Saahebaan, meherbaan, kadardaan, nadaan and all other daans!

Welcome to...well a post on IF where I shall list out my favourite authors/stories and tell you why.

Now before you go all "Yeh toh aaj kal ka fashion-wa hai", let me tell you (with a suitable collar up) that I had made a similar list a LONG time ago (maybe the first of its kind here or so I think) which was entitled - Thank You, FF writers of IPKKND - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/iss-pyaar-ko-kya-naam-doon/2938007/thank-you-ff-writers-of-ipkknd-linksadded

Now how is this different?

Well that focussed on my favourite Arnav's across different stories but this list shall focus on my favourite writers/stories from the Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? category.

So in the post below, you shall find some of my favourite writers/stories and why (as much as I can expound on it anyway) and the list shall be added to as and when I...errr add to it.

PS - Of course you can post about your own favourites and recommend stuff. :)

FAVOURITES
Authors and their respective works

HeadOverHeels (Anne)

Now what to say about Anne which hasnt already been said? She is the queen of writing here. Her characters, her story lines, her words, her style of writing, even the damn songs she uses - they all fit perfectly to form a wholesome W*F?! piece of fiction.

If you have read our work, if you havent I got two words for ya (for those two words, please refer to Triple H and Shawn Michaels as DX), then you know what I am talking about. Coming to the work I have read by her.

Mystic Skies

*Does a fangirl dance, swoons, faints, gets up, swoons some more, sighs, twirls, falls in love*

Yep, thats what Mystic Skies made of me. Sigh.

This is the first story by Anne that I started reading and I remember being COMPLETELY STUMPED and feeling as if I had just fallen in love. I remember sending her a long ass comment on the chapter where she talked about the Legend of the crow and I remember just thinking about it all day long, and even today I get goosebumps when I recollect that chapter.

This story is beautiful. This story is mesmerizing. This story is...well, it will make you fall in love, be happy and then be unbearably sad hoping for a miracle that will get these two star crossed lovers together and in the midst of all this you will grow up as a reader and maybe as a person too.

Even right now, just thinking about it has me get a lump in my throat...so I really dont know what else to say but you have to read it if you believe in love. And if you dont, it might just make you be
lieve in love. Yep, I am serious.

Forsaking All Others

Well, this one is on a hold but ladies and gentleman (no kids because it aint for anyone younger than 18) this one will make your jaw drop, eyes pop and go "W*F just happened?" and no, not in a "Eeeps, Arnav and Khushi are so cute" way AT ALL.

Its serious. Its dark. Its mature. And its damn interesting.

You dont know who to like (you cant really or at least I couldnt love anyone in this fiction so far) and who to detest or if there is anyone who can be pushed to one end of this spectrum at all. The characters are twisted or maybe the plot is twisted or maybe our sense of morality is twisted. Whatever it is, Anne plays with your head with this one and she plays with your sense of judgment making you question it all the time.

The tagline for this is - Virtues can be faked. Depravities are real.

And there couldnt have been better because as a reader you are left trying to grasp what really are virtues.

Hope she continued this one soon.

The Chains Series

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

^That aint me. Thats what I think Anne does every time she writes a chapter of the Chains Series - the note on which said that it will have no twists. Yeah, right.

This is a twist ka bhandaar. And its an epic.

Both together make for a nail-biting, falling off chair, mouth hanging open, cackling madly or crying in frustration read.

The characters - MERLIN! The characters! Be it Arnav f**king Raizada or Akash P(dont know what P stands for :p) Raizada or Aman or Khushi or Payal or Eva or Anumita or Arnav's father and Khushi's father(I refuse to take their names, so lets call them Asshole 1 and Asshole 2) or Sherry or Anjali or Richard or Shy (HAHAHAHAHA!) or...well, you get the gist, dont you? EACH f**kIN CHARACTER IS f**kIN IMPORTANT AND f**kIN ETCHED OUT SO WELL IT f**kIN HURTS!

The story has a life of its own and that you feel because of the sheer genius way Anne writes it - everything is all over the place but still so intricately woven together that nothing ever seems amiss and you are just left with your mouth hanging open when she posts how they connected. Its amazing and whatever I say will just fall short of how absolutely fantastic it is so I shall shut up with the last word of how it will make every reader a frickin psychoanalyst. Anne will vouch for my psychoanalysis. I have pakaoed her enough with it.

