For the first time, since the show began, I felt it had become regressive.
The episode where the ladies of the society decide they will never go out at night without their husbands because it's not safe gives the sitcom a whole new shade. What about the women who have to work night shifts to run their households?
from security guards to taxi driver to actresses models and call centre employees? The right approach should have been to talk about carrying pepper sprays, Swiss knives, a cell phone with emergency nos and other options (learning self defense techniques)
What if something like this had happened with them in broad daylight? would they stop functioning in their everyday lives without their husbands? basically, going out at night for work or to party with friends without men is not recommended?!!
Countless number of times women have been molested while they were with men. And on numerous occassions, single women have protected their honour.
From the 1st season of taarak, the ladies have been all about equality. Be it playing cricket, or breaking the dahi handi or asserting their point of view (getting their husbands to share the housework). They have taught cheating shop keepers lessons on their own (saree episode). Handled gundas and dangerous criminals (bhoot episode where daya went and faced the criminals). And thats why the sitcom worked so well because it was all about depicting a place without barriers of caste,creed,color or gender.
Now suddenly, the ladies can't travel alone at night without their husbands?
A lot of women in India don't have that kind of a luxury. What kind of message was this?
I am growing more and more disillusioned with this sitcom. A hard core fan once, was disappointed for the first time.
