Actors and actresses have been going under the knife for various reasons since time immemorial. Whether it be botox, implants, liposuction, collagen or plain corrective surgery, it's pretty common to use the method to enhance a feature for the sake of beauty and longer-lasting features for stars from the industry.
But the real question lies is whether they truly have a choice. Everyone wants to be more beautiful or handsome in some way or the other, and like regular people, even celebs should have a choice if they want to make such a decision. But if a celebrity seriously considers the repurcussions of taking or not taking such a step, they land up in a real soup.
Very few stars admit to going under the knife. And those who do, can never live it down because the audience questions their thought process and infers that their beauty is not natural. And then if there are those who may need to get something done but decide against it due to the flak of the audience, they would be under constant scrutiny by fans and audiences alike regarding certain features that they may need to work on like weight etc.
In Hollywood, many actresses have openly admitted to having gotten surgery. This trend is slowly picking up in India as well. With Kamal Hassan's daughter Shruti admitting to getting a nose surgery due to health reasons, Mallika sherawat admitting to implants etc. Farah Khan has openly admitted to her tummy tuck. We are also reminded of Rakhi Sawant's words in a popular celebrity chat show where she said, "Jo Bhagwaan nahin deta woh Doctor deta hai." (That which is not given by God, is given by the doctor). She herself has admitted to going under the knife several times.
There is nothing wrong in getting surgery, but as we know things in Bollywood are rarely done in moderation. Most people who start going under the knife just continue it due to its convenience and ease. Just how much is too much? Where should our celebs cross the line?
Finally, we can't forget that celebrities, especially those in Bollywood serve as primary role models for people young and old today. With celebs not admitting but endorsing such practices, will it not affect the audience to take it on themselves?
A lot of actors and actresses do get surgery done, but don't admit to it. Some want to but can't.
Do they have a choice? Where should they stop? And is endorsing such practices a good idea? What is your opinion?
