Fizzling out pesticides?

'Colas contain pesticides' Colas don't contain pesticides.'
We keep coming across such contradictory reports which leave us indecisive. Everyday a new report adds fizz to this controversy. A recent report says that the pesticide industry has objected CSE's (Center for Science and Environment) claim that the pesticides residues are harmful. The former insists that it is unlikely that one finds harmful levels of pesticide residue in soft drinks. Pesticides get harmful only after they cross a particular level.

Riya V Anandwala quizzes some of our telly stars and gets their opinion on this issue.

I hardly drink soft drinks. If you go to see, we have an array of mixed reports. Sometimes the trustworthy bodies say that they don't contain pesticides, and sometimes it is the other way round. Whom are we suppose to believe? We have a tendency to overlook such reports and continue with our habit. But since I am not too much into it, it doesn't really bother me!

I have cut down on my intake of soft drinks as it is extremely harmful. Coming to these reports, they don't really make a difference. People have been drinking aerated drinks since 20 to 30 years; suddenly there is a hype of pesticides now. One can't stop drinking, as it is more or less a habit now.

Time and again reports have said that soft drinks should be banned and are not good for health. About 15 years back the industry had problems with every new cola that had hit the market. There are reasons why they add pesticides to these drinks. According to me, the only solution is to go by one's gut feeling. Everyone knows that cigarettes are bad for health and may lead to cancer, but still people smoke! But, as far as I am concerned I must confess that I've stopped consuming soft colas.

I am not too much into aerated drinks, I prefer fruit juices. Everyone knows that these drinks are not good for health, but still people drink them. Personally, after reading such reports I will stop drinking these drinks.

I have been drinking aerated drinks since years, and it's next to impossible to give it up completely. Earlier I used to heavily into soft drinks but now I have cut down drastically. But then not because of pesticides but to lose weight. Even if the newspapers say that the pesticides cause something as dreadful as cancer, I will continue to drink colas, because I am an addict!
