Evolution...

A year and a half ago - we met Mr. ASR. Ruthless business tycoon, whose first encounter with one Khushi Kumari Gupta ended in a scene that was gripping and disturbing. An innocent girl was pulled, pushed, twisted, gazed at lustfully and finally the dori of her choli was torn. Whew! A year and a half later all of us are in love with the same Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada.

And yet during that very first meeting a switch flipped inside his mind. A mind that had been shut off for years. A mind that had decided that feelings were for the weak. Showing feelings was a form of cowardice. The only people who got through that impenetrable wall were his sister and his family. Khushi made the first dent in his brain, her tears stopped him in her tracks.

ASR fought back hard to repair that chink in his armor. He threw everything at it - he physically abused her, mentally put her through pain, emotionally put her through a wringer. And yet.. and yet.. he made sure she never was physically hurt. If she was in harm's way - he leapt in to put himself in front of her. And slowly things began to change in his life.

He was more aware of her. More mystified by this woman who occupied not only his waking hours but his dreams too. Even as he tried to stay away from her, he found excuses to be around her; if she didn't talk to him, it bothered him; the thought of her leaving Delhi for good, killed a little of him inside; when he suddenly found her again, his despair turned into anger.

The thought of losing her to another man brought him to a turning point. He had feelings. Arnav Singh Raizada finally evolved from ASR to a man who had feelings and acknowledged them. Yet still he fought against it, even as he could not stop himself from touching her, listening for her, looking for her smile.

Anger was his defense against her. She was frightened of his anger, and he used it to keep her away from him. Every time he succumbed to his need for her, he lashed out at her, over and over, until he realized that he was the one with the bleeding heart, that his cuts were a raw as hers were.

Once he realized that, he knew he had to back out of his engagement. He knew he had to do the right thing. He broke off his engagement to Lavanya. Free of his ties he could explore these feelings he had for Khushi, finally - as she had also broken off her engagement. He started giving in to them.. feelings.. the need to be with her, touch her, talk to her, dream about her.

For the first time, another person's views about him became important to him. He needed to know how she felt about him. He understood her, accepted her innocence and wanted more. He found himself doing things that he never would have done in a million years, because that Arnav had been chipped away. There were gaping holes in his defense system now. In fact, he was dropping all his defenses. He wanted her and nothing was going to stop him now.

But fate had other plans for him. A cruel misunderstanding brought it all to a screeching halt. He was angry at her and also at himself. He'd weakened to the point when his need of her was dictating his every move. But not anymore. He married her in anger and hate. He told himself it was for his sister that he did it. But it was never the whole truth. Arnav Singh Raizada reverted to ASR. He married her to keep her for himself. He couldn't live with her. But he couldn't live without her either.

And so began a relationship based on hatred once more. It was as if the feelings that ASR had begun to allow himself never existed. Every time they made an appearance, he trampled on them determinedly. Yet, he couldn't stop himself from wanting her. Every single time they came a little close, he lost a little control but then shut himself down again. ASR was back.

But the force exile to Gupta House once more made an impact on Arnav. He began realizing that money is not everything. Money does help, but the love and support he got from his in-laws helped him to start seeing his wife in a different light. He relaxed allowing those feelings in again. Allowing himself to touch her, hold her hand as she slept.

Soon came the realization that whatever had happened in the past, in the present there was nothing he could see to connect her to what he'd been told and what he'd heard. He was just about ready to give himself and her another chance. Because he wanted to. His heart had ached for her - as she told her mother of her dream prince. Arnav started making more of an appearance now.

But one small step was still needed. Unfortunately, before that could happen, Khushi woke up his latent fears of rejection. She threatened to commit suicide. The past rips open in front of his eyes again. He finally told her why he married her. And why she was capable of hurting him. He shut himself down again.

But even then, her nearness was almost always his undoing. Going to London would give him a break. But this time fortune smiled on him. At the airport, he realized that he needed Khushi in his life, no matter what had happened in the past. But before he could tell her all this, he was kidnapped.

It was the best thing to happen to Arnav Singh Raizada. Sitting in the dark, with only his thoughts for company, he realized that he needed nothing more nor less than Khushi. He loved her, and if he had to die, then he'd let her know how he felt. For the first time, Arnav articulated his feelings. For a man who didn't believe in love, it was hard for him to get the words out. But he did. He told her he loved her when he got the chance. And then, a few days later, he found that he wasn't alone. She'd come looking for him. She was in every way the woman he wanted in his life. He hadn't known it, but there she was.

