Hero Hitler in Love, a Punjabi comedy about a man with an explosive temper, and the Hindi film Gandhi to Hitler, a sympathetic portrait of the dictator's last days (Gandhi once wrote to the Fhrer), came out last year. A soap opera, Hitler Didi—or "big sister Hitler"—is a hit. Bal Thackeray, the leader of a far-right Hindu party who recently died, professed admiration for Hitler.

Thanks for sharing this article. It was an interesting read. I found the last few lines of the article quite appalling though: "The bottom line: The popularity of Hitler is rising in India, reflecting the national attraction to strong leaders."
Is he crazy? Either people in India don't know who and what Hitler was (a cruel dictator who prosecuted many) or they equate dictators with strong leaders?? Or the writer of this article is just making things up!

Agree completely with you on the bold part! The term "Hitler" is being misused by people in India, particularly by the Indian popular culture. They should get the facts about the real Hitler right before even mentioning his name in public. Generally speaking, Hitler's name is synonymous with evil here in Europe and probably in most parts of the world. People should think twice before naming him a national hero.