Link - Ask Anne. ;) :D
(Seriously. Dont post here asking for the link to the Chains series.)

minimuffin86 (Munchy)

Her muffiness is amazing (I just came up with this name and I shall use it because I like it. Bah). Her stories pan across different settings and different times but they tend to make a space for themselves in your heart.

I have read 3 of her works and I shall comment on each.

Pandora's Box

When I was new to IPKKND forum, I read a lot of people talking about Munchy's PB and I was like A. Who is Munchy? and B. What in the blue hell is PB?!

Got both the answers when she decided to post PB again and I read it from the start.

What an amazing rendition of love, pain, understanding and coming to terms with what was your mistake in life and learning to respect your own self if you wish to get that respect from others.

Its a story set around the partition of India where people turned into rabid dogs and their sense of morality went for a toss and its during this time that two people fall in an unlikely love or rather a relationship which you cant really define till the end.

The characters are real and they manage to earn respect from you by and by and your ire too. No one gets the moral high ground from the start, they all have to earn it and thats the beauty of this piece.

Link -
https://munchyspandorasbox.wordpress.com/

Genesis

Dont read this if you are not comfortable with certain home truths about a person's possible psychology and how that may be in different cases.

This is a sensitive portrayal of a man chased by the demons of his past, one who has always believed in running away but then he meets a girl for whom he wants to face and defeat the sores of his past and the journey to that is what is Genesis.

It has a deep ingraining in human psychology and its various facets and is unapologetic in its honesty about it. A beautiful story, definitely worth a read but as I said before, be prepared.

Link - https://munchysgenesis.wordpress.com/

Before The Last Sun Sets

This story affected me like few have. When I started reading this, I abhorred Arnav. DETESTED him. But lets just say by the end, I lamented him with a tear in my eye and just a wish that it wasnt true.

Cant say much about this except read it for its beauty of story, characters and a 36o degree kaya-palat of the readers. *Wipes a tear*

Link - https://beforethelastsunsets.wordpress.com/

Meera30 (Meera)

Meera is the one for whom I started with my whole *twirls* routine and why, you ask? Really, you gonna ask me that?! Have you not read her work?! (If the answer to that is 'No', save it...not interested in listening. Bah. :p). Everybody lies, Meera, but me about you - never! ;) :D

Her index -
https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/iss-pyaar-ko-kya-naam-doon/2894326/musings-of-a-muddled-mind-index-edited-note-pg27-jan-22-2016

(Her OS' are excellent too! Specially the one which has Arnav + bike + Khushi = fainted Rae aka moi. :p)

Fates Intertwined

*Giggles, twirls, sighs*

This is a treat for every romantic out there! Only problem - you want a boyfriend like Arnav! LOL! Man, Meera, my future man is so gonna hate you because I now have added "Be like Arnav from FI" in my list of qualities required! ;) :D

This one, is ladies, quite simply THE thing to read when you are feeling down or up or irritated or completely in love because this is
squeal worthy romance.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/2924347/arhi-ff-a-fate-intertwined-th1-prologue-ch-1-16

Colours of the wind

Because Meera decided writing one swoon worthy Arnav wasnt enough, she wrote this and made me have heart eyes. Bah.

This is WHAT THE HELL SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED POST THE SHYAMU KA PARDA FAASH! GAH!

This portrays excellent characters who have brains along with hearts. Dont want to give away this story so just will say read it and then tell me why this shouldnt be sent to the CVs. Hmph.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/3001780/arhi-ff-colors-of-the-wind-th-2-ch-7g-p142

Careless Whispers

So the prologue of this one had all of us O.o and wondering DID MEERA WRITE THIS?! So yep, this is different from her usual takes. Like very different but its brilliant in its intricacies and of course the writing style is fabulous!

Now she is for some reason NOT acknowledging the fact that I predicted a major twist like 7 chapters before she divulged it but that shall not stop me (because I is so nice) from saying this is FANTASTIC and the setting is AU but she stays true to it cent percent and the detailing is amazing. Whats best about this is the fact that the guilt that the characters have is not just for themselves, its for others too and that is so beautiful and makes you like them better.

Link - Ask Meera for it.

mistyrains (Sona)

She is FANTASTIC and not just because she has me or rather my namesake as a character in one of her fics although that does make me like her a bit more...anyway, as I was saying Sona is fantastic. Why? Well, because the things that she writes tug at your heart and they make you smile and they make you cry and very often do both at the same time. Whats best about Sona is the range and the words she uses. She will increase your vocabulary by leaps and bounds and give you such a beautiful imagery that you will be left astounded.

Also I ABSOLUTELY love the banners she uses for her stories! They just are so beautiful and perfect.