For the first time he allowed himself to hold her in love. Hold her with meaning. All the past doubts and fears, insecurities and uncertainties were washed away with her tears. Just for a while, and then they were parted again. Once more, he put himself in harm's way, before the goons could get to Khushi. If he had to give his life for her, so be it.

When he finally made his escape it was with Khushi's help that he did so. But seeing her falling over the cliff, it was their life he saw flashing before his eyes. Finding her lifeless body was more than he could bear, and when she finally opened her eyes, he knew this was it. No more doubts, no more misunderstandings.

He'd brought her into his life with hate in his heart, but under that cloak of hatred, was a love that was pure and true. And he let it out. For now, he and Khushi could finally start their life together.

At each step, Arnav Singh Raizada back-slipped, and each time he got up stronger in his love than before. This time also, with all his intentions, he back-slipped. He once again held her responsible for his sister's mental condition. His sister who had always held the highest stature in his life. And poor Arnav Singh Raizada, once again his temper got the better of him. He said words that he regretted almost immediately.

From this point on - we see an Arnav who evolves rapidly. He has one purpose in his life - to keep his sister and his wife happy, in that order. With no role models, no predecessors, Arnav has to make those leaps himself. He stumbles and falls, he makes mistakes, he tries to apply his business approaches to affairs of the heart, he even goes to NK for advice.

Through it all, he keeps is focus on getting his wife back. There is never any doubt in his mind about his love for her, and he never doubts her love for him. He had to start understanding what his wife wanted, and how she wanted it, what turned her on, and what didn't. He had to learn the ways of the heart, and if he got in a kiss or two, so much the better.

He understood that she was innocent, but her desire for him was there just waiting to be fanned and he took full advantage of it. Just as he had to learn what being in a relationship meant to him, he had to teach her what he wanted out of it. He wanted her to be his equal partner. Marriage to him was still an institution that people believed in. What mattered was the heart of it.

With Dadi's coming in their lives, he discovered one more thing about himself. For too long, the family had ignored Khushi's place in the house. They had taken her for granted. But now he had to give her that status of the eldest daughter-in-law in the Raizada household with all the due respect and honor that comes with it. His decision to go through the marriage is driven by this. Khushi will get her status in the family and no one will question it. He still does not believe that marriage is a necessary thing - but if that's how society will accept them as husband and wife, then marry her he will.

Arnav evolves once more. This time as a man determined to give his wife her due place in society and in his house. He goes through each of the rituals with her. And through it all he makes time for her, time for them alone. Because he still can't get enough of her in his life. Living apart all of a sudden, he realizes the space she occupies in his life. He finds the loopholes in the traditions and uses them to his advantage.

But the rituals are overshadowed with his sister's health. Her miscarriage now comes to the forefront. His Di has always been the most important person in his life. But on that night, for the second time, he opens up to Khushi. He had already laid his heart and mind and body out for her. But finally he opens up his soul to her. He tells her of the past that has always haunted him, a past that has shaped him as a human being, a past that he had kept locked away and never spoken to anyone about, even though he and his sister shared the same past - they never shared this.

Arnav had changed, the little boy inside him came out. He had become a happier man, a man who slept without nightmares, a man who was ready to welcome life with open arms - a man whose life was Khushi. But his Di's state was something he had to take care of first and against his better judgement, he allowed Shyam to stay in the house. With both Dadi and Shyam plotting against him, he was in for the biggest challenge in his evolution.

His bachelor party was all it was supposed to be. He had the best time of his life. His wife danced for him, and then they spent time under the stars, alone together for the first time, able to give in to their passions and desires. And the Arnav Singh Raizada who would take anything he wanted, did not take the one thing he truly wanted - to make love to his wife. He couldn't - because he respected her principles and values. He would never make her do anything that went against them, and he deferred to them this time, too.

His Dadi's reveal of the past almost derailed him. While he never held Khushi responsible, he forced himself to look at the facts. And the fact was that his father was a cheat, his father was the weak one, not his mother as his Dadi always claimed. He had been right about his father all along. And that finally broke the shackles of his past. He came back in time to marry his love - a woman so trusting that she refused to move from the mandap, because if she did, he would feel his trust in her had been betrayed.

