Part 3

"Bitiya, here are some flowers." HP said to Khushi. He had been walking around with a basket of flowers for the crowd to shower on Payal and Akash. Khushi stared at the flowers.

"Khushi, go ahead, take some flowers." Arnav said, with a naughty smirk on his face. Her hand was still tightly held in his. She glared at him and then looked at Hari Prakash, apologetically.

Khushi opened her mouth to say something, then suddenly her mouth closed and her eyes shot wide open as she realized that Arnav had released her hand. She quickly took some flowers from the basket and smiled at HP, ignoring Arnav. She started to move away, when Arnav put his arm around her waist and pulled her close; she crashed into his side. Khushi opened her eyes wide, gulped and looked around. No one had seen them; everyone was watching Akash and Payal.

Khushi's heart started pounding wildly in her chest, as she felt Arnav's hand on her bare waist and his warm breath against her face, as he whispered in her ear.

"Don't you dare leave my side, Khushi Kumari Gupta." Khushi stared at Arnav. His eyes had a naughty twinkle; his face had the flirtiest sexiest smirk ever! The anger in her eyes disappeared as they met his loving brown eyes.

"Wow! These rituals are so much fun!" NK's excited voice broke their trance. They looked at NK, as he continued. "So cool! But guys, why are you walking around the fire?"

"Nanhe, every ritual has a meaning." Nani said, smiling.

"That's right, Nanheji. Jijaji and Jiji are now taking the seven steps around the fire, making seven promises.". Khushi said, excited. Arnav quickly released his arm from around her, as everyone looked at them. "Do you know what these promises are?" NK shook his head.

"Khushi bitiya, why don't you explain as they take the phere?" Nani said, as Akash and Payal started to take the first loop around the fire.

Arnav watched Khushi, a smile on his face, his and her hair flying in the breeze, rabba ve in the background.

"The first phera. The groom promises to support his bride and she promises to provide him with food and take up the responsibilities of the house."

Arnav shook his head quickly, looking at his laptop. Khushi closed the laptop and sat on the table, a plate in her hand. She broke off a piece of puri and dipped it in the curry and brought it to his mouth. Arnav glared at her and started to open the laptop again. She raised her eyebrows, shook her head quickly and moved her hand with the food closer to his mouth, a stern expression on her face. He opened his mouth, still glaring at her. She fed him and a smile appeared on her face.

"The second phera. The couple promises to support each other and protect their families."

Khushi squeezed Arnav's hand and smiled at him. They looked at Nani, Mami and Anjali playing with a little girl. Arnav turned to look at Payal run her hand over her saree covering her pregnant belly and smile. Khushi followed Arnav's gaze and smiled. Akash put his arm around Payal; they smiled at each other.

"The third phera. The couple promises to be faithful to each other."

Arnav leaned against the wall, outside the door of a clothes store, watching two slim gorgeous girls drool over a poster of Barun Sobti. Khushi walked to him, called his name and gave him three huge shopping bags, but he didn't hear her. Khushi shook him and he turned to look at her. She followed his gaze and saw the two girls. She opened her mouth wide and looked at him. He looked at her confused. She made an annoyed face, threw the bags down and punched his chest. He chuckled and threw his arms around her and pulled her close in a tight hug.

"The fourth phera. The groom prays for a happy life and the bride promises to do her best to please her husband."

Arnav shook his head, angrily. Khushi touched her fingers to her ears and went up and down on her toes, with a cute pout on her face. A faint smile appeared on Arnav's face.

"The fifth phera. The groom and bride prays to be blessed with children."

Arnav put his arm around Khushi. She looked at him, smiling, her eyes filled with tears. She was wearing a hospital gown, sitting on a bed, holding a baby in her arms. He smiled, placed a kiss on her forehead and then looked at their baby girl. He caressed the baby's head; the baby yawned. Arnav smiled and leaned down to place a kiss on his daughter's forehead.

"The sixth phera. The couple prays for a long, blissful life together."

