Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan together at the top, Shahrukh Khan and Rani follow !
Salman Khanand Aishwarya Rai are together at the top of their groups as they move ahead to the knockout rounds of the Most Popular Bollywood Star 2006 contest. Salman was the actor with the most nominations closely followed by Shahrukh Khanwhile Aishwarya Rai head the actress list followed by Rani Mukherjee.
The nomination round of the contest ended with the top eight actors and top eight actresses moving to the knockout of the contest. The results were somewhat expected with little bit of surprise here and there. Amitabh Bachchan somehow made to the top 8, position 8th and has to meet the top seed actor Salman Khan in the knockout round. The young generation who usually vote in such contests tend to like younger stars like Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan (40 is still young in Bollywood !). But that did not stop Kajol who after a Faana-tastic comeback to Bollywood was 3rd most nominated actress. Abhishek Bachchan with his new found popularity was the 3rd most nominated actor preventing the top 3 Khans of Bollywood ruling the contest.

The knockout has already started where every week Bollywood stars meet head to head. Interesting Miss Universe Sushmita Sen (8th most nominated actress) meets her rival Aishwarya Rai. The talented Rani Mukherjee meets the hot Bipasha Basu . Kajol takes on Priyanka Chopra and Preity Zinta and Kareena Kapoor fight it out. Among the actors, Salman meets the BigB, Shahrukh Khan takes on John Abhraham , Abhishek has it easy with Shahid Kapoor as his opponent while Aamir Khan has a tough round with Hrithik Roshan.

The ranking from the nomination will play a big role in deciding who plays whom in the coming rounds too. The top 2 actors will be playing against the top 2 actresses. So Salman Khan winning the mens nomination just avoided meeting Aishwarya Rai in the earlier rounds and the two (if they qualify) will meet only at the mega Finals !! But that is a long way to go with the voting trend changing every week, no star is safe. Last time winner Aishwarya should have an easy one till she meets the guys in the mega semi finals (possibly Shahrukh Khan ).