In the final evolution, Arnav steps back from Khushi as she reaches to wipe the blood from his brows. He knows that if he touched her, he wouldn't be able to finish saying what he had to say. He had to let her know - through it all, there was no doubt in his mind, he would be here to marry her. He had to ask her to marry him, but first his Di had to also be happy with his decision - and she was. For the third time he proposes to her, but this time a little differently. He wants to marry her - if and only if she wants to marry him too.

But there was still Shyam, and he had to go before the Singh Raizadas could be at peace. It was not an easy task, but finally with Khushi's plan and NK's help - they do it. He knows that his Di will be hurt, and it will have to be her who makes the final decision. And so Shyam Manohar Jha is finally handed over to the police.

The past is closed. Shyam is out of the house and their lives. They have been finally married with all the rituals. So now what's next for Arnav Singh Raizada? Has he evolved enough?

... and Devolution

But what happened at this point in the story? A very strange thing. Arnav Singh Raizada began devolving - into something that we can barely recognize.

First he wanted to take his wife out to the horse race. She resists, no horse race, no English movie. Finally, he settles for a Hindi movie, with the entire family in tow. In the theatre, he is unable to sit next to her, and when he finally does, he is unable to hold her hand. Now this is the man, who had no problems holding her hand and dragging her away from his entire family openly to spend time with her. And yet, he has problems in a dark theatre.

Then comes the head-scratching dialogue. 'I don't think you understand me.' He once again says he wanted to spend time alone with her. This from a couple who could sense each other's presence, hear each other's heartbeats and talk without speaking! Okay... I thought to myself, maybe they need to be far apart for all that to happen.

His interactions with his wife are almost tepid, if I were to be kind. It's like watching two roommates. Their hugs are platonic, there are no kisses, no intensity. It is as if, now that Arnav has Khushi in his life, he doesn't feel it necessary to steal moments with her, like any other newly-wed. And this is puzzling - for Arnav has always been portrayed as a man with very strong, intense emotions and passions and desires. So what happened to his libido?

And then it was his birthday. The day on which he was born - and while every year he did not want anything done on his birthday - this year was something special. This year Khushi was in his life. For her birthday, he'd tried hard to bring himself to say the words - Happy Birthday Khushi. He'd understood fully and finally what it meant to give a gift from the heart. So its' understandable that when it's his birthday, he'd expected his wife to make the day special for him. Something unique. Something dil se. He'd declared what he wanted - time alone with her. But Khushi had decided that since he didn't want to be made to feel special then she should abide by his wishes. So for breakfast he gets Toast, Karela for lunch and no dinner.

At this point - notice Khushi's dialogue - I change myself so much for you, couldn't you do this much for me? And he feels guilty! Where have I seen this before? Oh yes, with Anjali. This is exactly how Anjali manipulated him! When did Khushi turn manipulative? This is the purview of the Maliks!

The woman who held the highest place in his life was his Di. Today, Khushi is moving up that ladder very quickly. She is the one who holds as high as, if not a higher status in his life as his Di. He cannot say no to her. And so on his birthday, it is HE who has to make amends. HE has to be the one to do the making up - for her not understanding what he wanted for his birthday. The convoluted logic of this scene left me with very mixed feelings. But two good things happened - after a long time, I heard the ASR BG score and boy was I thrilled! And ASR has his SUV back, instead of the wimpy sedan.

And ASR finally got his gift. He got to have his Suhaag Raat. Sabr Ka phal meetha hua akhir. This was the gift that Khushi finally gave him - herself.

And now we have the introduction of the little boy. I don't know who he is - just as you don't. But let me speculate a little here. The little one is around 8-9 years old - let's assume 8 years old. ASR just celebrated his 28th birthday. Which makes him 20 years old when the child was born and 19 when the child was conceived - whether or not the child is his, time will tell.

