*CHAPTER 5- THE WEDDING*
Arnav watched with bated breath as he saw Khushi reading his diary from a window and sighed with relief as her face took on a confused expression and she stormed out. Obviously, his best-friend-turned-love had not understood anything... He would be glad if she found out, but he wanted to do it in his style...
-FEW HOURS BEFORE WEDDING-
Khushi sat with her books open, not able to concentrate. She felt the sudden urge to talk to him. She grabbed the phone and punched his number. He picked it in two rings. "Hey Geek!"
"Whatever Hastings! So, what are you doing? You free?" she asked.
"Yeah sure. Tell me..."
Oh shit! What was she supposed to say... nothing, I wanted to talk to you about...about NOTHING?! She looked around and saw her math book.
"Oh. Right. I have a doubt in Math. You, being my senior can clear it for me..." she said.
"Ok...Will try... What is it?" he asked.
OH great! Damn! Damn! Damn! She hurriedly opened the book, and said the first question she read. "How do you prove that...um..." SHe asked him the first question she read. OMG! That was probably the lamest question she could have asked!
"Trig, right?" he asked, smirking to himslelf.
"Yeah..."
He began to explain it to her, while Khushi was just listening to his voice...
-THE WEDDING-
Khushi gulped, as she looked at herself in the mirror...Was she going a little overboard? Sighing, she walked up to the door of the guestroom at RM and locked. The wedding had probably started already, and here she was looking like a miniature version of Manorama Aunty...Oops...Now Mami...
She removed her lehenga, and pulled out a little bit of mirror work she thought was unnecessary. She took of the heavy gold necklace, and put a simple gold chain with a ruby locket.
Better...she thought... With the mirror work gone, it looked better...She only hoped that Anjali Di would not remember that this was the dress she had picked the other da, saying 'Chhotey' would like it... Nyah! She wouldn't remember... Then she left her hair loose and put one simple red clip to the left side of her hair, as it hung over her left side.
Arnav looked around the crowded house, feeling utterly bored. His eyes searched the crowds until he finally saw her...Their gazes locked as the innocent hazel eyes looked into the naughty chocolate brown ones. As he took in the sight of her, he was mesmerized, would be an understatement... She looked GORGEOUS! The way her creamy skin contrasted to the rose red that she was wearing, and the way her hair swayed as she descended the stairs was just...OUT OF THE WORLD... As if in a trance, he walked to her, reaching her just as she reached the foot of the stairs. No make up, to cover up and her hair looked lovely. He wondered why she did not leave it open all the time. He took her hand and took her towards the mandap where the wedding had just started, muttering "Di and Shyam Bhaiyy-I mean Jijaji must be waiting..." She let him lead her, feeling herself blush for no reason...well, for reasons only known to her...!
Anjali looked around for her brother, and Shyam for his sister. Finally, both entered at the same time into their elder siblings' line of vision. Anjali's eyes widened with surprise and amusement when she saw Khushi's dress. So she had bought it afterall... She leaned towards Shyam. "Hey, where'd she get that dress..."
"Oh That...After shopping yesterday, she claimed that her dress did not fit her and went to exchange it. She had gotten this instead. Why're you asking?" he whispered.
Anjali giggled in satisfaction, and told him of her convo with Khushi during their shopping session. Shyam shook his head...
"THIS is boring. BIG TIME." Muttered Khushi, as she sat away from the crowd.
"You look pretty by the way..." she heard his husky voice. She looked up and smiled. He was standing there, with his hands in his pocket.
"Thank you."
He sat next to her and whispered. "Did you know red is my favourite colour..."
Unthinkingly, she replied. "Yes."
"Is that why you wore it...?" he asked softly again.
Still unthinking, she said "Yes." in a dazed manner. Then her eyes widened. "I mean, no!"
He smirked, yearning to touch her cheeks which were now turning red. "They why?"
She frowned. "Why? What do you mean WHY... I found this piece cute, so I wore it..."
"Oh really?" he asked, inching a little closer to her.
"Y-Yes" she said...
He took her hand in his and leaned closer to her, deciding to have a little fun. He watched in amusement, as she closed her eyes, and wanted to peck her on the cheek so badly (they are 15-16 remember? So lip-2-lip ke liye time lagega) But instead, he whispered, "Have you done your Math HW?"
Her eyes snapped open, and her mouth formed that cute little 'O' of hers. "What?!"
"Math HW Geek! You called me few hours back with some doubt, remember?" he asked.
"Oh! That! Yeah...Thanks for your help!" Khushi said.
She was just SO ADORABLE When she was flustered! He thought...
So the evening passed, with Arnav being playful and misheivous with a bashful Khushi.
-AFTER WEDDING-
"Change in plans ShyamJI" Anjali said, huggig Shyam in their room.
"What?" he asked wearily.
She told him.
"Are you sure it's gonna work?" Shyam asked, feeling unsure about his wife's filmy ideas. He wondered whether he should be doing this...Wasn't an elder brother supposed to be AGAINST such things?
"Of COURSE! When they are locked ALONE in a room, sparks MUST FLY!" Anjali said.
Shyam shuddered... SPARKS MUST FLY!
"Okay RS!" he said, hugging her closer to him.
Khushi lay in her bed, staring at the moon. Would she be able to complete the challenge day after tomorrow? She would have to gear herself up... She gulped, and tried to fall asleep. For her, it meant nothing, but what if it DID mean something to him? Even if he DID love her, what she would do the day after tomorrow might make him think that she doesn't like him THAT way, and would forget all about her!
Hey DM! Why is life so hard...!
