Malaika steals the show

Malaika Arora Khan started a storm with her dance number Chaiyya Chaiyya from the film Dil Se a few years ago. Now, the model-turned-actress is back as the judge on the second season of Nach Baliye. She was well-received by the audience and we asked her how it feels to be back on the show again, judging star couples as they try to make the best moves?

"Nach Baliye is a very special show for me. I did not even think once before agreeing to the second season because the show is so unique in content and format. More importantly, getting so many celebrities on one platform, for their dancing abilities and not acting, is another feat. Therefore it feels amazing and it's a lot of fun. I will definitely miss Farhan as he was part of the show last year, but I am sure Kunal will do complete justice as the judge," she says.

Ask her who her favourite jodi is on the dance show this season, and she replies, "I have never seen any of these jodis perform before. So it would be unfair for me to comment on any of them, before I see them." The classy lady who is married to Arbaaz Khan adds that there is no question of favouritism, since her role as a judge demands her to be fair and just.

Malaika claims that she has not gone in for any makeover for Nach Baliye 2, and says the only change for this season is the absence of Farhan Akhtar. The filmmaker is currently busy with his film Don. However, praise her about the stylish outfits that she adorned during the first season and she smiles, saying, "I am sure my outfits this season will be applause-worthy too. I do not want to reveal too much, but there will be a nice mix of clothes — Indian and international. I will not deviate from my choice of costumes as I have a very diverse taste and there will be something definitely to look out for!"

The first episode of Nach Baliye 2 airs on September 25 and will be facing competition from another celebrity dance show Jhalak Dikhla Ja on Sony, which has become very popular already with the audience. Actress Shilpa Shetty is judging the show, along with filmmakers Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Farah Khan. Malaika says that competition is always healthy and it always enhances the quality of work that is displayed.

During season one of Nach Baliye, there were some "weighty" issues about the star couples that were a drawback for them. Malaika points out, "Weight definitely does affect movement and posture, but what I feel is that a healthy combination of great dance moves, chemistry and effort can make any dancing couple look great. It would be incorrect to say that fat people cannot dance as we have great people on the plus side who can move with stupendous energy and grace. Last year, Delnaz Paul was extremely graceful. Even Ganesh Acharya, the Bollywood choreographer is so agile. In my opinion, it's not the body structure but the style, grace and flexibility that matters more."