The main turn-off for me at this point is this:

The love story of Arnav and Khushi was always supposed to be a story where the purity of their emotions was what took it to new heights. A love story that was intense and heart-wrenching. Where we watched a man named Arnav Singh Raizada grow in love - understand the meaning of love, fall in love and keep his vows to his love - no matter what came in the way. While his father was a cheat and had an affair, his jiju lusted after his wife, we understood his disgust and cheered him on... but him... we do not expect a past that brings a child with it. Through it all, Arnav and his purity of emotions is what kept us glued. Silly tracks, good tracks, bad tracks - we bore it all! But this! There is something unpalatable about this ... introduction - both the child and the mother. The BG music was the same romantic one used for Arnav and Khushi.

I'd like to quote my friend Redwine1(Ruby) who has in a few words summed up what I am trying to say here.

"For most of u guys who have interacted with me on this forum .. u will know i am a huge FAN of the "character" called Arnav Singh Raizada ... to me its an iconic character .. which Barun Sobti grew into beautifully .. to me IPK is all about Arnav Singh Raizada .. & his journey from a battered bruised sacrastic person to the REAL man who shed his outer skin .. the day he saw his "life" his wife .. fall from a mountain top .. his heart stopped with her .. & then when she woke up .. their hearts truly beat in tandem .. that was the divine love story ...

Through this all .. the man stood tall .. embraced his love fully .. to me arnav what we see today was always in evidence .. his love for his Di .. from day 1 was completely unconditional .. similarly .. the day .. over a phone call when Arnav said I LOVE YOU to KHUSHI .. he opened his heart to her .. since that day .. his love for her is unconditional .."

Where is that Arnav Singh Raizada today?

Hell...I didn't know there was a word called "Devolution"😲😆

Okay..Now coming to your post..you know that I agree with you...😉
I remember ranting during the whole kidnapping track...how the man has changed...he was barely recognizable...turned into some mushy hero overnight!!

But then as that track ended...I felt how the man has evolved in love!!He realized his mistake and he was out to rectify them..But in his own way!!

But what I see of him..TODAY or rather these days simply hurts me..because his was the only character in IPK that was pretty charismatic...had a huge depth and no wonder girls loved drooling over the brooding man he used to be..But not anymore!!I still cannot grasp what on earth made the dialogue writers come up with dialogue of the decade.."Hum aapke liye kitna badal gaye hain"!!😕Like really??!!I saw many posts defending the dialogue..saying Khushi's changes were "subtle" and "internal"...Maybe I'm too insensitive to see the changes in her..but all I see is a hugely manipulative woman..doing things and also wanting things to be done her way!!If that means hurting your husband on his first b'day after marriage..Such a faulty characterization..

But what hurts even more is the attitude of the mighty ASR in the whole scenario...The man was impatient...caring..passionate...and had a certain chutzpah that'd make anyone go ga ga over him..But what is he today??Merely a pale shadow of the former self!!Does loving your wife mean giving in to every whim...The man has changed to such an extent..that I look at him and barely identify him with the angry young man he used to be!!That passion lost in thin air..specially after the remarriage...apologizing to his wife every now and then...(I don't mind apologies that are justified..but the b'day apology...it's still beyond my ken as to WHY he apologized)...the man who couldn't keep his hands off her before remarriage..barely touches her!!What the!!

I can go on cribbing!!I don't connect with this ASR anymore..Nor with Khushi..The writers have messed up the characterizations to such a huge extent..that I really have no hopes left of getting back my old ASR..or old Khushi!!

I have given up on this show.BAS!!

