not a single official comment about anything ever...even though they claim to be so connected to their on-line fans.
The only official communication being that the show had run its course.!!!!!

Thank you for making this post! I was reading through the various posts & couldn't decided where I wanted to post my comments.

I feel that Barun's lack of PR skills have truly shot him in the foot. He has not been able to handle this situation from day 1.

If this had been a normal situation, he should have said I'm taking a break from TV and will pursue other projects at a later time. Right now I would like to take some time for my personal life. And he should have walked away.

But this was in no way a normal situation. Everything got out of hand. People were bombarding SP offices demanding they retain him. And SP was right "How can we retain him, if he wants to leave".

I love your statement regarding SRK! Getting to the point that SRK has achieved takes a lot of sacrifices. When you achieve stardom you have a lot of responsibility that comes with it. It can not just be about you & your personal life. You do owe the viewers a clear cut explaination about why your leaving the show.

Look at Amitabh Bachan. He has been in the industry for 40 years and always makes a point of meeting his fans outside of his home every Sunday that he is there. He knows without his fans he would be nothing. He has always balanced his personal life, career & fans with such grace. He realizes that fans are a part of him and who he is. There is so much fame within his family and they have always worked together to be a united family.

And here Barun is stating that his family is upset with him that he hasn't been there for them? What did they expect when he joined the indusrty? A 9-5 job? And he is in his late 20's, if he doesnt work now as a lead hero, then when? He used to always maintain that his family supported him unconditionally. At least with a TV show you get to remain in one city. With movies you never know how often you have to travel for shoots. Once again I will point out another celebrity who balances family & career, Akshay Kumar. He makes so many movies in one year where he is traveling all over the globe, but that's what sacrifice is within this indusrty.

I do wish Barun the best but I'm not sure if he's cut out for this indusrty. He needs to buckle down and figure what he wants and learn how to address the media. Being in the spot light isn't always pretty and you need to learn how deal with the good & the ugly.

I don't think I ever called her name, but I know that initially when this mess broke out, I questioned her intentions. Thus, I for sure owe an apology to Gul.

And more than anything, I think Barun needs a PR manager asap. I feel bad for him. This whole mess created so much trouble for him and his contradicting statements are really responsible for it. I really wished that he had spoken up when the whole fiasco started stating that, "I'm sorry, but I'm leaving due to personal reasons." That simple statement would have avoided this whole mess and conspiracy theories. And the worst part is, this may have strained his friendships.

As far as the show ending is concerned, I have mixed feelings. Like you, I'm glad that I didn't have to see Arnav's death. It would be too much to bare. But at the same time, I loved IPK. I miss that show now. And more than that, I wanted IPK to continue for other team members who wanted to be part of the show. But alas, it's ruined because of Barun's PR blunder (not his decision to quit the show) and we blamed Gul, PH, and SP! :(
