Chapter 8:

Recap: Swayam calls.

Sharon was still not asleep. Suddenly her phone rang. She took her phone from the bedside table to see who was calling her at this time. It was an unknown number. She picked it up. "Hello?" she answered. "Sharon?" the called said. Sharon was shocked. Was she dreaming or something? She had tears in her eyes, ready to fall out and roll down her cheeks any moment. With a trembling voice, she managed to reply. "Swayam??" But he didn't reply. She knew it was him. She could recognize that voice anywhere. "Swayam, I know it's you. Please answer. Please. Please!!" Sharon said, tears flowing. "Shar….I…" Swayam began, but Sharon asked him so many questions. "Swayam! How are you? Where are you? I want to meet you. Please….just talk to me. I need you..." Sharon cried into the phone. "Sharon….I'm okay. How are you? I hope you're doing good. Because I never want you to be upset. Please stop crying. For me.Please? And please don't ask where I live. And I can't meet you now. Because if I did, it'll be too hard to let go of you again." Swayam said. "Then stay with me. Don't let go." Sharon said. "I….Bye Sharon. I'll talk to you later." Swayam said, and hung up. "Wait…Sway…don't hang up. Please I need to talk to you…" she said, but Swayam had already hung up. Sharon dialed the number again but he wouldn't answer. She sent texts but he wouldn't reply. She threw the phone down with so much force, but luckily it didn't break. She pulled the blanket over herself and cried herself to sleep. First, she couldn't believe that he had called. And then he had hung up like she meant nothing to him. Why is he doing this?

Swayam wasn't surprised that she found out that it was him who called. He wanted to talk to her, but he didn't know how she would react. He knew that she would ask where he lived and if he revealed that, then it would be so hard for him because he loved her so much. He wanted to see her, hold her hand, hug her and what not. And he could never see her cry. He thought that he would never let a tear fall out of his girl's eyes but unfortunately, it was because of him that she cried all the time. He would never forgive himself for that. But he had to break up with her. He was thinking about all this that he forgot that it was his birthday. But who cared? The fun he had on his birthday was there only when Sharon was there. No other girl could ever take Sharon's place in his heart. Not now. Not ever.

The alarm rang at 6:30 waking Sharon up. She was in no mood to go anywhere. She even thought of not going to work that day. But she had no choice. She had so much to do for Fashion Week and if she didn't go to work, then all the hard work she did would go down the drains. After her daily routine, she went to her office but her mind was wandering back to last night when Swayam had called her. Why can't he just talk to her? Didn't he know how hurt she was? Her phone rang. It was Kria. "Hey, Kria." Sharon said. "Hey Sharu! How's work?" Kria asked. "Why are you asking me how work is? I know you want to ask me something else. Just come straight to the point." Sharon said. "Fine…I don't know how to ask you this but…" Kria started, but Sharon understood. "It's about Swayam, isn't it?" Sharon asked. Kria was surprised. How did she know? "Um…Yea..How did you know?" Kria asked. "Kria, I've known you for years and after mine and Swayam's breakup, you always hesitate to talk about Swayam! What is it about him?" Sharon asked. "Well…Since it is his birthday today, Rey and I are planning to go meet him. So we thought you might want to come with us??" Kria said. Sharon badly wanted to meet him but he hung up on her last night. And what the hell is Kria saying? They know where Swayam stays? And they didn't tell her! "Kria….why didn't you tell me you knew where Swayam stayed?" Kria asked. "Well….I didn't want you to get hurt again. But today is his birthday. Don't you wanna see him and wish him?" Kria asked. "Kria, I'm not coming….I don't feel well. When you see Swayam, tell him that I'll never try to contact him again. And tell him not to call me if he wants to hang up. Tell him that I am very hurt because he hung up last night. I've gotta go. Bye." Sharon said, and hung up the phone immediately because she couldn't talk anything more. You have to move on Sharon…..NO!! I can't. Swayam is my first and last love. I can't look at anyone else that way. Sharon remembered how difficult it was after that day when he said he didn't look at her more than a friend. She had promised herself not to talk to him. And she had managed that too. Till the field trip.