Khushi and Arnav waved, as they watched their daughter, dressed as a bride, waving at them from inside the car; the car pulled out of the driveway. Arnav put his arm around Khushi's waist, pulled her close and placed a kiss on her forehead. She closed her eyes and tears of happiness rolled down her cheeks.

"and the final phera. The couple prays for mutual understanding, loyalty, friendship and togetherness."

Arnav was fuming with anger, as he watched Khushi tease him. Khushi laughed as Arnav chased her around the bed. Finally he grabbed her wrist and pulled her close. She continued to laugh, until he pressed his lips against hers.

Arnav's thoughts were interrupted as NK asked. "And now for the kangalsatra, right.." Arnav turned to glare at NK. He looked back at Khushi as she giggled and said, "The mangalsutra, Nanheji". NK stuck out his tongue and touched his ear. "Ooops, sorry!"

"Yes, Nanheji. Next, Jijaji will tie the mangalsutra around Jiji's neck and drop sindoor on the parting along her forehead. These are signs of a married woman. Jijaji will tie three knots on the mangalsutra, implying her obedience to him, his family and to God. The sindoor on the wife's forehead expresses her desire for her husband's longevity."

Arnav smiled as he watched Khushi sleep, sindoor on her forehead, the mangalsutra lying against her neck. He moved closer and slowly pulled her against his chest. She snuggled closer, an annoyed expression on her face. She moved her head against his shoulder and threw her arm around his chest and placed her leg in between his. Finally her face relaxed and she slipped back into deep slumber. Arnav smiled and closed his eyes.

"Wow!" Arnav's thoughts were interrupted again by NK's voice. "I can't wait for my wedding."

"That reminds me bitwa," Arnav looked at Nani as she said, excited. "We found the perfect bride for you. We can ask for her hand in marriage for you as soon as Akash's wedding is over." Arnav raised his eyebrows.

"Who? Nani. Tell me, tell me." Everyone controlled their smile, seeing NK's excitement.

Nani started to say something, when suddenly they looked at Arnav, hearing him scream. "No. NK cannot get married."

Anjali controlled a smile and asked, nonchalantly, "Why, Chotte?"

"Because.. because he is younger than me. He can't get married until I am married." Khushi looked at Arnav confused.

"But, bhai, you let me get married." Akash asked. NK nodded his head, confused. Anjali and Nani tried to control their laughter.

"Yes, exactly. Why don't you wait till after Akash's wedding rituals are done, Nani. Why bring this up now? This is Akash's wedding day. We should celebrate that. Why talk about someone else's wedding today." Arnav rambled on.

"Ok, ok, Chotte." Anjali said, smiling after exchanging glances with Nani. "Come, let's go to the front door for griha pravesh ritual." Everyone nodded and started to walk towards the front door.

Khushi looked at Arnav. There was anger and frustration on his face. Arnav looked at her. She moved her head, asking him what was wrong. He remained quiet, he just stared at her with the same angry expression. Khushi looked at him, confused.

"Sanka devi." Khushi's thoughts were interrupted by Buaji's voice.

"Coming, Buaji." Khushi started moving towards the door, when suddenly she felt someone grab her hand. She looked down and then into Arnav's eyes. They looked determined. He pulled her towards the stairs. "Arnavji, where are we going?" She looked over her shoulder; everyone had walked towards the door. No one noticed as they climbed up the stairs and walked down the corridor to Arnav's bedroom.

Ok, I spent the whole day wondering how to make Arnav propose marriage .. I mean he wasn't thinking of marriage when he went to talk to Khushi that day.. that's why I added him thinking about their life together while Khushi explains the pheres.. I hope you liked it, and didn't think it was unlike his character.. I want to hear your thoughts on that.. He normally does think about her whenever someone talks about love!

and yes, Arnav will propose marriage.. well sort of.. in the next update.. I thought of adding the proposal in this update and then realized that it deserved a part of its own... that and the way the marriage proposal is laid out in front of the family.. all that is for the next part.. so get excited for a fun next part!! It's going to be super cute.. well at least I think so.. Yay! I'm excited..
