'Sexy Sam' on his National Award

After winning the National award for Mukul Anand's Agneeepath in 1990, Amitabh Bachchan clinched his second trophy for his performance Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black.
But Bachchan springs a surprise by revealing that he had actually won his first National award 37 years ago for his debut film Saat Hindustani (directed by K.A. Abbas).
"I won the National award for best newcomer then," says Bachchan. "I vividly remember the ceremony was held in Chennai, then Madras. It was a practice then to hold the National awards functions in different cities. Mr Karunanidhi was Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister then and he gave me the award."
Several years and awards later, another victory makes Bachchan extremely happy.
"I've had no official intimation about the honour. But if it's true I'm delighted. An award whether from a popular mandate or from the government is an endorsement of one's performance. Black is a film that I'm very proud of. We all are. I wish Rani and Sanjay (Bhansali) had also got the National awards
After his role as 'Sexy Sam' in Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna, Bachchan seems to have his plate full. He barely completes Ravi Chopra's Baabul before he goes into another film with Chopra to be directed by one of Chopra's associates. There are other new projects on the anvil including one for Rohan Sippy to be directed by Sujoy Ghosh.
But the film that excites AB is Ram Gopal Varma's Nishabd. In fact, he goes into Ramu's Sholay next in September. "I've no clue how he wants me to play Gabbar Singh. But it would be entirely his take." This will be followed by a sequel to Sarkar with Abhishek Bachchan with Ramu again. "This time there would be a lot more of Abhishek and a lot less of me, I'd think," says Bachchan.