Read her OS' for the sheer brilliance they are. They all make me want to bully her for more...and I succeeded in one so YAY!

Her index -
https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/iss-pyaar-ko-kya-naam-doon/3157079/mistyrains-index-savage-flowers-updated

Rules Of Attraction

A tale of heartwarming romance and heart wrenching pain where you are left hoping and wishing for Arnav and Khushi to be happy at the end but that doesnt mean you dont enjoy the journey. The story deals with a subject very serious and painful but with such sensitivity and love that it makes you tear up. This was the first work by Sona that I started reading and it remains one of the best works I have ever read. Its beautiful, its enchanting. Its an alternate universe but what a universe it is.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/2884772/rules-of-attraction-updated-part-21-pg-139

Cherished Wounds

Sona delves into history with this one as the backdrop to a beautiful but painful love story and merlin, how she does it! The words, the story, the setting...wah. No other word for it. It will make you sigh, thats a guarantee.

A beautiful backdrop of Kashmir, not yet a part of India (the instrument of accession not signed) with Arnav as an Indian Army Officer stationed there and Khushi an Army Doctor and how these two find themselves attracted to one another on a level much much much more than just physical. The bond is deep and the bond is beautiful.

Do read it.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/2946072/cherished-wounds-updated-ch-14-pg-140-22-06

Twist Of Fate

Sona's first full fledged FF with Arnav and Khushi like we know them, that is to say a take on ArHi years after the wedding fiasco but of course with her own special touch which is amazing like the rest of her work. I dont know how to describe this without taking away from its beauty and heart rendering pain with a love so sweet and so pure...so I will not say a word, except its amazing.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/3018261/twist-of-fate-chapter8-pg-118-27-07-new

Mirrored Hues

Me loves this story! Now for all who thought that Sona can only write serious stuff, read this and eat your hearts out! ;) :D

This is as fun as it gets and the internal monologues of the characters - HILARIOUS!

Plus it has this amazing character called 'Rae' (or as Arnav calls her 'Red' *SIGH*) and she is just AMAZING! LOL! ;) :D

Its ArHi in college and its ArHi polar opposites and its ArHi completely crazy and its readers going HAHAHAHAHAHA and its FUN and its ROMANTIC and it took me a very long time to get her to write this and I need to blackmail for updates but well me loves this so who cares! ;) :D

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/3076020/mirrored-hues-blog-link-pg-66

Pinkionly

Kya boloon ab?! Her 'Lets fall in love' will do just that - make you fall in love and have unrealistic expectations of your relationship! I am serious! ITS AMAZING and if you are a romantic, what are you waiting here for! GO READ! But But BUT, it aint just romance, Ladies and Gentleman, its mystery, its suspense, its like a Bollywood Blockbuster with all flavours intact! Read it to know what I am talking about!

It starts off with a heartwarming story of a couple, thrown together by fate, as they start this unexpected journey and learn to love each other and how and then face the world and HOW. AMAZING is too less for it.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/2787369/ipkknd-ff-lets-fall-in-love-note-page-149

-doe-eyes- (Nafisa)

Read 'Mohabat door jaane na de' ka koi bhi part to know why she is here.

Its everything I wanted to see in Arnav's redemption and Khushi's realization that she too is a human. Its amazing in the words she uses, the imagery she constructs and my comments on her FF will show that. I have all but quoted the entire chapters.

If you wish to read something written in an impeccable language with ideas that are beautiful and emotions that are true and a psychology that is amazing and basically writing that tugs at your heart with romance and pain alike - this is it.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/2787215/arhi-ff-mohabat-door-jaane-na-de-complete-1

Inked (Maya)

Ab inke baare mein kya kaha jaaye? Yeh woh hain jinki wajah se yeh poora first Res ke liye mera fight karna shuru hua tha. Many people used to come on IF early morning just to check if she had updated or not and now check her website each night for the same!

Maya's About Last Night (now -khushi-) is gdhsgdsghjs! That is gibberish for WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?! in the nicest way possible. The story, the writing style, the characters, the sisterhood! *Bows down*

She has created a niche of her own and given a collective identity to hundreds of readers - the sisterhood. The way she writes is seductive and addictive and will make you a fan and engross you in a story as if you are a part of it.

Her stress on strong female characters who are not just naughty or just sweet or just calm and serene but a mix of all things sugar and spice and her men! My my! *Fans self*

She is one of the BEST and if you havent read her work, you are missing out on epic-ness. She combines her supreme sense of design along with her amazing writing skills to give you a wholesome experience - complete with visual cues. Her website and her style boards bear testimony to that.