Great post Madhu as always👏👏👏👏👏👏👏.
I agree that Arnav has evolved by leaps and bounds emotionally. You have captured his journey beautifully.
I however tend to have a slightly different opinion regarding his de-evolution. If I had to evaluate Arnav's behaviour with people important to him, I would say he displays the purest version of unconditional egoless love, limitless patience and underplays his devotion and his efforts towards the relationship. Nothing is too much for him if it brings a smile to his loved one's face. He has shown this trait when dealing with Anjali, he has shown this trait when he tried to make Khushi smile after his kidnapping fiasco.
He won Khushi after beating terrible odds. He knows/believes that Khushi is the pillar on which he leans emotionally and he will be lost without her. Somewhere he is also guilty about his past rash behaviour with her. In his mind he owes her for standing by him despite his misbehaviour, rescuing him after the kidnapping, saving his sisters life and exposing Shyam. He also knows that Khushi is childish, innocent and comes from a very traditional family. All these factors combined makes him treat Khushi with kid glove which comes as across as contrary to his character. I won't call it de-evolution but more as efforts of a guy who is trying hard to dilute his intensity and be patient so that he can fit into his wife's mold for husband. Sooner or later he will find it impossible and blow up.
From his perspective he wanted to spend time with his wife ...it did not matter if it was derby or a hindi movie...in fact if hindi movie made Khushi more happy and open to him, he was game. The plan failed because Khushi did not understand his intentions. Yes, he could have held her hand forcibly but I tend to believe that between the disapointment of failed plan and presence of tag-along family, anger at his wife's thickheadedness and jealousy at his wife's apparent preference at chatting with NK, his ardour cooled down and he was hesistant in taking any action. From his perspective it would have seemed that he was the only one pinning and he was somehow forcing Khushi into accepting his desires and Arnav has resolved never to force Khushi into anything.
As for the jalebi fiasco...the way Khushi retorted and the entire Raizada family got on Arnav's case...he felt that he might have been wrong. Once again his trait came into play and he selflessly made the efforts to make Jalebis without any ego. My only issue here was that he was not wrong, his wishes got lost in translation and once again Khushi did not understand his expectations. In fact I felt Khushi was extremely wrong when she took him to task and talked about changes she has made and expectations she had.
Raizadas practically treat Khushi as if she put moon and stars in sky and a miracle who tamed an ogre like Arnav. As a result the family rarely looks at the issue from Arnav's perspective more so because he does not share his perspective but decisions. They somehow end up siding with Khushi without meaning to. This gives Khushi confidence that what she is doing is right and she continues to behave as she has in past. It is a vicious cycle (Arnav's expectation-Khushi is oblivious- they fight- Khushi does not understand - Arnav feels guilty and maofies Khushi or vice versa- Khushi comes out stronger and Arnav is frustated but resolves to give in to Khushi even more) and honestly there are few people who can get through to Khushi and take her blinkers off- Garima/Shashi, Payal or an outside force. Payal rarely interferes, Garima and Shashi are not aware of the brewing discord ...that leaves the outside force which is where I believe the new entry comes in.
I am not very enthusiastic about the new track but if it serves to drive some sense in Khushi, I am all for it . I will take a cliched, illogical track (unless it becomes a major downer) anyday over the possibility of character assasination of ASR. If they show the new entry as a relative, acquintance old friend of Arnav or the entire track brainchild of Arnav, we get some drama without diluting ASR's essence.I just hope that creatives handle this properly.
I completely concur with you, there is no way that ASR would father a child. As I said in my short post in DC yesterday that with the abandonement, trust and daddy issues that Arnav has had in past, he would have been very careful with his romantic relationships to avoid the possibility of any unexpected surprises. Besides as you rightly pointed out, the ages don't add up.
I have a feeling that the conincidental trait are going to put a doubt in Khushi's mind and get her to react. It can serve many purposes-make her jealous, insecure and possesive, probably desire to start a family herself, shifts her focus from family to Arnav and try some more active communication with him, show maturity in dealing with Arnav's past in same way as he has done with hers.
It may also even the playing field between the couple because for once Khushi will be really off the mark and she will really end up hurting Arnav. Her guilt at misunderstanding Arnav will be very similar to what Arnav has over Shyam incident. I just hope that the results are not as disasterous as they were when Arnav misunderstood.

I could not watch today's episode tonight on my dish. I thought I would feel depressed if I do.
4 Lions ruined IPK for us with this huge transformation of ASR.btw I watched the soap , well some of it in my iPhone and in the last scene ASR and that new lady's eye lock was surely intense and it seemed as if two love birds are meeting after long . Disgusting concept and pukeworthy last scene for me.

Hey Madhu...gr8 post as always...

It was ASR we fell in love with...it was an ASR in love tht evolved into Arnav...but both ASR & Arnav were passionate, romantic, intense...now...there's nothing...itz like watching a mannequin replace a live person

I thot I'd signed up for a love story but these days getting both A&K in a scene together is a rarity forget RVz or a love story...ur words roommates was way polite...m sure roomies have more interactions than these 2...i didnt know tht marriage was a sure fire way of evaporating romance & ...if this was the case i wud hav pref them unmarried...

