REVIEWS: Bari Aapa HUM TV Full Drama Review
Actually, I had decided to give this one a miss, simply because it reminded me of another HUM serial (Bilquees Kaur) that also talked about an arrogant woman.
However, the positive word of mouth on Facebook changed my mind and I ended up watching seven episodes of Bari Aapa in at a go, and I have been glued since then!
This is the story of Bari Aapa, Zubaida (Savera Nadeem), who, gets to make all the decisions. She dictates everyone (husband, brother, sister) on how to live their lives, leading to people despising her.
The story takes a quick turn when her sister-in-law decides to stand against her. Additionally, the bigger storm comes in the form of a saukan (Ayesha Khan) when her husband Farmaan (Nauman Ijaz) is found to have married another woman.
The story on paper sounds simple. How many times have we seen such stories unfold in front of our television? Trillion times! But, this one has something different. There's too much going in its favor.
This HUM TV production has great acting, amazing screenplay and topnotch direction that result in a breathtaking product. Samira Fazal might not be a strong dialogue writer, but no one pens down a screenplay like she does. Whatever unfolds on your screen is so fluid you want to continue watching. The twists come up at the most unexpected moments taking the serial to a higher note. This is among Samira's most accomplished works till date.
However, I found a few blemishes in the script department, but I should rather ignore them. The pros seriously overtake the cons in this one.
Saife Hassan has already proven himself as a director, and here he excels once again handling everything like a pro. The toughest task for a director is to keep the suspense going and extracting strong performances out of the actors, especially when there is melodrama on screen. Saife Hassan, fortunately, gets it right. There is not a single dull moment in the narrative. The strong script is perfectly balanced with his amiable direction.
The editing is perfect; however, I have no idea why they have 'Dil e Nadaan' as the OST. The composition is nice, but it just does not sync with the mood of the serial. Additionally, can anyone explain why Savera is wearing the same outfits throughout the serial? MD Production always dresses its actors well, here something went seriously wrong.
As for acting, everyone gets author-backed roles and prove why they are the best at what they do. A heavily-pregnant looking Savera Nadeem pulls off a rather complex character with such ease that all you can do is glare at the screen in awe. Her transition from a loving mother/friend to a sturdy woman is so brilliantly portrayed on-screen. It is difficult to imagine anyone else in this role now. Bravura performance!
Noman Ijaz plays the underdog superbly. It is one of the better male lead characters on screen. He gets a lot of screen time, but the character never takes central stage, which I liked. It is good to have such underdog characters. Exceptionally well played by Noman Ijaz.
Ayesha Khan is in a supporting role making sure she makes a good use of the opportunity she gets. The actress surprisingly looks good with Noman Ijaz matching steps with biggies. She hasn't lost her marbles. Great performance, Ayesha!
Arjumand Rahim brilliantly portrays her character that has gray shades. She is likeable, even though she plays a negative role. Jibran has to improve. Fahad Mirza (Ayesha's cousin) has a lot of potential that someone needs to unearth.Madiha Rizvi (Riffat) gets a very nicely written role that has a lot of potential, and she sinks her teeth into it. The actor who plays Ghazanfar is in perfect form. The rest of the cast (including the daughter) does well.
Over all, Bari Aapa is easily among the most happening dramas on screen these days. Too bad the cable strike and other such things affected its rating and it never got the due share. Make sure you give it a try. The serial will surely grow on you. It has everything; superbly crafted characters played beautifully by talented actors thanks to a marvelous director. Recommended!
Rating:
I would've given it a **** rating only if the OST was more apt, and it was better promoted. You might disagree, but in our industry OST gets to decide a lot.
