The Lorn Cupid

Chapter 01

Her chest, pounding like a dryer load of army boots, she knocked the noise-mark off it's cradle, the three enormous digits, 2.45 on the clock beside the bed, assaulted her eyes;

"Hello?"

the voice on the phone was a little bit deep and croaky, at least she thought it was croaky for her very often; but she tried to be staid, not to be worried. She knew who it was of course, but she waited until those staled words come out over the phone; and yes, indeed they did.

"Khushi...Kumari...Gupta..."

The voice said with a pause between every word, as it got no reply but a nix from the other end. In the next second he was rewarded with an answer.

"Singh Raizada...speaking...I can't engage here all day you know? I have my own business to be looked on to.. now say it.. "

"What...? What did you just say, about a business? Look.. I.."

"okay...I am hanging up..."

"What the..?"

"hell..." Khushi completed him. This had happened before, so that it did not rather surprise or made him nappy but he was certainly angry for a certain extent.

He was prospecting that answer of course, he had to, for nearly two weeks from the day of their lope-sided honeymoon.

"Don't spoil for a fight Khushi Kumari Gupta...I..."

"Are...Singh Raizada...aap har bhaar kyun bhool jathe hain?"

"..I think somebody has forgotten what he said this morning. It wasn't me for sure...is it you Arnavji?"

"Oh just shut up Khushi! I didn't call to hear your yap. Di's phone is engaged and i know she is not at home. When she return tell her that the documents are ready and to call me up sharp at 4.00...and by the way..i did't lose my bid; I never did mention about phone calls...remember...? If you can't ...that's not my problem. I never lose Khushi Kumari Gupta...don't even think about it"

"What?"

Not good...he had hung up already before she say anything more.

"Uss laad governerki toh"

Khushi understood that her words were of no earthly use, so that she decided to savore the warmth of a jalebi while thinking how surly and abhorrent, arnav was, for her. He was, for the rest of the world except for his family, excluding her, his "wife".

The mirror on to her left caught her reflection, the image reminded her that youthful spirit was living in a mortal shell. She cocked a snook at Arnav's face on their "couple photo" hanged on the wall by Di,ofcourse, ignoring their unhappy faces, 3 days ago; for her own merriment. She couldn't do that before him, face to face, so this was the best and the easiest way of expressing how she felt about him; and then she kept on finishing her jalebi while "her rakshas" was looking at her from the photo.

***************************

Khushi did not want to throw up the sponge and quit. She really wanted to be quit with him as soon as possible. She was snubbing Arnav since 2 weeks now, and tried to be perverse with him and prank him, but it was really a waste of time. She was a sort of crank pot with daft for sure, and ofcourse being with her, Arnav had started to adjust her blabber and persky.
She and Arnav; contended, prated, fought, yelled, laughed, smirked...they did evrything possible to eachother. The cupid had done some magic to their hearts, but they tried fighting over their feelings always, and be the same personals they were before. But the destiny had decided something else for them already and the only difference was, they were unaware of it.