It was a gloomy Monday. Kria and Sharon went and waited in the usual meeting place. Sharon refused to come but Kria dragged her saying that she wanted to see Rey. "Kria, please. You go. I can see my brother whenever I want." Sharon said. "You'd want to see Swayam no? Then come on!" Kria said, pulling her hand. "Um..no I don't want to see him neither do I want to talk to him." Sharon said. "Am I talking to Sharon Singhania? OMG!! Sharon doesn't want to see Swayam!! SHARON!!! What's wrong?" Kria asked. "Nothing.." Sharon said. "Don't lie. Just tell me." Kria said. Sharon narrated the whole incident when she was leaving Swayam's house and everything. Kria hugged Sharon. "I told you to stay away from him. But you didn't listen. Now look what happened." Kria said. "I'm fine. Totally fine. Guess I hoped for too much." Sharon said. Sharon went with Kria anyway. They saw the guys coming. Kria ran to Rey and hugged him. He hugged her back. "Good morning beautiful!" Rey said. "Good morning handsome!" Kria said. They started their usual lovey-dovey talk and Sharon cleared her throat to stop Rey and Kria. Rey and Kria suddenly noticed that there were other people around. "Siss!!!" Rey said, and hugged Sharon. "Brother. We were at home the whole day yesterday. You never show so much love at home!" Sharon teased. In real he did. Sharon loved Rey. She always told people that he was the best brother anyone could ever get but she denied it when he was somewhere near. "Shariee!!!!" Rey said. "Hey Kria! Hey Sharon!" Swayam said. "Hey!" Kria said, but Sharon didn't say anything. She just looked away. Swayam was surprised. Sharon always said Hi before anyone else did. Today she seemed quiet. "Sharon!! Hey!" Swayam said. Sharon muttered a 'hey' but without looking at him. Rey saw some change in Sharon and asked Kria what the matter was. Kria gave a 'I'll tell you later' look. Rey nodded. He hated it when his sister was upset. And he knew that she was upset. She wasn't the usual cheerful Sharon that day. "I better leave. I'll be late for class." Sharon said, waved to Rey and Kria and left. She didn't wave to Swayam. "Did I really upset her this much that she doesn't want to talk to me at all?" Swayam thought.

The classes went on. Boring, dragging. Finally lunch arrived. Kria came running to Sharon. "SHAR!! Did you see the notice? We're going on a field trip this weekend. OMG! I'm so excited. This is gonna be so much fun!" Kria said. "Really??? OMG! That's awesome news!!!!! OMG! OMG! OMG!!" Sharon squealed in excitement. Then the guys came and joined them and all the four were super excited for the field trip. They ate their lunch and went back to their respective classes.

During French, Sharon sat alone behind. Rey was sitting with Kria and Swayam had an empty seat beside him. But she didn't sit with Swayam. She found an empty seat behind and went and sat there. Swayam was shocked. She didn't even smile at him. He turned back to look at her but she was busy writing something in her notebook. He didn't like it. He didn't like it when she didn't talk to him. He enjoyed her company! What was happening to him? He shouldn't be affected by a girl. But he could not be without talking to her. He wanted to talk to her right then. Okay wait! Did that mean he liked her more than a friend? No way, that's not possible. They were just good friends. Was that really the truth?

Sharon was doing her homework at night when her phone rang. It was Swayam. She cut the call. He texted her asking her to talk to him but she didn't reply. She was very upset, if he didn't get that. Kria had told her that they could go home on Thursday right after school so that they could get a permission letter from their parents regarding the field trip. Sharon didn't talk to Swayam for the next two days, she avoided him as much as she can. **

Swayam was going mad because Sharon was not talking to him. So he decided to confront her. He definitely felt something for her. Like more than a best friend feeling.He knew that she would go to the library in sometime so he hid somewhere near the library. He heard her voice. He peeped out and saw her. "Okay bye Riley! I'll see you on Saturday." Sharon said, and tried to go into the library. But before she could, Swayam pulled her into the room in which he was hiding. She closed her eyes and made an attempt to scream but Swayam placed a hand over her mouth. "Sharon…it's only me. Don't scream please!" Swayam said. Hearing this voice, Sharon opened her eyes. "What do you want Swayam?" Sharon asked. "I wanna know why you're avoiding me. Why aren't you talking to me?" Swayam asked. "There is nothing left to talk okay?" Sharon said. "There is so much to talk Sharon!! You haven't talked to me ever since I told you that I didn't like you more than a friend." Swayam said. "Yea, so?" Sharon asked, having no idea what she was saying. "SO???? SHARON!!! Just because I told you that, doesn't mean you stop talking to me alright! I never said I hated talking to you." Swayam said. Sharon looked into his eyes. "It might be easy for you, but it's hard pretending that you mean nothing more than a friend to me. You won't get that, will you? Let me go Swayam, I have to go to the library. I told the librarian that I'll help her arrange the books. Please let me go!Please!" Sharon said. "No Sharon! You're not leaving until…" Swayam started, but Sharon cut him off. "Please Swayam. If you ever thought of me as your good friend, leave me. I need to go." Sharon said. Swayam had no other choice but to let her go into the library. He hated himself for telling her what he said the other day. He wanted to tell her that he liked her too. But she didn't even give him a chance.

