Soon after Chandrabindoo act, Nachiketa Chakraborty, one of the most popular singers in Bengal, put in a very entertaining performance. Nachiketa, who is inspired by Lata Mangeshkar on the one hand and Che Guevara on the other, peppered his songs and speech on love, relationships and politics with a lot of humour. "In each of these entertainment is important, but there should also be commitment, seriousness and honesty in what you communicate. If you are honest about what you want to say, people will like it. They can see it in your eye," says Nachiketa of his style of performance.

Renowned film-maker Shyam Benegal presents his bio-epic film based on the life of Subhas Chandra Bose. The film depicts actual historical events related to the life of the freedom fighter. Shyam Benegal has roped in actors like Sachin Khedekar, Rajit Kapur, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Alan Thomson, Nicholas Chagrin and Udo Schenk for the film. The film is produced by Sahara One Motion Pictures. For a grand and sensitive movie as such, the music should be well built and replicate the theme. For this purpose A.R.Rehman and Javed Akhtar has been accredited the responsibility of the composition. There are 7 songs and 13 theme scores that comprise the soundtrack.

A resounding and verbatim inspiring patriotic track is 'Aazadi' sung by A.R.Rehman himself. The theme is on the desire of freedom from the captive of the Britishers. The chorus and the composition make it an effectual track.

The legendary track 'Kadam Kadam Badae Jaa' once again springs back to life in this film. The song is based on the chorus of Vijay Prakash and the Mumbai Film Choir.

The Bengali track 'Ekla Chalo Re' composed by Rabindranath Tagore also forms a part of the soundtrack. The song is based on a Bengali-Hindi crooning by Nachiketa Chakraborty and Sonu Nigam. The renditions leave you breathless and the composition is just mind-blowing along with the lyrics of Javed Akhtar.

Another chorus song showcasing the involvement of the freedom fighter and his associates is 'Hum Dilli Jayenge'. The song adds to the fervor and enriches the flow of the music so far. It has the punch and the zeal that gives a true reflection of the episodes that had taken place.

A soft and soulful track is 'Desh Ki Mitti' with wonderful rendition by Sonu Nigam and Anuradha Shriram. Rich in melody and words the song unfolds patriotic zeal from the hero himself.

Another such enlivening track is 'Zikr' by A.R.Rehman, Rafi, Rakeeb and Shaukar Ali that hints at the musical cadence and insight of the composer. This is a great work of art by him.

Another Hindi-Bengali track is 'Ghoomparani' by Sapna Mukherjee and Satyanarayan Mishra. It's a touching lullaby and a very pleasant track.

As mentioned earlier, the soundtrack has 13 theme tracks. A conventional and rhythmic track is 'Durga Puja' which glimpses at the zeal of the festival. The other theme tracks include 'Netaji Theme', 'Afghanistan Theme', and 'Emilie Theme' appearing in two parts, 'War Theme', an instrumental of 'Kadam Kadam' and 'Desh Ki Mitti', 'U Beat Theme' and an orchestra based National anthem 'Jana Gana Mana'. The theme tracks are exquisite, holding their due importance and appearing rich in melody.

A.R.Rehman deserves another applaud for doing something, so refreshing, so original and so superb. To compose music for such films with historical relevance is a mammoth task and his efforts spark through. The music squeals quality and superiority. The audio may not have many takers, but on this account the appreciability of such kinds of music doesn't diminish!

Ekla Chalo - I've never been a Sonu Nigam admirer. This one made me. Classy Vocals leading to a high pitch and you hear the quick run of piano keys as the pitch comes down. Though the tune seems very similar to a song which I couldn't identify the mix of bengali lines by Nachiketa Chakraborty made it to the top.

his jiban mukhi songs were really gud. he still has lot of gud albums to his name. but once or twice he recorded some albums tht had really bad lyrics. by bad i mean is really abusive and profane.

Pregnant time has its toll on my inner self. The self in me saturated with subtle sequences over the passage of time, having its footprints on my skin. Although I was born in an ambience of singing with my mother and elder sister crooning sweet nothings, the faculty of singing in me encountered a hostility of dimensional horizons. The self got dissected with pangs when I discovered an incompatible relationship with music and the turbulent times. So,my psyche' was torn between traditional sleep-inducing Bengali songs and the percussionist protest of the youth on the other hand.

An urge to resurrect was developing that records the protests. Contradictions in my milieu left a deep impression that honed my skill to represent the exact expression of the generation next who did not feel at home with melodies that swayed the ears of the Bengalees of the previous generation. So my search to create a composition for the growing generation consolidated. No doubt, I felt a passionate feeling to make my composition based more on rhythms and beats.

So,the turbulent time has its toll on me.I tried to break the traditional lullaby type Bengali song composition with more colloquial hypes that preferred the lips of teenagers and invariably the metallic lyrics. However I did not forget a nugget of my search that Rabindrasangeet was played for a cocooned band of listeners and as such it did not reach the masses who had a different perception of troubadour(folk)lyrics. As it happened,I also sang Rabindrasangeet for a rickshaw puller or a fisherman in an isolated village.

My experiments with reality in realm of Bengali songs made me a little bohemian in nature.But suddenly,I had my dream come true when providence had it that a section of young college students invited me to sing for them with an offer of Rs 100 as remuneration. That ended my quest for a liberation of Bengali song from its melodious past and no wonder I became a singer with my own effort.