Link - https://mayahill.com/

the_rain

I am sure you have read 'His Gardening, Her Jalebi' and if you havent, what is wrong with you? HGHJ is just the most amazing portrayal of ArHi as we know them as a couple. The complexities of their characters, their love for each other, their relations with others and other characters too - its all amazing and its all like a movie which you have to have to HAVE TO read.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/1761815/arhi-ff-his-gardening-her-jalebi-1-parts-1-11

curledup (Aashifa)

Aashifa writes on a variety of subjects which are most of the times intermixed together to form a whole which will affect you in whatever way she decides to - be it making you swoon to making you shudder.

Her OS' are great! Specially Eid Ki Mehendi!

Her index - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/iss-pyaar-ko-kya-naam-doon/3125162/jaded-peacock-i-n-d-e-x-17-08

WICM

This is the story of a couple who may have gotten together because of others but their journey of love and trust and understanding is their own. An amazing read with beautifully etched out characters. Dont want to give much away but read this for a different take on some characters and of course a swoon worthy Arnav.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/2935712/ipkknd-ff-wicm-link-for-new-thread-page149

Voh Rishta

This started off as something light, an OS which I annoyed her to no end to make into a SS, but now what it has turned to...*Shudders*

Read this with an iron heart and with a sensitive one too. A love story across religion with a cruel face of reality most sensitively touched upon. Its beautiful and it will make you sigh and then just...phew.

Nothing much to say about this except it will shake you to the core.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/3108775/ss-voh-rishta-memories-page-53

Kalyani

I am reading 'Raizada and Sons' by her and have to say the mixing of politics and relationship and how they are both affected by the other is amazingly rendered. What I love about it is the growth in characters and the reason each has for doing what they are. The women are depicted as strong individuals and the political men are not painted with the same brush of being tainted. They have their own stories and it makes for a great read which will force you to think and assess and reassess.

Link - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/fan-fictions/3123240/raizada-and-sons-thread-1

masam

Reading 'If Only' by her and this one will make you question your sense of expected and accepted morality with characters whose pain will shake you and whose decisions will make you think and argue with yourself. A great read and written very well.

Link - Ask masam.

Part 2 below.

You can of course add your own list of favourites. Cheers.

FAVOURITES
Authors and their respective works

Arisai (Rafa)

She has written on a wide variety of subjects and themes - from pure fun to pure irony to pure thriller. I have not read all of her works and would like to say that whatever I have read has been fantastic and is the sorts that require your full attention.

Where 'Intoxicated' has a back drop of politics as dirty as it gets with strong complex characters which force out of you stronger reactions, 'Soulmates' tells us the possible story of Arnav and Khushi before they became ArHi as we know them. It has the quality of starting out light and breezy and then suddenly going dark and angst-ridden, making you understand why Arnav and Khushi may be the way they are as characters. An amazing read and an amazing character build up from the past to what we know them today as.

Tainted and The Svengali (I havent commented on the latter yet) are extremely dark and mature and I would suggest
an audience which can take things which are deeply serious to only read these because they can be disturbing in a very subtle or sometimes even obvious way. But they are not cheap or like that just for the thrill of it, rather far from it. They are a pleasure to read, like the rest of her work, because of the effort gone into writing it - from the title of the chapter to the quote used to the song used - its a beautiful whole.

Tainted I like specially because of its strong pull to human psychology and its amazing way of pulling the reader head along into a journey of mystery and suspense and amidst all that a blooming romance - one you cant understand at the first glance. It confuses you and the characters are brilliantly sketched and each chapter is ended with your heart thumping and you being stumped. A brilliant read.

Now for a complaint. I LOVE 'Not Quite Prince Charming' because compared to the rest, it is light and closer home to what we know ArHi as, in the sense of being related to the current story line, but Rafaji has not updated this one for a very long time! The way this is written, with all the references to fairy tales, is such a pleasure to read and I hope she continues it soon!

Whats best about Rafa is that she seems to read and reflect a lot and she makes use of that in her writing, making her audience more intelligent and aware and actually learn something or want to read some good literature too.

Her Index - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/iss-pyaar-ko-kya-naam-doon/2942361/arshi-index

Napstermonster (Navin)

I have read 'Perfection' and 'The Love Story on Page 3' and the OS 'Coming Home' and all are brilliant.

