Laughter on track

Star One is very serious about making its viewers laugh. After two seasons of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, now The Great Indian Comedy Show returns renamed as The Comedy Show Ha Ha Ha... The Comedy Show Ha Ha Ha, marks the beginning of a completely new epoch in television comedy with its look, script, and performances. Apart from the regular ensemble cast which consists of the most talented comics in the country including Suresh Menon, Purbi Joshi(Dhustika), Sonia Rakkar(Kukurmuti), Suchitra Pillai, Howard Rosenmeyer(the lanky foreigner) this new season will see the entry of laughter champions, Raju Shrivastav, Ahsaan Qureshi and Sunil Pal, in never-seen-before hilarious new gags designed around their oddball characters. Besides these jokers, new entrant, Purab Kohli, Gaurav Kapoor and Rakesh Paul, will also regularly treat you to their outrageous brand of stand-up comedy. Every episode opens with a quick menu, segueing into the opening montage with the host of the day taking you through his stand up monologue, with witty one-liners on current events from the world of politics(Sonia Rakkar also play Sonia Gandhi with her Italian accented Hindi), sports, business, and of course, Bollywood! The show will also feature exciting new formats like spoofing the never-ending soaps on the idiot box! Every day, you can tune in to Panvati, the story of an unloved ugly duckling who will one day transform into an equally ugly, unloved TV soap actress. Purbi who plays Panvati says "Keeping in mind the general atmosphere of soaps, you will see me crying most of the time but I will be draped in sarees costing between Rs 50,000 and two lakhs. I have to wear expensive threads, as I come from a very rich family". Kikku as Bimal Jalalbadi, will eep you in splits with his spoof on the dangerous looking bearded anchor of Sansani, the crime show aired on STAR News. Kikku said that because the show was generating a spike in crime rather then controlling it, they decided to spoof it. Gaurav Kapoor said that this show really addressed the problem of dumbing down on the audience, by even telling them when to laugh. Sunil Pal who plays a whacky news anchor, Ratan Noora, declared that he is very happy to be a part this show, as it will allow him to really experiment with new varieties of stand-up comedy and gags. In Laughter Challenge, he could not try out different costumes and so he could not really show his inner talent, which now he promises to unleash with all the gusto.

Gaurav Gera, returns as super man in season two, as well, the only difference is that he will now wear a lungi. "My character will continue to be a pain in the neck, instead of helping people, he ends up getting himself into a mess. Asked as to why the name was changed, Gaurav said that people were getting confused between the Great Indian Laughter Challenge and the Great Indian Comedy show, so the change.

Ashwin Mushran who plays the character of Chuna babu, a fixer, who claims to know everybody and actually knows nobody, said that the new series will incorporate all the positive gains( best of sketch comedy and stand-up formats) from the old series and will see some changes as well i.e. The earlier 350 odd episodes ad more English, which was driving away many viewers hence this time, the dialogue will be mostly in Hindi.

Suresh Menon will spoof a current hit movie, classic film or a genre on the last Wednesday of every month, in his Ratan Re-imburse avatar; and will deliver his take on the movie, introducing the key scenes of the movie in his trademark TCS way. Suresh felt that at a time when the country is going through so much crisis, bomb blasts and deluge, comedy is necessary as it provides the much needed emotional relief. Another regular of the show, Ranvir Shorey will be seen as Master Mony, an overgrown kid with soda-bottle spectacles who has the knack of asking celebs very embarrassing questions. Not to mention his inappropriate obsession with Mallika Sherawat.

So gear up for The Comedy Show Ha Ha Ha, a show with a new set of tools to tickle your funny bone. And no matter if you're 6 or 60, film critic or a potato trader, where you are or who you are; buckle your couch-belts lest you fall off in a fit of laughter. Happy laughing.
