THEY will do Cha Cha Cha, Jive, Salsa, Samba, Rumba and Waltz with an equal dosage of Bollywood jhatkas. Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa—Dancing with the Stars, a unique reality-based dance show, that goes on air from September 7 on Sony TV at 10 pm, brings together celebrities from different walks of life such as sports, films, fashion and music to perform with professional dance partners on a highly competitive stage. And, choreographer Sandip Soparrkar, a Pune lad, has been appointed as the programme's technical director. So, you have Rati Agnihotri, Pooja Bedi, Mona Singh, Sweta Salve, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sanjeev Kapoor, Ajay Jadeja and Akashdeep Sehgal getting judged for their dance moves by a panel comprising dance queen Farah Khan, film-maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the sensuous Shilpa Shetty. The celebrities will be paired with their respective choreographer to showcase their act. |
"We picked eight choregraphers after several rounds of auditions. I will be teaching them Latin American and ballroom dances. They can further use these inputs and their creativity to choreograph the dance sequence with their celeb partners," explains Soparrkar, who will also explain the technicalities of Latin American dances to the judges, as well.
But why a dance mix here? "All kinds of audiences should be able to relate to the show and enjoy it. That's why we've included Bollywood and semi-classical dances," says Soparrkar, who will also be directly training the participants. "These celebs have been training for four hours on an average daily, since the past month-and-a-half and they are truly hard-working and dedicated," he says. So don't forget to tune in!