Getting a kid & his mom as a new track...i dont know where itz going...as long as it brings in some genuine fun...some non cringe worthy laughs...some jealousy...some intensity between the lead pairs...m all for it...but if goes the kekta way & brings in MUz & tears & dramaz...then m thru...m def not int in watching a kekta show advertized as 4lionz...

My personal gripe with the CVs after yest epi...thy made fun of the whole kidnapping issue...didnt thy use tht track to bring out the trust between A&K & cement their love...but yest thy just made a mockery out of it all...

The ASR we all fell in love with has been lost along the way somewhere...can he pls stand up & claim us all...because without him therz no IPK...& I resent the CVz for showing his caricature these days...

Madhu, Please take a bow. You deserve it. A fantastic and beautifully articulated take on the slow melting down of the barriers erected around the heart of Arnav Singh Raizada – painstakingly erected by him as a young teenager to protect himself from further hurt and emotional entanglements. You brought out the nuances and character growth of this very complicated and complex man and his evolution as the story progressed so very wonderfully - it felt like a beautiful trip down memory lane as I read your take on the story so far.
I understand your frustration with the story and ASR post re-marriage - the phase you call devolution of ASR. If I may make a little observation here about the story and the show. It would be a crime to allow fans of the show like you who are able to appreciate the nuances, layers and maturity of the characters and the story to be turned off the show or characters without at least making an attempt 😊

The story is an intense love story between two very flawed and complex and to a great extent damaged individuals. So the writers, to prevent overwhelming the audience with too much darkness, try to lighten the telling of it with touches of comedy - when they get it right, its beautifully subtle and when they don't, its completely OTT. Like any telly show that airs 5 days a week, they have good days and bad - as long as they keep the bad to a minimum and the good mostly to great, we, the audience are satisfied and ready to come back for more. I also notice that every now and then, they conclude a phase to the story – a way to let the audience know that there are good times ahead even when it seems almost impossible with darkness and negativity in the story. The show has always provided these mini culmination points - a placeholder to come back to if one is inclined to walk away. During the dark days of the kidnapping that never seemed to end, I'd thought I could easily walk away and accept holi as the culmination of their love story.. The re-marriage was another culmination point.

Once they culminate a phase, they struggle to hold on to the essence of the characters and the meandering plots of the story. I believe they do have a story but they cannot seem to glide into it with any sort of finesse. We are constantly whacked on the head with random snippets of conversations, events and scenes that transition very unevenly into yet more of the same – it all seems patchy and disjointed. The same happened post holi – if I look at those episodes now, they're not bad at all but at that point, I could not get the point of what they were trying to convey. I guess what I'm trying to say in a long winded way, is to not give up yet - give them a little time to hit their stride and get it right. 😊

I wrote a lengthy take on DC on why ASR cannot be the boy's father – not unless they want to completely destroy the basic characterization of ASR that they've spent a year and a half carefully building. The introduction of the boy and his mother could be a way to re-introduce the past into the story again – something that I felt had a lot of potential. ASR has said that he is ready to let go off the past but has he made his peace with it… He might be ready to let go of the past but is the past ready to let go of him…

I hope my words in some way make you feel better about the current state of the show and ASR, the character, and that you continue to watch and write your takes – for so many people that read you, our enjoyment of the show is taken to another level with your posts.

ASR is definitely softer in his approach with Khushi and to some extent his family post re-marriage. I felt that he had a sense of almost desperation in his quest to get Khushi to himself during the rasms - a premonition if you will that the kind of happiness headed his way would be snatched away from him like every other bit of happiness in the past - a form of the intense abandonment issue at play. Once Khushi was his, in his home and sharing his room, he seems content to let her set the pace. There is now all the time in world to smell the roses and enjoy his new found happiness - a quiet contentment that he had never envisioned before. There is a sense of wonder when he looks at Khushi sometimes - almost as if he cannot believe what he managed to find especially considering his treatment of her in the past. His essential generosity and the intense emotion he is capable of feeling towards his loved ones has come to the fore. He is also ready to give in more to Khushi since his ego plays no part in his equation with her anymore and also because he acknowledges to himself that he is not good with relationships having never had one where his emotions were engaged - I feel he is wrong on this point but that is his perception. Not all is lost yet, the writers, the characters and the story are all trying to find their way and the right balance after a huge culmination to the saga if I may call it that.