Next day ,they went home after school. Sharon and Rey's dad had gone out of town. At home, Rey told his mother about the field trip. "Ofcourse you can go Rey!" his mother said. Rey hugged his mother. "YES!!! I'm gonna go pack!" Sharon said. "Wait girly! You're not going for the field trip." Sharon's mother said. "WHAT????? WHY???" Sharon asked. "You're not going. That's it. You won't enjoy that much like the guys do." Her mother said. This irritated Sharon very much. "MOM!! WHAT?? DO YOU THINK GIRLS DON'T HAVE FUN??? KRIA's COMING TOO! WE're gonna have so much fun!" Sharon said. "No Sharon. You're not going." Her mother said. "That is final." Sharon was very angry. "YOU ALWAYS DO THIS MOM! EVERY SINGLE TIME!! YOU ALWAYS LET REY DO ANYTHING!! YOU ACT AS IF I'M SOME STRANGER. YOU ACT LIKE I'm NOT YOUR DAUGHTER. YOU ALWAYS GIVE IMPORTANCE TO REY!! HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT HOW I WOULD FEEL WHEN YOU DO THAT? HOW HURT I WOULD BE?" Sharon screamed, unable to control herself. "Sharon, talk properly to Mom." Rey said. "SHUT UP REY!!! YOU DON't GET HOW I FEEL BECAUSE YOU GET TO DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!! HAVE FUN! ENJOY!! I WILL JUST SIT AT HOME AND MOPE AROUND!" Sharon said, and ran to her room and slammed the door. Just then a call came from her dad. "Sharon, my princess? Are you home? So sorry, daddy couldn't come to pick you both up!" Sharon's dad said. "Daddy..!" Sharon said. "Princess? Are you crying? Don't cry. Please . Tell me what happened?" Sharon's dad said. "Daddy….There's going to be a field trip from our school and mom let Rey go but she isn't letting me go. It hurts so much." Sharon said, crying. "What?? I'll talk to your mom. My princess should have fun too. You'll definitely go okay?" her dad said. "Thankyou daddy. You're the best!" Sharon said. "Anything for my princess. Now stop crying. I'll talk to mom today night okay?" her dad said. "Okay Daddy. When are you coming back?" Sharon asked. "I'm coming back next week only honey!" her dad said. "Okay . Come soon..Missing you." Sharon said. "Missing you too honey. Take care. Bye." Her dad said. "Love you." Sharon said. "Love you too." Sharon's dad said and hung up.

Later, someone rang the doorbell. No one was home except Sharon and Rey so Sharon had to open the door. It was Swayam. Sharon didn't talk to him and walked away from him. "Hey! Aren't you gonna ask me to come in?" Swayam asked. "It's not like you're coming home for the first time. Just come." Sharon said. "You're coming for the field trip right?" Swayam asked. "It's gonna be so much fun!" Sharon turned to face him. "I'm not coming alright. Please don't talk about this to me. Go ask whatever you want about the field trip to my brother." Sharon said, and went to her room. Swayam went to Rey's room and asked him why Sharon's not coming. "Mom said no." Rey said. Rey also wanted Sharon to come. "Then why didn't you tell your mom to let her come for the trip?" Swayam asked. "Why are you bothering so much?" Rey asked. Anyway he had the plan of asking his Mom. "You're asking her permission for Sharon too alright?" Swayam said. "But.." Rey started, but Swayam didn't let him finish. "Just ask." Swayam said.

Swayam was just sitting and thinking about things when his doorbell rang. He opened it to find Kria and Rey standing there holding gifts and all. "Kria! Rey! Come in guys!" Swayam said. "Happy birthday dude!" Rey said. "Happy birthday Sway!" Kria said, and hugged him. "Thanks guys. It's been so long since I saw you guys! There was no need of gifts and all." Swayam said. "Yea, more than 2 years. How's life?" Kria asked. "Yea, it's going on. Sharon? She didn't come?" Swayam asked, looking outside to see if she came. She has the habit of giving surprises. He thought maybe she's hiding somewhere. Kria and Rey looked at each other. "No..she didn't come. But she told me to give you this." Kria said, and handed him a keychain. It had a photo of Swayam and Sharon on it and on the photo it was written "L-O-V-E". "She got this for your birthday two years back. Before you guys broke up." Rey said. "Why didn't she come see me?" Swayam asked. "Maybe because you hung up the call." Kria said. "I don't know Swayam. I think you should meet her and talk to her once. She's pretending to be happy but I know she's not." Kria said. "But I don't know how to face her." Swayam said. Will she really forgive me? Swayam held the keychain tightly. He should call her again maybe.