While
Perfection deals with an off his rockers Arnav who goes to the very deep dark end before finding the light and then grapples with the new found sense in his life, The Love Story on Page 3 is a funny in that wry smile way short fiction on Arnav and Khushi and how they come together, all thanks to an 'errant' reporter and his chatpata source!

What I love about Navin's writing is the detailing of each character and the fact that each character has a well defined role to play and a story to tell/narrate the current happenings in the story in their own way, most prevalent in Perfection. This is an amazing read if you wish to try something where even Manohar Mama has a role to play and that is a compliment I cant give to many writers.

Coming to the OS - Coming Home. Its a sweet, cute rendition of a much in love Arnav and Khushi with all their idiocrancies intact. An awww-worthy piece of writing.

Krani

Krani writes absolutely beautifully. Be it her FFs or her OS' (of which Perfume is my absolute favourite!) She has this flair in her writing and her ideas which make each of her work different from the next. Also, she has an amazing sense of humour which can be seen in her OS' like 'Iss show ko kya naam doon?' or the more recent 'Iss demands ko kya naam doon?"! But dont be fooled by the humour, because when she writes serious stuff, she means business like her OS - A Bad Deal.

Also, the one FF I am reading most properly - her adaptation of Parineeta - entitled, well, Parineeta is beautifully rendered and you can see how hard she is trying to make sure you dont think about the book or the movie or picture Shekhar-Lalita but actually see Arnav-Khushi as the classic Bengali couple with their idiocrancies of being ArHi intact. Its still just starting out so lets see how it goes.

nayika

Now Nayika is one of those writers who writes like these small fictions which are like chotta packet, bada dhamaal and at the same time these big FFs which are bada packet, aur bhi bada dhamaal if you know what I mean.

Her short fictions like 'Second Hand News' or '6 Din, Ladki in' are amazing and varied. While 6 Din, Ladki in is a light hearted romance, Second Hand News will hit you hard.

Her FFs are the same, where 30 Days was a fun and naughty ride, Its Not Right is a more serious but still fun in its own way journey of Arnav and Khushi as they learn to accept that they love each other.

Her Index - https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/iss-pyaar-ko-kya-naam-doon/1925852/nayikas-ff-index

More to be added as and when I add them. :p

But you are most welcome to list your own favourites and share your opinions. :)

Edit:

Eeps! Such an awesome post Rae. I still remember that post of your where you mentioned the brilliant writers of this forum. And yeah you were the first one to make a post like that.

You have almost covered all my favorite writers. I'd like to thank them for entertaining us with their amazing stories, you people deserve all the appreciation in the world. Though I'm not able to catch up on all the stories but still I try & read as much as I can.

Rae I'd like to add some more people to this list of yours-

Firstly there's this girl who writes brilliant stuff & I'm a fan of her work. She is popularly known as AngelTeen, please add her.

I also like Nayika's work, she writes really well & is one the most popular writers on IF

Risha_ipkknd writes awesome OSs & her FF Falling thrice is a treat to read.

shraddska is a brilliant writer too. Her FF's My prince Charming & Can you forget the past are brilliant.

You have mentioned all others. So that's it from my side!

Edit again:

I forgot to mention that I'm loving lazyleaves aka Zehra's work nowadays. She writes really well. Her OSs are short but they are meaningful & unique. And her recent SS 'Destroyed' was mindblowing!

I think before this day ends, I'm going to turn into a giggly fangirl, like the rest of you fangirls. 😆

Ohhh what are you all doing to me, dammit?

I need to start reading some of this stuff, now that it's posted. Thanks for the reviews... I've been neglecting my FF reading because I spend a lot of my free time refreshing the PS blog page.

Thank you... I love you Angel Pie!

Rae, I have to laud this effort, not because one of my works is included here but you are kind enough to collate stories for readers to read, I wish someone had done this when I came on the forum. You have included most of the stories I read and would like to add what you write should be a part of the above list as well.

I may be wrong here, but it would be best if I did seek permission from the writers I read before suggesting their work to be advertised and read, I'm sure they would not mind.

Once again thank you, it makes good work reach a wider audience.

Ah crap. I didnt ask for permission. But well...I didnt give out the links to the stories the writers have withheld links of...but still, I am sorry to all writers for not asking their permission, you included!

And about my writing being added...well, I cant add it to MY list of favourites, can I? Lol! Anyway, I am glad and humbled that you feel so. :)

And your work is amazing, Kalayani, and hence added here. And you're welcome about the collection of stories - you can see the link provided in the main post for more. :)

Sorry again for not seeking permission before including your work here.