Great post as always Madhu ... incredible depth in ur analysis of the character ASR ...

i have been a 4 lions show follower for a while now ... b4 IPK was hooked onto .. Geet which played out in Star one ... a similar characterisation of the hero .. an angry young man scarred by his past ... which coloured his present .. in Geet it was past ditched love .. & in this it was ASR's fathers actions which scarred him ..
to me .. when IPK started .. i felt .. that all the mistakes made in Geet wud rectified here .. the story IPK had a STRONG VILLAIN .. a must for a Love story .. the premise was very strong .. "mohabbat door jaane na de nafrat paas aane na de" ... the scale .. the scope .. the channel .. all added to the excitement & promise of a wonderful ride ..

Must say .. till date was never .. disappointed with the "story line" of IPK ... execution & screenplay have been the biggest banes of IPK existence ... the fact that a creative shop like 4 lions .. cant manage to get a decent director .. who can anchor their serial .. keeps me baffled ...

To me the 2 biggest mistakes of Geet were the ... making the villain positive .. & the "massacre" of the character called Maan Singh Khurana ... while in IPK .. i am glad that the villain is truly heinous .. truly bad .. & beyond redemption ( this gives me hope for future & current track .. u know my theory on the current track) ... the "devolution" hint of Arnav Singh Raizada character .. left me with a sense of premonition of doom ... the whole jalebi making scene .. is a straight lift from GEET .. where Maan to manofy Geet makes her an omelette ... the moment is saw the scene .. i was jolted back .. the ONE THING I NEVER WANTED TO SEE IN IPK WAS A PUPPY LOVER ASR ... to me the basis of this love story is "farak padta hai" .. a challenge .. to dilute that challenge is to suck the juice of the story ...

Now the above to me was an execution error .. what we are seeing as devolution of the character called ASR .. is basically .. a misinterpretation of the DIRECTOR .. of the simply fine scene penned by the writer ... yesterdays episode ( the car chase the kidnapping) .. were all huge direction errors ... trimming .. & making it slick wud've gone a huge way to pacify the audience ...

It sickens & saddens me .. that Star Plus .. & 4 lions are unable to find a GUD director who cud run the show .. can take a bet .. neither .. Lalit nor arshad were on the set when this car chase was being shot .. arshad excels in action scenes .. & this was shoddy .. OTT crap ... the car chase was so amateurishly shot .. that one wanted to just smack the TV . for want of the right head to smash .. the whole asr escape scene which was shot by arshad .. was one of the best action sequences ever shot on TV .. Lalit ..excels in drama .. he has a very gud interpretation of the written word .. hence it wud stump me to believe he actually shot this incredibly crappy scene ..

The biggest problem of IPK .. the blooper to beat all bloopers .. has always been the use of body doubles .. which today .. even a 2 year old kid can point on the screen ...
Now i think that problem has trickled down to the director as well ... TODAY .. what we are getting .. ARE SCENES SHOT BY THE BODY DOUBLE OF THE ERSTWHILE DIRECTORS OF THIS SHOW .. ...

surprises me .. how technicians like .. hrishsikesh gandhi ... lalit mohan .. arshad khan .. are ready to let the channel & PH use their name ..when the finished product is SO BAD ...

U have anyways quoted what i thot of ASR .. & what my take on his characterisation .. his "evolution " has been in ur post .. to me .. ASR .. Arnav .. are all one .. he was in existence from day 1 .. u cud c that in his interaction with his Di .. but .. today .. Khushi has come into this circle .. the day he slapped Shyam .. & said this is for Khushi .. was the day he lifted her & put her on that pedestal .. a pedestal .. where his love is unconditional .. now in his unconditional love .. does the essence of the man need to change .. ?? i wud've loved the jalebi scene to come out of a real fight .. a real reason for ASR to repent .. teh way the scene was executed .. made KHUSHI wrong ... she was wrong ... he asked her not to make a "hue & cry " of his bday .. he did not ask her NOT to WISH him on his bday .. his grouse was just that ... why did u NOT WISH ME .. ?? now .. can u see the mistake in the direction of this shot .. when a scene is not .. executed well it looses its meaning & essence .. the dialogues .. & execution from thursday have been so off .. its scary ...

i am hoping against hope this is just an aberration ... & the PH & star .. step in "together" to clean up the mess .. & get some .. decent guy to anchor this ship ..
